Enslaved To The Alphas-Chapter 254: Mira Stav
Mira wanted nothing more than to hide. After last night’s fright and the subsequent escape, she had been unable to sleep all night...
The result was that she had kept tossing and turning, replaying the moment she slipped into the shadows. It was only when she lay in bed for a long time, staring at the ceiling and thinking of everything that had happened, that she realized the disturbance she had heard in the alcove was probably the dark lords in their wolf forms. After all, she had seen those glittering golden eyes in the darkness...
And then, for the rest of the night, she had been left dreaming of those eyes, every time she drifted off, until finally morning came and she woke up exhausted.
In fact, she had been so distracted that she even overslept and so had not even been able to receive Aron’s message, further making her mood go sour.
She looked over at Shiqi, who had passed the message, and let out a long sigh. Usually, when Shiqi wanted something, she would not hesitate to shake Mira awake, even if Mira was sleeping like the dead.
But today, Shiqi had chosen to be considerate and quiet. Mira could only think of one reason for that sudden change-those visiting lords. Ever since their arrival, Master had given Shiqi strict instructions to maintain an obedient and virtuous image in front of them.
Not that Shiqi was not those things. She could be obedient when she wished, and she could be virtuous when necessary. But Mira knew her well. Shiqi was also stubborn as a mule and absolutely unwilling to let go of anything she decided she wanted.
If she believed something was important, she would insist until the other person agreed or gave up trying to resist.
This morning, as expected, Shiqi with her arm firmly entwined with Mira’s, was behaving as if she were the most docile girl in the world. Mira almost laughed at the thought. Shiqi, docile? Only if the skies cracked open.
It was probably the first time Shiqi had shown so much patience though. Whether it was coaxing her to come for breakfast or being patient while she freshened up, Shiqi was being not like Shiqi...
If Aron were to learn of this, he would definitely be pleased. He always said that with just a little more patience, Shiqi would become truly formidable. Mira used to think he was joking, but moments like this made her wonder if he actually meant it. Could Shiqi really be patient?
Mira rubbed her eyes tiredly again. If only Shiqi had shaken her awake as usual, she might not have missed her meeting with Aron. At least then she could have spoken to Aron about the wolf and the eyes from last night.
She opened her mouth to speak, planning to ask Shiqi if maybe-just maybe-she could try slipping out and checking whether Aron was still waiting near the lake. But before she could finish forming the thought, Shiqi’s fingers tightened sharply around her arm.
Mira winced, startled by the sudden grip, and looked down at the hand squeezing her. Then she glanced up at Shiqi’s face. Did Shiqi start reading minds or something? "Okay, okay! Shiqi, I already promised I will not run away and that I will meet the Lords today. Don’t crush my bones, okay?"
But Shiqi didn’t loosen her hold. In fact, her grip tightened just a little more as if really fearing that Mira would run away. However, her eyes were not on her. Instead they were fixed at a distance.
Mira looked up then, following her gaze, and then her eyes widened at the sight before her. There, standing with the sun behind them, were the three lords. And they were so handsome that her eyes hurt.
Mira gulped and for a moment, she forgot how to breathe.
And then before she understood what she was doing her feet began to move.
She took one step forward. Then another.
"Mira," Shiqi whispered tugging on her arm. "Slow down."
But Mira barely heard her. It felt as if she were floating toward them, drawn by something she could not name. Her eyes stayed fixed on the lords as though she were under a spell. Their gazes were equally locked on her, watching her approach with an intensity that made her skin tingle.
"Mira!" Shiqi hissed again, trying to pull her back this time.It was useless.
Mira’s legs seemed to no longer belong to her. Shiqi let go of her hand and smiled then. Satisfied. This is what she had wanted to see. The reaction was just as she had expected.
Neither the lords nor Mira could take their eyes off each other. It was as if the entire courtyard had shrunk until only the four of them remained.
Shiqi straightened her posture, smoothed her expression into something respectful, and stepped forward quickly, placing herself between them just long enough to fulfill her duty.
"My lords" Shiqi said with perfect politeness and even though they seemed to not be paying any attention to her, she made the introductions, "This is my sister, Mira Stav. Mira, these are our esteemed guests- Lord Lancelot, Lord Zai, and Lord Kalyn." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Mira blinked, finally tearing her eyes away for just a second to take in Shiqi’s words, though none of it properly registered. When she looked back, the three lords were smiling faintly at her, which made her only more confused over her reaction. Why was she feeling so odd?
Shiqi bowed lightly and stepped away then, without giving Mira a chance to even understand as she started to put distance between them, "If you will excuse me, I must assist the kitchen for a moment. Mira, please take your time and... show the lords around. I am sure they would appreciate the assistance to find the Morning room."
With that, Shiqi escaped from the corridor as if being chased by hounds. But the moment, she turned the corner, she paused and looked back and grinned, before closing her eyes and whispering something.
In the next moment, Mira gasped and her body tilted forward losing her balance.
