Chapter 308: A Fight

Emira scoffed at his words. Not because she found them outrageous. But because she knew he truly believed that. The Dark Lord loved no one. All these years, he had done what he needed to do to let Shiqi not turn against him.

That foolish woman, who had ruined and killed her mother after making her life a living hell, had lived a hundred plus years, being a fool. And now she had even died a fool.

But Emira felt no pity for her. All she felt was anger. And the feeling of being robbed. She wanted that woman to die at her hands!

Since the opportunity to kill her personally was already lost, Emira wasted no time in chatting to this man. Letting the anger burn through her, she flicked her wrist without warning, so that the whip cracked through the air, its long belt shooting toward the Dark Lord at deadly speed. She wanted him to die!

Even as she struck, however, she did not truly expect it to reach him. With Shiqi’s ’sacrifice’, he had clearly gained a shield, and the sight of it made her fingers tighten around the handle even as she watched the whip moving as if in slow motion.

Light rippled across Aron’s body when the whip landed, the impact strong enough to shake him where he stood, but instead of stripping his soul and turning him to ash as it had done to Dorothy Green, the divine thread struck against the glowing barrier and slid away before returning to her hand.

So that was it. He had wrapped himself in another’s life. Just like always.

Emira felt heat rise in her chest, and her eyes hardened further as she lifted the whip again. "You never change," she said coldly. "You hide behind others even now."

Aron’s smile only deepened, and the calm cruelty in his eyes made her blood boil. She struck again, and this time she used all her strength.

The whip cut through the air once again and slammed into his shield with a burst of light, sending sparks scattering across the ground. The barrier trembled under the force, its glow rippling unevenly, though it did not break.

Her jaw clenched and her eyes narrowed. A shield built from sacrifice was not true strength. It was only borrowed life and could be worn down.

She stepped forward and lashed again and again, each strike faster than the last, changing her angle with every movement so the barrier could not simply harden in one place.

With every impact, she felt the resistance through the whip, and with every blow, the shield seemed to react more slowly, as though it struggled to keep up with her attacks.

Two forces were holding the shield together, and one of them was already weaker.

Her eyes narrowed as she struck his side, and the glow there wavered for a brief moment before smoothing out again. That hesitation was enough to make her heart pound harder.

"So it can be worn down," she murmured.

But then, the man decided to attack back. Dark energy gathered in Aron’s palm, and the air around him grew heavy.

Emira moved again, snapping the whip toward his chest before he could release it. The shield rushed to meet the blow, thickening where she aimed, but even as it blocked her strike, its surface flickered as if strained.

Dark energy burst from Aron’s palm the next second. It did not move like fire or wind but like a living shadow, thick and heavy, tearing through the air toward her. The ground beneath it cracked as it passed, leaving black lines behind.

Emira’s body reacted before her thoughts did. She twisted to the side, the dark force grazing past her shoulder close enough that her skin burned from its heat. The impact behind her shattered stone, and fragments flew outward.

She cursed and even she could fell the burn on her shoulder, she snapped her wrist again cutting it low this time, aiming for his legs instead of his chest or hands. The shield reacted quickly, light flashing downward to block her strike.

The collision sent another shock through her arm, but she gritted her teeth and held firm.

Aron lifted his other hand. A second wave came, shooting straight towards her but she ducked, rolling across the ground. Dust clung to her clothes as she came up on one knee and lashed upward without hesitation. The whip struck high, grazing the upper edge of the shield where it had thinned The barrier flickered and Aron’s smile faltered for half a second.

He stepped forward now instead of standing still and Dark energy swirled around him like smoke, coiling at his feet and rising over his shoulders.

"Stubborn fool," he said quietly then thrust both hands forward.

The blast that followed was wider, harder to avoid. Emira jumped back, but the edge caught her side and threw her several steps away. Pain spread across her ribs, and she nearly lost the golden energy whip.

She forced herself upright before he could follow up. The whip snapped again. This time she aimed not at one point but dragged it across the shield’s surface, testing its strength. Light sparked and shuddered where it touched. The glow was no longer steady. It pulsed unevenly.

Aron attacked again. She dodged left, then right, never letting him predict her rhythm. Between each of his strikes, she found a gap to hit back.

Dark and light clashed over and over. The air grew heavy from the collision of their powers. The ground around them was torn and cracked. Dust and sparks filled the space between them.

For every attack he launched, she answered with one of her own. For every step he took forward, she forced him to block instead of advance. It became a battle of endurance.

Her breathing grew heavier, but she did not slow. His shield still held, but it was no longer smooth. Its surface wavered constantly now, struggling to respond to the speed of her strikes.

He raised both hands again, but this time the energy gathering around him was different. It condensed instead of spreading, pulling inward until it formed a dense sphere between his palms.

Emira felt the pressure of it even from a distance. If that attack landed, dodging might not be enough.

She tightened her grip on the whip and struck again, aiming for the same weakened point at his side. The shield blocked her, but it flickered violently.

He released the sphere. The dark mass shot toward her faster than anything before.
