Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 214: Shocked
Esme adjusted her veil, ’’I won’t do it again. Now, tell me,’’ her gaze shifted to a man and woman who were sitting on the chairs next to the representative of the light god.
The woman had donned a silver attire that highlighted her bronze skin. She was sitting there idly, twirling her hair with her fingers but Esme felt like she was seductive with her every move.
The man sitting next to her was wearing a mask that covered the half of his face but his silver hair stood out the most in the night court.
A captivating pair.
’’Who are they?" Esme asked, her voice growing a bit louder by mistake.
Before Luciana could say anything, the maid standing next to Esme lowered her body such that her mouth was next to her ear, ’’My Lady, she is the only Princess of the Serpent Clan, Rubelina. She goes by the name Ruby. And the man sitting next to her... is rumored to be a human from the mortal realm.’’
Both Esme and Luciana were intrigued by the woman’s words.
’’What is a human doing here in the heavenly realm?" Luciana asked the maid.
The woman twisted her thin waist, refusing to answer her question. It could not be any more obvious that people here deemed Luciana as the unimportant one after seeing the trident in Esme’s hands.
And very few people saw her appearance with Cardan the day before so they believed Esme was the woman who was with Cardan yesterday. Hence, more negligence towards Luciana.
Luciana sighed. To think that she would be treated like this after being revered in the mortal realm and the kingdoms she traveled to with her father.
Esme was speechless by that peculiar behavior too but as much as she wanted to say something to the maid, their identities were to stay hidden. If God Atlas discovered that she deceived him by claiming to be his son’s lover then she will die.
’’She asked you something,’’ Esme whispered.
The maid smiled at her politely, not bothering to hide her partial treatment, ’’The man sitting next to her goes by the name Adrian Reis...’’
Since Esme was focused on the maid’s words, she did not notice how Luciana’s expressions changed when she heard the name.
Luciana immediately turned to look at the masked man, trying to gauge his features.
’’While the Gods are forbidden from staying in the mortal realm for a long time, their descendants are not. Princess Ruby has been down there for quite some time and she brought this man to the heavenly realm around a year ago. It is said that she fell in love with him when she went there and she claimed him as hers after bringing him here. They are always seen together and he always hides his face with the mask,’’ the maid straightened up after she finished speaking.
’’Poor man,’’ Esme whispered to Luciana, ’’He was abducted by an immortal and he can’t even do anything about it.’’
Luciana’s expressions were weird as she thought, ’That’s your brother we are talking about. If our people in the Daven Castle did not see it wrong, then Adrian was injured by Cardan and you sent him here with this woman, begging her to save him.’
Luciana leaned back on the chair. The world was so small and confusing.
’’Oh, see that serpent wand in her hand. Is she a serpent?" Esme asked.
Luciana forced a smile on her face ’’The Princess of Serpents won’t be a mermaid, Es.’’
Esme sighed at the obvious mockery, ’’I am just not used to being in heaven.’’
’’I don’t come here to drink tea every day,’’ Luciana laughed as Esme rolled her eyes.
Esme was wearing a veil and it was unlikely for Adrian to notice her here amidst the sea of people so Luciana forced herself to not worry about it for now, ’’You see the man who is sitting next to them?"
Esme nodded. The man was wearing grey clothes.
’’He represents the witch clan. The Queen of this Dark Castle is the Witch Princess, Marilyn.’’
Esme’s brows rose, ’’Prince Cardan’s mother?"
’’Yes,’’ Luciana leaned closer to Esme as she continued speaking, ’’See. There is a red star drawn on the sleeve of his robe. That represents the witch clan.’’
While both the women were talking about their surroundings, Luciana did not notice a shadow looming over her head.
When she heard the whispers and murmurs filling the court, she tilted her head, only to find Cardan standing beside her. His arrival grabbed people’s attention. The members of the night court were also looking in their direction.
’’Having a good time?" Cardan asked.
Esme blinked when Luciana glared at the man, ’’Go away,’’ she adjusted her veil, ’’You are attracting everyone’s attention. Our lie will be caught. Don’t just stand here—’’
Her words were yet to finish when Cardan suddenly knelt in front of her on one knee, ’’What...’’
He extended his hand towards her, ’’You dropped your kerchief, Lucy,’’ he whispered.
Luciana glanced at the olive silk kerchief that matched her gown, ’’You didn’t have to send this gown for me. I don’t need your hospitality,’’ she whispered, taking the kerchief from his hand.
’’I don’t remember sending anything to you,’’ Cardan said, a hint of confusion in his eyes, ’’Regardless, would you like to have some tea with me this evening?"
Luciana quirked a brow, ’’Evenings and mornings are all the same here. Also, I don’t like tea.’’
’’Wine?"
’’Fine,’’ she gave in, fully aware that a Prince dropping to his knees was going to be the talk of the heaven in some time and the last thing she wanted to do was to fuel the fire.
Cardan flashed a playful smile at her as he pushed himself to his feet and walked away.
There were two empty throne chairs placed on either side of the King’s throne. Cardan took a seat on the left side.
While Esme was observing the place in wonderment, the announcement of the King’s arrival grabbed her attention.
She immediately adjusted her veil, her eyes instinctively shifting towards the entrance but the moment she saw the person who was stepping inside, confusion marred her face.
She was beyond bewildered when she saw the unfamiliar face.
She was shocked.
Because he was not the man... she met last night.
