Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 241: Tea, wine or poison
Rezeph reluctantly glanced at Esme’s face before he pressed his index finger on her forehead.
A comforting gust of air filled in the surroundings.
Aleister realized that the man used his magic to comfort her.
Rezeph pushed himself out of the bed.
Leo sat on the pillow near Esme’s head while rubbing his paw on her shoulder occasionally.
Luciana opened her mouth to speak, ’’I will take care of her...’’
Aleister cut Luciana off, ’’I am staying here.’’
Luciana glanced at the King who narrowed his eyes.
But in the end, the man sighed and glanced at Leo, ’’You. Stay here,’’ he coldly said.
Aleister glared at Leo.
The beast shrunk towards Esme instead of running away like he would have usually done.
Aleister spared him this time. It was not like he was going to do something to Esme.
All she had to do was wake up and he would let her hit him for teasing her like that.
Rezeph left.
Luciana glanced at the view in disbelief.
She expected the King to throw Aleister out but he just asked Leo to stay here.
On her way out, she could not help but wonder about it.
Leo. Leo was not an ordinary beast like they had assumed.
He was... a god too, wasn’t he? That’s how she remembered the guards in the dark castle addressing him. They dreaded his presence even though he was not in his majestic form.
And now that Luciana thought back to how Leo and the King interacted and got along, she could not help but think whether it was because of Esme or because the King knew more than he showed.
The thought of the latter being a possibility gave her goosebumps.
Luciana turned around to glance at the room. As she watched Aleister’s back, her thoughts drifted off to the same place they had gone to earlier this day in the sea court.
Esme had noticed it and Luciana knew an interrogation would have been hanging on her head if the woman was not unconscious.
But Luciana did not know how to tell Esme that... Looking at Aleister pestering her constantly made her think of the man who kept discreetly pestering her back in the heaven for tea or wine.
If she stopped lying to herself then she could tell Esme that when she saw Aleister this morning, the first thing she did was look around the courtroom for any signs of Cardan.
And it was so unlike her nature. She liked men like Aleister. Not men like his unreasonable, manipulative and scheming brother.
As Luciana stepped inside her room, she patted her face, ’’I am being silly. That Prince might have gone back to his whores and here I am thinking about—’’
’’About whether you will ever see me again or not?"
Luciana turned around so fast that she did not think she was capable of such movements without having her neck or bones broken.
Cardan was standing there, still as charming as she remembered him to be. The door behind him was half closed at some point and he was leaning back on it.
It was only her and him, alone in the huge room and Luciana felt like her breath was knocked out of her chest.
What? When? Her mind stuttered.
’’I wonder if you would offer me tea or wine here at your land,’’ the man mumbled, his gaze briefly dropping to her lips that reminded Luciana of something that she was trying so hard to forget.
’’I’d offer you poison,’’ Luciana hoped her words still cut him like they used to because she could hear her voice trembling, she could feel her face turning hot.
’’If you are the one offering, I’d take it,’’ Cardan smiled, a flirtation that reached his eyes.
Luciana looked at him as she took her bottom lips between her teeth.
The man straightened up, ’’If you really want me to leave, I will leave.’’
As he turned around, she grabbed his hand on instinct, ’’Why are you confusing me like this?"
’’Huh?" Cardan’s brows tugged together in confusion.
He turned around to look at her.
Luciana felt ashamed to admit that she was looking for him the moment she saw Aleister. It felt like a sin and a betrayal to her own conscience. She had decided to never trust the man when he cornered her to bring Esme to heaven.
But something had shifted between them that night.
Luciana remembered that they were talking that night, about this and that, mortal realm and heavenly realm, about everything. And then she did not even realize when she started talking about his mistresses. She asked him if he loved any of them. He never answered her questions.
And as impatient as she was getting, she asked him if he had a marriage arrangement too.
That got him going, ’Too?’ he had asked.
She told him that her father might marry her off to some Duke’s son but there was still some time in it because her brother was older than her so Lucian will be the first one to get married.
She had yet to finish her words when he caught her wrists and pulled her closer and before she realized, she felt the coldness of his lips lingering on hers as he whispered, ’No. other. man.’
As soon as his words dropped, he kissed her feverishly against the closest pillar, without letting her comprehend the meaning of his words.
People were walking around nearby. Anybody could have seen them yet Luciana did not know what possessed her because she found herself lifting her hands to his neck and kissing him back with the same urgency and same desperation.
The moment their lips parted, he pressed his forehead against hers, and as the realization of what they did start dawning on her, Luciana mumbled, ’Your Majesty.’
As soon as Cardan turned around to look for any signs of his father, not knowing it was a lie, she turned around and ran away.
