Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 247: Arrows of jealousy
Cardan did not have the decency or patience like Aleister so he unabashedly turned around and glanced at the woman who was laughing and giggling with a royal guard.
Luciana had donned a green gown. The kind of green that reminded him of the mysterious depth of forests, of her eyes. The exquisite gown covered more than half of her neck in beautiful lace and the sleeves were made of green crystals that dangled in half arcs around both her shoulders.
Her blonde hair was messily tied in a braid and it gave him the urge to trace those tresses, stroke them, and play with them.
He wanted to kill that guard who was seeing that up so close. The views he would prefer to keep to himself.
He wanted to kiss her hair. He wanted to kiss her face. He wanted to kiss—
Aleister clicked his tongue, ’’Pathetic,’’ the man mumbled.
As Cardan turned to look at his brother, he noticed that Esme was now alone. Jeremiah was gone and she was standing there, talking to some maid. She had yet to notice his presence.
Two maids were walking towards them with serving trays in their hands.
From the corner of his eyes, he spotted the guard with Luciana leaving too. She was walking towards Esme.
’’You look like you are up to no good,’’ Aleister raised a brow.
’’Being good is not going to get us our women,’’ Cardan moved his finger in a come hither motion towards the maids as he whispered to his dear elder brother, ’’So, we should be bad.’’
Both the women greeted them and arranged their trays on the table.
Cardan eyed his brother pointedly.
Aleister blinked.
This dense brother of his. Cardan sighed in exasperation, ’’If Eros played his cards right and shot his arrows straight, then we would not have fallen for women who give their attention to everyone but us,’’ he whispered, watching as Aleister’s eyes narrowed, ’’But now that we are here, my dear brother, I am going to teach you how you can snatch their attention by playing the cards right. By shooting the arrows of jealousy,’’ he winked.
Aleister’s lips thinned.
Cardan glanced at the maids who were standing straight, pretending to not hear them when they heard every word they uttered, "Are you twins?"
Aleister followed Cardan’s gaze and glanced at the two delicate women who looked just like each other.
"Yes,’’ both responded in unison.
’’Names?" Cardan straightened up on the swing.
’’Rory,’’ the slightly shorter one responded.
’’Rose,’’ the other said at the same time.
’’Rose, come to me,’’ Cardan tilted his chin, ’’Rory, sit beside my brother,’’ When he felt Aleister’s glare, he added with a clear of his throat, ’’On the chair next to him, not on him.’’
Rory and Rose both listened to his words without a hitch.
Aleister’s eyes turned into slits.
Cardan rolled his eyes, ’’If your woman doesn’t shove her tongue down your throat after seeing this then you have the wrong woman. You are going to adore me for this.’’
Aleister scoffed, ’’Or I will shove a sword into your throat.’’
’’How cruel,’’ Cardan clicked his tongue and glanced at the twins who were pretending to be two delicate flower vases. One sat on the chair beside Aleister’s while the other sat on his swing, ’’Are you both mermaids?"
’’Yes.’’
’’Tell us about your world but speak every word so intimately that anyone watching will believe it’s not the sea world we are talking about,’’ Cardan said with a flirtatious smirk on his face, ’’I have trunks filled with moonstones, pearls, gems and many things that you would adore and I have no use for it.’’
Both the mermaids who were in their human forms looked excited at the thought of it. For them, sparkling things were their biggest obsession.
That got Aleister’s attention, ’’What do you have them for?"
Cardan slyly shut his mouth. After all, he could not tell the man that he had them for Esme when he wanted to use her for revenge so that he could make her fall in love with him.
But he did not have to spell it out for Aleister to understand what was going on, ’’We are having a duel later,’’ the man said calmly.
Cardan’s face shrunk as he glanced at the woman sitting beside him, ’’Feed me grapes and talk about your world, Rose. Intimately,’’ he handed the flower rose in his hand to the woman before glancing at Rory, ’’Make tea for my brother and whisper in his ears.’’
The surroundings turned cold.
’’For your woman, brother,’’ Cardan winked.
Aleister relaxed into the chair, ’’She won’t pay attention.’’
’’Let us see,’’ Cardan’s gaze was quite provocative as he leaned closer to the woman sitting on the swing beside him, ’’How long have you been working here? And do you know Luciana Norwell, that beautiful woman who is walking past the pillars... don’t look there suddenly. Be discreet.’’
As platonic as his words were, his expressions were amorous.
Rose adapted well as she coyly lowered her head and nodded softly, ’’I have been here since I was born. We grew up around Lady Lucy....’’
Seeing that these women truly seemed to hold some knowledge about this place, Aleister tilted his head to the side and glanced at the woman who was sitting beside him.
’’My Lord,’’ Rory’s tone was calm and polite but her act made it look like lovers were conversing about their old secret.
Aleister’s lips twitched. He felt like everyone was adapting well to this pretense except for him.
It was not that he did not understand what Cardan was trying and he was not being unaccommodating. But he was afraid that the tables might turn up on them in the end.
He did not know Luciana that well but from their past interactions in Daven Castle, he could tell that she was an arrogant and headstrong woman.
Birds of a feather flock together because Esme was equally stubborn.
So, it was far-fetched to think that these women would spare them their attention in such circumstances instead of finding other men to provoke them even more.
