Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 274: A witch’s curse
Since there was a royal library in the castle, he told her that he will take her with him to see around.
What more, only the King could step into the royal library so to be there, Esme had to go with him.
And he had felt so victorious for being the King at that moment.
He finally found a way to coax her into calling him father but then his own people had to betray him.
He glared at the royal physician again, ’’You are not going to the human world for a year.’’
The old man was aggrieved. He still liked it there where he just flew around like a butterfly without needing to pretend to be noble.
While the King and his right-hand man stood outside the library and talked, Esme shifted her attention back to the books.
Her footsteps slowed down in front of a particular black book that had linings of a butterfly on top of it. And there were also carvings of stars in the corner.
Butterfly... she was familiar with such carvings. She had seen them on Aleister’s back.
Butterflies represented death.
Such stars represented the witch clan.
Witches.
She picked the book up and flipped it open to the first page.
’The curse of a witch would entrap you in itself for decades and lifetimes to come. Step back when she opens her mouth, close your eyes but even if the sky rained fire or the sea split, her words will still come true, her true resentment would rain on you...’
Those were the first few lines.
Esme licked her bottom lips, trying to suppress that tremble in her heart.
Decades and lifetimes? A witch’s curse was that powerful?
No... not an ordinary curse. From what was written, it was only a curse-filled with real resentment that had this effect. Yet still...
She glanced at the book dazedly before she closed it and put it back in its place, deciding to not horrify herself anymore.
A strong pair of hands wrapped around her waist and she was pulled back into a rigid chest.
’’Ahh...’’ Esme shrieked on instinct but her voice was muffled when a palm pressed itself on her mouth. How...? She did not even hear anyone approaching.
’’It’s me,’’ Aleister placed his chin on her shoulder.
Esme slowly relaxed but her heart was still racing.
If it was other times, she would have recognized him. Even if she didn’t, her first instinct would have been to attack him.
But after reading about a witch, she felt like ants were crawling throughout her body and when someone touched her, she was horrified that Marilyn was out to eat her after the last time she injured the woman.
’’Al, you know what I just read?" she leaned back into his embrace as his palm trailed down from her mouth to her neck.
’’I will know if you tell me.’’
’’A witch’s curse.... it is so powerful that it lasts for lifetimes,’’ she sighed. Not just a lifetime, but lifetimes. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Aleister was silent.
And she took it as him agreeing to those words. A thought crossed her mind, ’’What about her...?"
Even though she did not take her name but Aleister knew who she was talking about, ’’She is in the dungeon. My father is looking for a way to suppress her forever.’’
Esme was briefly surprised by the ’my father’ that slipped from his mouth and even he seemed to be surprised too because she felt his arms stiffening around her waist.
But she felt happier now. It was not a bad thing that he had grown to accept his father.
And it relieved her to know that God Atlas has been looking for a way to suppress Marilyn.
As the silence stretched, she said, ’’Didn’t you say you won’t come?"
She had waited outside the library for him but he did not come and she was disappointed in the end. Why did he come now then?
Aleister’s lips thinned, ’’I thought you would cry while missing me.’’
She turned around to look at him, ’’Why would I cry...?" Esme had just started speaking arrogantly but in the end, she placed her head on his chest, ’’I felt like crying when I did not see you after noon...’’ her voice had a touch of vulnerability.
If it was earlier, she would have rather died than be this vulnerable in front of anyone. She would have hidden such thoughts behind the mask of nonchalance. But one year, those long months, and the terrible ache of that night had changed many things for her.
She never wanted to be left with regrets now that she got him back.
She felt like she was blessed that she regained her memories when Aleister was by her side. She could kiss him and slap him the moment she regained consciousness that night and that soothed her heart to know that he was right there, in flesh. He was alive and well, and most importantly, right in front of her.
Esme did not dare to imagine what she would have done if he was not there around her and she regained her memories, thinking that he had died.
At the same time, her heart ached for him. She forgot everything but he didn’t. He had to stay in an unfamiliar place, amongst unfamiliar people with all his memories intact.
’’Did you think of me when you first went to heaven?" She tilted her head to look at him.
’’What are you talking about, Princess? Do I look that idle?" Aleister quirked a brow.
Esme’s lips twitched. She had the sudden urge to kick him somewhere it might hurt for days.
But her urge shattered when he chuckled, the sound of his laughter made her heart tickle, ’’I was unconscious for months but ever since I woke up, all I did was think about you,’’ he sighed, ’’It is not bad that I have a younger brother who could not tolerate my pathetic state and ended up coming here as a messenger.’’
