Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 307: The spell faded
’Do you think your divination can be wrong this time?’ The King had questioned, to which the old man laughed, ’My divination has never been wrong. I can see the dark clouds looming over this castle. Your daughter’s kindness will become the cause of her doom. She has a loyal heart. Even though she doesn’t remember him, she would never forget the shared affection between them. You can hide her away from the world, but she will never be hidden from him.’
As the thunderstrikes roared in the night sky, the young Maverick heard the old man’s voice which had started drifting away from the court, ’Your daughter was never meant to live this life. He stubbornly gave it to her. He broke the rules by making her reincarnate. The heavens will never forgive him for his impudence. The life he gave her, he would become the reason it is snatched from her,’ the old man repeated the same words he had said earlier as he left the courtroom.
The young Maverick who was hiding behind the throne did not understand much except for the fact that his sister’s life will be harmed. He could only cry without making a sound.
The next time when the King visited the old Priest, Adeline was already abducted by Atlas. The old priest was on his deathbed and he could not recognize anyone, let alone perform divinations.
The King passed away in the grief of losing his daughter. The future Queen of Visteria was gone. Alexander ascended the throne.
But then they met her again after some time. Adeline was saddened by what happened to their father.
Maverick never knew much about the existence of heaven back then. He only knew that the man who took her away was powerful. And now that she was back, she did not seem unhappy. Both the brothers were content that regardless of how mysterious this whole matter was, their sister was treated well.
Before she left, she promised she will visit again. But they never expected she will come back soon after she left.
She looked heartbroken as she cried in front of his elder brother.
’He betrayed me. He said I was the only person he loved. He said they were husband and wife only in name and both of them were friends who would go in their separate ways after the court regained its calm. She said she had no affection for him. Yet, both of them betrayed me. I will never go back to the heavens,’ she was crying as she spoke yet her tone held undeniable determination.
Adeline was a person with high self-esteem. Even when she fell in love with Atlas, she held herself back because she knew he had a wife. To her, it did not matter what the world was like or how many women men were used to having.
Despite being the King, their father only had one wife whom he loved dearly, the late Queen of Visteria who passed away while giving birth to Maverick. Their elder brother also married his beloved after ascending the throne, never once taking a mistress. In the Daven family, it was looked down upon to have many women and such values were instilled deeply in Adeline.
The person who loved her must only love her. He should not have a mistress, he should not have another woman. So, she never thought of accepting Atlas regardless of her feelings for him. But both Marilyn and Atlas told her that there was nothing between them. Their marriage would soon be void as soon as the chaos in the night court was settled. That’s what Atlas promised her.
Even if he had feelings for Marilyn, he should have told her. Just because she refused to share her man, that did not mean she was unwilling to let him love at his will. What hurt her the most was that she was lied to. And they made her the mistress. Again and again, they told her there was nothing between them.
One became her love. The other became her friend. Yet...
Yet, she saw them in bed together the moment she went back from the mortal world. She was hurt and betrayed but she was determined to never accept that man again no matter how much she loved him. She could give up on her life for his sake but she would never give up on her dignity.
When she realized that she was pregnant, she was more determined to never go back to that man. The royal physician examined her and the Queen and revealed that both of them were pregnant with sons.
Adeline was happy even though she missed Atlas more than ever. But the more she missed him, the further she convinced herself that she had made the right decision.
The child in her womb must never think that his mother was pathetic. He should never become like her or his father. He should live with grace and dignity and he would be a loyal man. Her son would be kind-hearted enough to brave all the storms for his loved ones but he must be ruthless enough to annihilate everything that threatens him. He must... must never be like her or his father.
A long time had passed since she said those words but Duke Maverick felt like those words were still echoing in his ear. He wanted to tell his sister... that his nephew did not let her down at all... but she was far away from him.
The wind dried his tears and the man’s words remained unsaid. But his heart was at peace knowing that Aleister and Esme were fine.
Once they were out of the territory of Visteria, all the servants in the Daven Castle broke free from Cardan’s spell. They asked each other if something happened lately. They felt like they were forgetting something but they could not remember what they were forgetting. All that was left in their mind were some hazy memories that they were unsure of recovering.
