Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 311: God of a father?
After walking out of the King’s bedchamber, Esme was feeling rather fuzzy and warm.
So, she had a father now? She felt a hint of awkwardness knowing that she would have to address him as such whenever she encountered him from then on but still, it did not feel as uncomfortable as she had thought it would. The feeling of having a father... though awkward, still made her feel a different kind of warmth.
When she came to Defire a year ago, she had lost all her memories. Without Aleister by her side, without her memories, she was more like a puppet under the manipulation of the Norwell Family. Though Luciana treated her well but she could not stay by her side all the time. And Esme had been cautious back then, she plotted everything knowing that she could not trust anyone around her.
She had planned to use Jeremiah to ensure her survival and amidst all her plots, it was only the King who could make her let her guard down unconsciously. No matter how wary she was of others, she unknowingly never guarded herself facing Rezeph. He was unreasonable from the first time she met him, his care came without any reason and the way he pampered her... it was as if she was a treasure. His actions had always been mysterious but deep within her heart, her instincts told her that he would not harm her.
But without memories, she forced herself to stay wary. After she regained her memories, she could not bring herself to be attached to someone she would be parting with soon.
Yet, lately, Esme felt like life was too short and unpredictable to worry about unnecessary things.
It felt like just yesterday when she went to Daven’s Castle and was spoiled by the whole Daven family there. The whole royal family reprimanded Aleister all the time while Aleister just sat with a wooden face at the dining table as if nothing could faze him.
But those moments had turned into hazy memories now. Every member of the Daven Family was gone in one way or another. Duke Maverick was held hostage by Jeremiah.
When she parted with her Aunt, she acted distant from her so that Marlene would not delay her marriage anymore and leave. She did not want to drag her aunt into the chaos she was facing. She thought the separation would end once Esme unveiled the mysteries around her yet an eternity seemed to have passed and she did not know how it was in Nevesray.
A year has brought about so many changes.
If she held back from doing what she wanted just because of the unpredictable future, wouldn’t she be left with endless regrets?
Esme sighed softly as she made her way towards Aleister’s bedchamber. She needed to tell him about her newfound "father" and apologize for the way she had acted earlier regarding Cardan.
As she thought about it, Esme cringed. Her words back then were uncalled for. He would not be angry, would he?
Although he had not looked angry when she left his side, but what if he reconsidered it later and felt like she was too vicious? Her face darkened slightly.
’’Princess, My Lord is not in the chambers,’’ the guards who were guarding the door were the heavenly guards, not the people from Defire.
When she heard their words, Esme frowned, ’’Where did he go? When will he be back?"
Both the guards looked at each other, confused. This mortal princess in front of them would be their lady in the future. They did not dare to deceive her. If anything, they wanted to please her but when the opportunity came, they felt rather helpless, ’’We are unaware of the Lord’s whereabouts.’’
Who was their Lord? How could they know where he went and what he did? Their Lord did not even let the higher-ranked guards follow him around, let alone them.
Esme felt helpless.
But she walked past them and entered Aleister’s room, ’’When he comes back, don’t tell him I am waiting inside,’’ she whispered to them with a meaningful look.
The guards were dumbstruck but they still nodded although they could not tell why she had to stay inside their lord’s room in secrecy when she would be discovered the moment he stepped inside.
The heavenly guards, after all, were all men who went through hellish training the moment they turned of age. Having no interaction with women, they were unaware of many things about the interaction between men and women. The slightly emotionally intelligent ones amongst them sharpened their observation skills and learned more from watching others but most of them were one-minded about fulfilling their duties. They had no interest in unrelated things.
Naturally, Esme was not going to explain her intention to these men who were staring at her like dumb sheep.
In the future, she would arrange some tea parties for them where they could meet and get to know ladies rather than trailing after Aleister like lost puppies. Esme made a mental note.
The heavenly guards had no idea that their fate was sealed just by their two foolish mates’ naive expressions.
Esme closed the door behind her and walked towards the bed in the center of the room.
She felt like coaxing Aleister should be rather easy if she prepared a surprise for him in his absence. As for what surprise she would present him with... it should be herself.
With that notion in her mind, she sat on the bed without a second thought.
While she waited for Aleister, a significant part of the conversation with the King circled her mind.
She had come to discover quite a lot of things that she was previously unaware of. Starting from Luciana’s strength to the truth about Hellfire.
Hellfire is a divine power, just like Aleister’s golden magic.
That was out of her expectation.
Esme had assumed that maybe there would be other mers who possessed this ability as well but what Rezeph revealed quelled all her doubts.
Divine abilities. Only the true gods born from the powers of heaven and earth possessed divine powers and not even all the true gods were blessed with them.
Her mother was a human and that only meant that her powers had more or less to do with this mysterious father of hers.
But if Hellfire was a divine power and she was a mermaid who possessed it then the only name that came to her mind was—God Zephyr.
From what she discovered a few weeks ago, the serpent clan was indebted to God Zephyr because he had helped them in a battle by summoning Hellfire. At that time, Esme had concluded that just like her, many others had inherited this ability from their God but with her ’father’ telling her that this ability was another form of divine power, her guess turned out to be wrong. How can divine power be passed to every mer?
Aleister inherited pure divine powers from his father. Even Cardan inherited his mixed divine powers from his parents.
As for Esme.. she did not think stocks would be capable of dropping the ability to summon hellfire to her.
But the only other possibility in her mind was so ridiculous that her heart trembled at the thought of it.
God Zephyr was her biological father?
Esme’s fingers shuddered as she grabbed the edge of the sheets. Her mother was a queen who was revered throughout the four great kingdoms for her strength and wits. Since young, Esme also admired her mother who was so powerful that she put men to shame.
But for the first time in her life, Esme felt like her admiration was rather pale.
Her mother should be worshipped.
If she was indeed the child of her mother and God Zephyr...
Esme broke in another round of goosebumps and she did not dare to think further.
One King of a father was already more than what she could take. If she met this God of father, she decided to run west.
Shaking her head, she composed herself and pushed herself to her feet.
Unknowingly, she had spent hours in Aleister’s room lost in her thoughts but he had yet to come back.
Sighing softly, she turned to look at the empty bed and a hint of slyness flashed in her eyes. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Maybe she should get some flowers prepared for him.
She raised her hand to use her magic but her brows furrowed when she felt a subtle fluctuation in the air.
Esme put her hand down, and her face turned cold, ’’Who is there?"
