Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 339: Was it Aleister?
Just as he had taken a step towards her, he had heard her whisper, ’’Do they all come to play with me because I am the princess? If I was not, would they still be my friends?" her tiny fingers fiddled with the fabric of her gown as she fumbled to herself.
And Rezeph wanted nothing more than reach out and hold her tightly in his arms to tell her that she was much more than being just a princess and she deserved nothing but the whole world. He wanted to assure her till the smile she had been faking stopped being fake and till her heart was assured of how lovable she was. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
But he had turned around and left. Instead of following his heart, he had listened to his mind. Intending to let her have a safe and protected childhood, he never approached her.
And years after, that very little girl was holding him as if she could not bear to see him hurting.
The ice around his heart seemed to have been thawed bit by bit, making him feel a familiar warmth that consumed him.
Rezeph’s tears fell as he raised his hand and held Esme tighter in his arms, ’’If you were not there, this long life would never have been worth leaving.’’
’’But I am here,’’ Esme interjected, pulling back from the man as she held her hand, ’’I felt upset for some time when I realized that you have been keeping me in dark but never once did I resent you for anything.’’
Rezeph’s smiled and raised his hand to stroke her hair.
Esme felt her heart warming up. Her fingers shivered slightly and she curled them tightly.
Having a father... felt like someone engraved a pair of wings on her back. A pair of wings that made her fly anytime she felt like the world weighed her down.
It was a... nice feeling.
Before Esme left, she halted her tracks and turned around to look at Rezeph, ’’It was Aleister, wasn’t it?"
Rezeph froze as he turned to glance at her.
’’The boy whom you mentioned in the last letter. It was Aleister, wasn’t it?’’
Rezeph sighed softly, ’’Yes.’’
Esme stood in her spot quietly.
Rezeph continued speaking, ’’When I found Aleister, he was severely wounded. I brought him here and it took me months to heal him. Then, I took him in seclusion to teach him how to handle his powers.’’ During that time, Rezeph did not get to see Anastasia’s letters which in turn made her believe that he was upset with her, ’’And...’’
Before Rezeph could continue speaking, Esme turned around and walked away.
’Rustle’
’’What will you do now?" The moment Rezeph’s voice dropped, Aleister appeared in front of him.
The glimmer of golden that had enveloped him during the teleportation disappeared. He had been right there, listening to every word that came out of Esme’s mouth.
’’What if she blames you?" Rezeph looked at the man questioningly. He had notprepared himself to talk to Esme which is why he ended up avoiding her in the past few days.
But Aleister had seen how much that delayed conversation with her father bothered Esme. Hence, he was the one who came to talk to Rezeph.
’The more time you take to prepare yourself, the more she frowns.’ he had told Rezeph.
’What do you mean?’
’I refuse to see a frown on her face. Talk to her. I do not want to see her like that ever again.’
’Do you think talking to her would put everything back in place? What if I tell you that it might involve you as well?’
Aleister had looked at him in confusion while Rezeph revealed everything that had transpired back then to him. And by the time he was done, Aleister was in shock after knowing about his involvement in the whole matter.
If Esme discovered that he was somehow the reason her mother was not with her anymore, what would she feel? Even though he was a child at that time, would she be able to look at him in the eyes without feeling resentment for him?
Aleister did not know and he did not want to think, ’Tell her,’ was all he said to Rezeph, ’If she hates me, I will let her. But all I want is for her to have a peace of mind.’
...
Luciana stood in front of Cardan bedchamber. In her hands, she was holding the diary that he had sent to her.
The guards glanced at each other before opening their mouths to speak, ’’My Lady, do you want to...?"
’’No... I am leaving,’’ Luciana cut them off immediately.
Cardan’s guards hesitated to speak more after hearing the resolution in her voice. By now, they were aware of the importance that Luciana held in Cardan’s life hence they did not dare to neglect her in the slightest but if she wanted to leave without meeting their Prince, what else could they do? They could not forcefully make her stay for their Prince.
Luciana turned around to leave but a firm voice halted her in her tracks.
’’You are coming to my doors and leaving just like that, without even blessing me with your presence. What are you trying to imply by doing that, Lucy?"
Luciana turned around to glance at Cardan who had walked up to her at some point.
Cardan held her hand and led her inside the room.
As he stepped past the doors, he looked at his guards from above his shoulder.
The guards promptly took the clue and closed the doors.
Luciana was flustered, ’’I was not here to see you,’’ she whispered, trying to pull her hand away.
But Cardan held her tighter and yanked her towards him, ’’You were not. And?’’ he leaned closer before biting her neck.
’’And you should not hold me back here,’’ Luciana arched her neck as he held her tighter in his arms, till she could feel the warmth of his body seeping in every inch of her skin.
