"Ahhh...’’

An ear-piercing scream reverberated inside the prison of the Crystal Castle.

Cardan closed his eyes as blood splashed on his face.

Neither did the blood belong to him, nor did he detest blood but he could not bear to watch the sight in front of him when he opened his eyes.

Even with eyes closed, that vision seemed to have imprinted itself in his mind. Luciana was soaked in blood as she skinned Jeremiah alive, inch by inch, till he resembled a ball of flesh.

And even as she skinned him, she pressed a burning rod on his flesh. The torture had turned Jeremiah’s voice become so broken that it sounded like the squeak of a mouse every time he screamed in agony. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

The man was even unable to use the simplest tricks to defend himself and all his resistance had disappeared in thin air.

But Cardan was not the least bit bothered about Jeremiah.

His gaze shifted to Luciana who had an emotionless face. Drenched in blood from head to toe, she stood there unbothered as she tortured Jeremiah even more. When she felt like the pain being inflicted on him was not enough, she would summon her magic to pierce his body till more blood and flesh oozed out of him.

She seemed like a person he had never known. This side of her was devilish, yet enchanting to him. But the disguised hurt in her eyes was where she got him weak.

This hurt... this pain... this very same agony she was feeling was the reason why he did not tell her about Jeremiah’s evil deeds.

When they were outside, she had smiled and laughed with him and Cardan assumed that she had managed to get a touch on reality, that she would keep herself in control while dealing with the murderer of her mother.

Yet the moment they entered the prison, her aura changed entirely. She seemed to have become another person.

’’Ahhhhhhh!" An ear piercing scream reverberated in the air. Jeremiah’s hoarse voice seemed to have been revived by the intensity of the torture.

Two eyeballs rolled down, oozing blood as they fell on the ground.

Cardan walked towards Luciana, his hand reaching out towards her palm, ’’Lucy, stop,’’ he captured her wrist.

But she emotionlessly glanced at Jeremiah who had been reduced into a ball of flesh and proceeded to free her hand from Cardan’s grasp so that she could torture him.

Cardan however did not let her. He held her wrist tighter and pulled her back into his arms. He hugged her from the back.

’’Let me go,’’ Luciana’s voice was cold.

Cardan did not budge.

’’I said, let me go,’’ she forced him away from her with a huge force as she turned around, pressing the dagger to his chest.

A drop of blood oozed out from the Cardan’s robes and Luciana’s hand froze slightly.

’’Stab me if you wish, Lucy but don’t do this to yourself,’’ Cardan whispered as he stepped closer to her, unafraid of the dagger that was pressed to his chest.

With every step he took, she backed the dagger away from him inch by inch till her hand came down. The dagger in her hand dropped to the ground, along with the tears that rolled down her cheeks, taking shapes of small pearls as they fell.

Cardan pulled her into his arms, ’’He is dead,’’ his eyes grazed over Jeremiah’s corpse aloofly but as he kissed Luciana’s head, his gaze turned gentle.

Luciana did not say anything, remaining still in his arms.

But as seconds passed by, the sound of soft sobs reverberated in the prison.

Cardan held the woman tighter in his arms, ’’You have avenged your mother, Lucy. The people who did that to her are not having the last laugh and that was the best revenge you could have taken,’’ he whispered, stroking her back, ’’You did well.’’

He did not know how long he had held her, whispering soft words to her, telling her that she did well. And she did not know how long she wanted to be held by him like that.

"I want to go home,’’ Luciana whispered once she calmed down.

"I will go with you,’’ Cardan responded without hesitation.

’’You don’t feel comfortable in water.’’

’’My comfort is your presence, Lucy,’’ he cupped her face and kissed her forehead, ’’Moreover, I am not an ordinary human. I won’t die even if I am uncomfortable,’’ he rolled his eyes.

Luciana laughed through her tears. To think that someone like Cardan was afraid of water because he once fell in the heavenly dark lake as a child and now he had the audacity to act like he was not scared.

She shook her head at him.

The both of them went together inside the sea, with Luciana holding Cardan’s hand. With his powers, it was not difficult for Cardan to be able to breath inside the water. But a mer’s body was unique in a way that made it easy for them to cut through the water with their fins and move in the water swiftly.

Hence, their travel was more convenient because of Luciana holding his hand as they dove deeper inside the sea. And the other reason why Luciana had to hold Cardan’s hand was because while the man said that he would be fine, the moment he jumped into the water, he clenched his eyes shut as if he had jumped into pits of death.

Left with no choice, Luciana had to grab his hand and drag him around like that. Had she not known that he was not being harmed in any way, then she would not have dared to bring him inside the sea given the way he was acting.

’’We are here,’’ Luciana announced.

When Cardan remained frozen, she poked him, ’’Are you that scared?"

’’W-Who is scared?" Cardan opened his eyes, almost defensive within an instant.

Luciana rolled her eyes, ’’You. Who else?"

’’I am not,’’ he lifted his chin.

’’Oh,’’ Luciana arched a brow before she released his hand in an instant.

’’Ah... Ah...’’ Cardan immediately curled his hand around her waist tightly, taking balance with her support.

Luciana looked at him in amusement.

’’I...’’ Cardan cleared his throat, ’’This is the first time I am touching your tails and the pretty green and shiny scales on it. It makes me want to stroke it,’’ While he spoke, he tickled her scales with his fingertips.

The fins on her tail stiffened at the sudden sensation as she glared at the man, ’’Pervert.’’

Please with her response, Cardan poked around some more before they proceeded to enter the manor.
