Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 357: Bottom line
’It ends here.’
It ends here.
It ends...
Her words echoed in the air as she walked away and step into the sea.
’Splash’
The sparkling tip of her emerald tail was all Cardan could see under the moonlight as he stood rooted to his spot.
’’Lucy...’’ the whisper had just escaped from his mouth when his arm was grabbed and he was yanked back as a fist landed on his face.
Cardan was unable to dodge in time and his face swung to one side by the immense force of the punch, his body staggering a few steps back.
When he raised his head, he was met with Aleister’s aloof eyes. Cardan glanced at Esme who was standing beside Aleister with her arms crossed in front of her chest as she scrutinized him.
And it did not take him more than a moment to understand that Luciana was not the only spectator to the conversation between him and his mother. They had other spectators as well who had kept themselves hidden properly even from him to notice their presence.
But Cardan was well aware that had it been his mother instead of her mirage then all these people would not have succeeded in staying hidden for so long. She would have noticed them regardless of how careful they were in hiding themselves.
Cardan raised his hand and wiped the blood that trickled down from the corner of his mouth, ’’Done?" he asked Aleister.
Aleister narrowed his eyes.
He did not have to guess to know what the punch was for, ’’I did not even say anything.’’
The man’s eyes turned cold.
Cardan frowned as he looked at the pair standing in front of him. He raked his fingers through his hair as frustration consumed him, ’’I had such motives but that was a long time ago. Then, Luciana Norwell happened to me and now no other woman looks like a woman. I...’’
"You don’t have to explain. I know it all,’’ Aleister carefully fixed his sleeves as he wiped the blood from his fist.
Cardan glanced at him speechlessly.
’’But I lose it every time I am reminded of the kind of scoundrel you were.’’
Cardan’s face changed shades. So, you would go as far as punching me every time you are reminded that I had some evil designs on your woman around an eternity ago?
He did not have to ask Aleister to know that the man would unabashedly say yes to it.
’’What are you both doing here?" Cardan asked instead.
’’Your mother sent me a present of her arrival,’’ Esme, who had been quiet all the time, spoke up. As Cardan glanced at her, she recounted the events that occurred with her.
When Esme had mindlessly asked Aleister to bring her to the place she dreamed of, she had not thought much about it but when Aleister did bring her there, both of them were taken aback when they saw Marilyn.
When Marilyn tried to scare Esme by invading her dream realms, she probably never thought that not only would Esme wake up but they will also come looking for her in the place she showed in the dreams.
As soon as they saw Marilyn talking to Cardan, Aleister covered them in a divine shield and since it was a mirage of Marilyn’s, the curse did not work up which is why Aleister’s powers were not rendered immobile in her presence.
Cardan frowned.
Silence sank between them as each was lost in their own thoughts.
Aleister broke the tension in the air, ’’I will send my people with the message.’’
Cardan deciphered the meaning behind those words. The message Aleister was talking about was a message to their father so that he could tighten the snares around Marilyn and forbid her from escaping again.
’’Do that,’’ Cardan waved at the man before he turned around and walked away, the sight of his retreating back appeared lonely as one looked at him.
’’Were you testing him?" Esme glanced at Aleister questioningly.
’’I was informing him about it,’’ Aleister turned to look at Esme, ’’I don’t have to test him, my dear moon. I trust him.’’
Esme paused as she looked at him with a hidden smile in her eyes.
’’For someone who ruthlessly punched him in the face, you are a nice brother, Al.’’
Aleister arched a brow as he raised his hand to tuck the loose strands of her hair behind her ear, ’’I will punch him every time I am reminded that he ever had any intentions towards you. That is not me being ruthless.’’
’’Oh?" Esme smiled, ’’What is it then?"
’’It is me reminding him or anyone in this world that you are my bottom line. If they cross you, they cross me and trust me...’’ he cupped her face, ’’I do not take it well.’’
...
"My Lady... My Lady...’’
In the Norwell Manor, it was yet another day of the maids fussing around about Luciana when it was breakfast time.
It has been over two weeks since the lady brought a man back to the Norwell Manor along with her. And some of them who were there during Esme’s fake ’marriage’ were aware of Cardan’s special identity as a heavenly prince. Seeing the both of them together, there was a hope in their hearts that good times were waiting for them and there was still some hope for their Norwell Manor.
But they did not know what happened. The man disappeared from their manor overnight and left behind was their lady who seemed distraught. If she went to bed and closed her eyes, sometimes she would be sleeping for two nights without eating or drinking.
If she stayed awake, she would be eating like a puppet, without sleeping for nights.
And although they did not know what transpired between the both of them, but one of the maids revealed that she had seen their lady following the Prince that night and that made all of the maids assume that something must have transpired between the both for her to act this way.
At this point as they saw their lady behaving in this manner, they could not help but curse that man.
