Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 367: Powers are gone
"I have a way.’’
Esme glanced at Cardan hopefully when she heard his proclamation, ’’What do you want to do?"
’’Let’s tear this place down, shall we?" Cardan’s lips curved up in an evil smirk.
And before Esme could say anything, the glow in his hand dimmed. In the next moment, his powers intensified and the cave was illuminated to the point of blinding someone’s vision.
Esme closed her eyes with her arm as she retreated a few steps back out of instinct.
’Silence’
She slowly opened her eyes when calm returned to the cave, ’’Are we out...’’
Her words trailed off when she noticed that there was not a single dent in the cave. Instead, the man who was supposed to tear it down was almost on the verge of panting as he leaned back on a rock. He illuminated the cave with his fluctuating powers.
’’What happened?" Esme’s lips twitched.
Cardan gazed at her and suddenly, Esme had a bad feeling. She wanted to ask him to not say it but before she could open her mouth, he spoke up.
’’My powers are gone.’’
Esme’s jaw dropped.
It took her a long moment to recover her senses, ’’What?"
’’My divine powers are gone,’’ Cardan confessed helplessly. He had not paid attention to that when he had illuminated the cave but now that he was trying to tear it down, he noticed that he was only left with black magic.
Esme was in disbelief, ’’You can only use black magic?"
Cardan raised his palm and as Esme looked at it closely, she noticed that there were no hints of golden in the black magic on his palm.
Cardan was not born with pure divine powers. He had inherited divine powers from his father but he had also inherited the black magic from his mother. Still, his powers always remained a perfect blend of both.
Esme contemplated over it for a moment before she spoke up, ’’Can you not break down this wall with the black magic?’’
Cardan paused briefly before he shook his head.
Esme blinked, ’’You are weaker than Jeremiah.’’
’’If you are missing your previous lover, say it. Don’t create metaphorical alliances of me with that floating dried leaf. My brother would not like it,’’ Cardan rolled his eyes, ’’I tried to tear down the walls just now but there seemed to be some strong power forbidding me."
Esme narrowed her eyes at him.
"I can control your mind with black magic if you want me to prove the might of my powers," Cardan added.
Esme immediately stopped looking at him.
’’I was joking.’’
’’You are not trustworthy,’’ she said.
Cardan sighed. He was not proficient in evil arts like his mother because ever since he was young, she had wanted him to rigorously train divine powers only so that one day she could purify his powers. As much as he wanted to make the most out of the powers he possessed and practice both, it was impossible because the growth of two invincible powers in his body would eventually cause them to clash and his body would explode.
So, he was bound to repress one power with the other. But despite doing that, his divine powers were not at their peak because of them being impure and also because of the existence of the powers of the witch clan in his body that forbid it from reaching its full potential.
As Cardan explained his condition to Esme, Esme fell silent for a moment. She patted his shoulder quietly before clearing her throat, ’’Don’t worry. We will find another way," she never thought that there would be a day where she would be consoling Cardan.
Esme frowned and walked towards one wall of the cave as she tapped on it before knocking on it a bit harder.
’’Is that the way you were talking about?" Cardan was speechless. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Esme eyed the man, ’’Do you have a better way? Perhaps you can pave a path for us from the ground?"
The moment she said that, both of them fell silent.
Cardan’s eyes sparkled, "I can do that,’’ he paused as soon as he said that. After thinking for a moment, he added, ’’But we do not know what kind of place this is or where we are. What if the danger outside is even greater?’’
They were safe as they were inside the cave even though they felt helpless. But without their powers, it was not safe for them to risk their life by going outside when they did not retain an ounce of their original powers.
If Cardan was alone, he would have tried doing that but with Esme around, he did not want to put her life at risk lest his brother butchered him when they met.
’’What kind of greater danger can possibly be out there?" Esme shook her head, ’’A sea of fire? A house of demons? Even if it is like that, then at least we get to get out of this place. How long can we even stay here?"
Cardan fell into contemplation, ’’But we don’t know how huge this cave is and where it ends.’’
Esme pondered over his words for a moment before she suddenly realized something. She pressed her ear to the wall of the cave.
Cardan blinked, ’’What are you doing again?"
"Shh...’’
Even though he had questions to ask, he eventually gave up and remained quiet.
After a few moments, Esme turned to look at him with glowing eyes.
’’Why are you looking at me like that? Even if you are hungry or something, don’t think of eating my flesh," Cardan said cautiously. He could still take her life when he thought she was an illusion. Now even that was impossible.
’’What are you talking about?"
’’I have heard you mers have dark desires. You eat mortals’ flesh when you feel like it,’’ The tales of mers had always been a mystery, even to most immortals because Rezeph had always kept a tight hold on his tribe, not letting words about them get out in the open, ’’I, at that, am an immortal. My flesh might be meatier and you might be my brother’s lover but I am not letting you do that!" he said warily.
