Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 13: Leaning in to Kiss Chloe Nash
Seeing Chloe Nash lying in his arms, her face pale as a sheet, Silas Prescott was so anxious he could barely breathe.
Even his voice seemed to change, "Dr. Nash, are you okay?"
Lucy Rhodes was a little curious.
Her brother was always placid in a crisis, even when Julian was sick, he was never this nervous.
Why was he so concerned about Dr. Nash?
She hurried to comfort him, "Bro, it’s probably just that the operation lasted too long and she’s exhausted. Put her in a ward, I’ll get a doctor over."
Silas carried Chloe directly to the hospital room.
His footsteps were as fast as possible, terrified that if he delayed, Chloe would be in danger.
He had just placed Chloe on the hospital bed when Lucy came running in with the doctor.
"Bro, the doctor’s here."
The doctor walked over and did a preliminary check on Chloe.
Silas asked tightly, "How is she?"
The doctor took off his stethoscope, "It’s nothing serious—probably low blood sugar, maybe anemia, plus prolonged exhaustion which led to her fainting. We’ll do a blood routine test just to be sure."
He instructed a nurse to come draw blood. When the needle pierced Chloe’s vein, she frowned slightly in pain.
A soft sound escaped her throat, "It hurts."
In her unconscious state, Chloe’s voice wasn’t disguised.
She used Sienna Paxton’s tone.
Just that one word was enough to set Silas’s emotions spiraling out of control.
He rushed forward, grabbed Chloe’s hand, disbelief in his voice, "Sienna?"
Seeing him like this, Lucy hurried over and patted his shoulder.
"Bro, she’s Chloe, not Sienna."
Silas’s eyes were a little red at the corners, "But I just heard her voice..."
"Bro, are you hallucinating? They’re totally different, in looks and personality. Why do you keep saying she’s Sienna? When girls get sick, they sound like this, all soft and cutesy—if you don’t believe me, listen."
Lucy pinched her voice, softly calling out ’It hurts’.
It did sound a bit like Chloe’s just now.
The hope Silas just started to feel was instantly extinguished.
His expression was deeply desolate.
He slowly released Chloe’s hand, his voice weary, "Keep an eye on her, I’m going to see Grandfather."
He turned and left.
Watching his departing figure, Lucy couldn’t help but shake her head once.
Her brother must miss Sienna so much.
That’s why he confused Chloe for her.
He’d been searching for years, with no sign Sienna was still alive.
If this kept up, her brother was going to lose his mind.
No way.
She needed to think of something to help her brother move on, for good.
When Chloe woke up, the first thing she saw was Lucy.
She instinctively clenched her fingers.
She had no idea what had happened after she fainted.
Had Sienna’s identity been exposed?
She quickly sat up in bed, "What’s wrong with me?"
Lucy saw her awake and immediately handed her a glass of water. "The doctor said you were too exhausted, probably low blood sugar or anemia, they’ve already taken blood for testing—the results should be out soon."
Hearing this, Chloe’s eyes narrowed sharply.
She absolutely couldn’t let Silas Prescott see her blood report.
She immediately climbed out of bed to put on her shoes, "I’m fine, just didn’t sleep well last night. There’s no need to wait for the test results, Miss Rhodes, you can go now."
Lucy helped steady her, "Don’t move around. If anything happens, my brother will eat me alive. He asked me to stay with you, the blood report will be sent soon—it won’t hurt to wait."
Knowing it was Silas who’d brought her, and that he was keeping an eye on her blood work,
Chloe was so nervous her heart felt like it was in her throat.
She had to get the report before Silas did. She could not let him see it.
If he did, he’d start suspecting her real identity.
Just as she tried to struggle out of bed to get the report herself from the lab, the door to the room swung open.
Silas Prescott stood at the doorway, cold and detached.
There were several papers in his hand.
Seeing this, Chloe immediately rushed forward and snatched the report from his grasp, eyes frantic.
Her voice was trembling, "Thank you, Mr. Prescott, just give it here—I’ll check it myself."
Silas saw her panicked look, saw how desperately she grabbed the report—completely different from the usually composed Chloe.
People only lose control like this when the truth is about to come out.
Why was Chloe so afraid for him to see that report?
What exactly was she trying to hide?
Silas’s suspicions had been growing wild ever since he saw the results.
He forcibly reigned in his emotions and looked at Lucy, "There are things to deal with at your grandfather’s side. Go take a look."
Lucy could tell something was off between the two of them.
But facing her brother’s orders, she didn’t dare disobey.
She gave a quiet ’okay’: "Then you look after Dr. Nash, she’s hellbent on leaving."
The door closed behind her, leaving only the two of them in the room, each hiding their secrets.
Chloe was so tense she could hear her own heartbeat.
From the look in Silas’s eyes, she could tell he’d already read her report.
And that he was already suspicious about her identity.
Chloe felt danger closing in, as if in the next second, her mask would be ripped off by Silas.
But she forced herself to conceal the panic inside.
She appeared calm, "Mr. Prescott, thank you for bringing me here, I’m fine now. You should go and take care of your grandfather."
Silas didn’t leave. He stepped closer and closer to her, a powerful presence radiating off him.
Chloe instinctively backed up a few steps and collapsed onto the bed.
Just as she tried to stand again, Silas held her in place.
The man braced both arms on either side of her, his presence sharp and fierce as he leaned toward her.
His voice was low, rasping and dark: "Dr. Nash, why are you so nervous? Are you hiding something from me?"
This was the moment—Chloe had no choice but to take a risk.
Silas’s face was so close she could feel the heat of his breath.
Chloe clenched her fist tightly.
She looked at Silas, feigning indifference, "I don’t want outsiders knowing about my medical condition—does that bother you?"
Danger flickered in Silas’s eyes, "I read your report. You have mild thalassemia—it’s genetic. I looked into your parents’ medical records, neither has it. Chloe Nash, who are you really?"
The answer lurking inside him was almost bursting out.
Because Sienna also had mild thalassemia; he couldn’t believe it was just a coincidence.
Silas’s emotions were at a breaking point—like the next moment, he’d grab Chloe by the throat.
And kiss her until she cried.
Chloe knew Silas was relentless.
Once he got a clue, he would follow it to the bitter end.
She hadn’t expected him to find her parents’ information so quickly.
This man was terrifying.
Chloe tried to steady herself and looked at Silas, her expression icily calm.
"Mr. Prescott, don’t you think digging into someone else’s medical record without permission is disrespectful? Everyone is entitled to their secrets—why do you insist on investigating?
Why I have thalassemia—how is that your business? It’s my secret—why should I tell you?"
Hearing this, Silas ground his teeth hard. "Chloe Nash, do you think I can’t find out? Don’t make me use force."
With that, he leaned in to kiss Chloe.
