Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 137: Chloe, Let Me Hold You a Little Longer
The Sterling Family’s house rules clearly state that the daughter-in-law must have a clean reputation.
This was also why Claire Channing slandered Chloe Nash with indecent rumors back then.
No matter how much Jett Sterling loved her, as long as she lost her reputation, she couldn’t step into the Sterling Family’s doors.
When Chloe heard these discussions, her face gradually turned pale.
By now, she knew that Claire Channing’s repeated attempts to frame the Nashes were not to stop Jett and Chloe from being together but because she feared Mrs. Nash revealing her true identity.
So, in order to cover up her identity, she forced Chloe away five years ago and framed Chloe’s parents five years later.
Yet, it was the Nashes who financially supported her growing up.
The thought that her biological mother was the one who framed the Nashes made Chloe tighten her grip on the chopsticks in her hand in anger.
Seeing her reaction, Silas Prescott quickly took the chopsticks from her hand.
He gently patted her head, comforting her, "Don’t worry, I won’t let her continue to frame you. I will find evidence of her crimes."
Jett Sterling gritted his teeth in anger, "My dad always held her in high regard, never expecting she’d deceive him. If he finds out about this, he definitely won’t let her get away with it."
Silas spoke in a deep voice, "That’s why she framed your uncle and aunt; she wants to eliminate anyone who knows the truth. We don’t have concrete evidence yet, so we mustn’t alert her too soon." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Jett said, "I’ve looked into Claire Channing. She’s the Channing Family’s daughter. After returning from studying abroad, she joined the Sterling Group and later became my dad’s secretary. They married after my mom passed away."
Upon hearing these words, Caden Sinclair suddenly interjected, "How did your mom die?"
"Cancer."
"I see, I thought Claire Channing might have killed her."
This comment made Jett’s eyes turn bloodshot.
He was only three years old when his mother passed away, and the reason for her death was what the adults told him.
It seems he really should investigate this matter thoroughly.
He said, "There’s no record of marriage or children in Claire Channing’s file. There must be something fishy about this."
Mrs. Nash asserted, "I’m sure she was married and had a daughter, about the same age as Chloe. I saw them once while shopping. Her husband is a policeman, quite handsome. I’m positive there’s no mistake."
Silas’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Perhaps this Claire Channing isn’t the real Claire Channing."
Upon hearing this, everyone’s chest tightened.
If Silas, so clever, could suspect that Claire Channing was not who she seemed, then what about Chloe?
Would he start doubting her as well?
Mr. North quickly changed the subject, "We’ll slowly investigate this, we at least have some leads now. Let’s continue eating before the food gets cold."
After dinner, everyone left.
Chloe walked up to Mr. and Mrs. Nash and kneeled on the floor with a ’thump.’
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Dad, Mom, I’m sorry."
Seeing her like this, Mr. and Mrs. Nash were startled. They quickly pulled her up and asked, "Chloe, what are you doing? Why do you think you owe us an apology?"
With tear-filled eyes, Chloe looked at them, "Claire Channing is Sienna Paxton’s birth mother, and that policeman was my father. Years ago, to marry into the Sterling Family, she left my paralyzed father and three-year-old me behind. Sienna saved me with her life, but my birth mother repeatedly framed you. I’m the one who is sorry."
Mrs. Nash was stunned upon hearing this.
She never expected Sienna to be Claire Channing’s child.
Claire Channing’s real name was Iris, discovered by Mrs. Nash and her father when they were funding the orphanage.
Seeing her academic excellence and graceful appearance, her father decided to sponsor her one-on-one.
He not only provided her tuition fees but also frequently brought her home during holidays, bought her new clothes, and treated her to good food.
Thus, Mrs. Nash and Iris always shared a sister-like bond.
After her father passed away, and Iris graduated from college, they lost contact.
Remembering all this, Mrs. Nash was incredulous. She gently caressed Sienna Paxton’s face and said, "Sienna, I never thought you were Iris’s daughter. Little Iris and I were like sisters when she was young. Her child is my child. What she did has nothing to do with you. Never say things like this again, okay?"
Upon hearing this, Sienna burst into tears.
The magnanimity of the Nashes left her feeling ashamed.
She threw herself into Mrs. Nash’s arms, crying, "But she is still my birth mother. If not for her, Chloe wouldn’t have separated from Jett or died on the battlefield."
Mrs. Nash also began to tear up.
She felt sympathy for Sienna’s plight, but her heart ached for her own daughter’s fate.
She gently stroked Sienna’s head, saying, "She is her, and you are you. You are also a victim; how could I let you bear this burden? But what if Silas discovers that Claire Channing is Sienna Paxton’s mother, and from that, deduces you are Sienna? What will you do then?"
Sienna shook her head, "I’m not afraid. Claire Channing has repeatedly framed you; I won’t let her off."
"Let’s discuss this later. For now, focus on your plan and don’t think too much."
"I will tell Jett about this."
At this point, there was no reason to hide any longer.
She must seek justice for the Nashes.
What she didn’t know was that as soon as she left for work, Mrs. Nash made a phone call to Jett Sterling.
She explained the situation and then earnestly said, "Young Sterling, I don’t want Sienna to get entangled with Silas again. It’s better to pause this investigation until she’s gone. It won’t be too late to reconvene."
Receiving this news filled Jett with complicated emotions.
Sienna was someone Chloe had protected with her life, and he couldn’t let her fall into the mire again.
But Chloe’s death remained a thorn in his heart.
Claire Channing was the mastermind behind it all, and he couldn’t stand by idly watching her go unpunished.
Jett brooded in the bar, drinking alone.
Holding Chloe’s photo, he spoke hoarsely, "Chloe, I’m sorry. If I’d trusted you more, you wouldn’t have left. What should I do so you can find peace?"
After speaking, he knocked back another drink.
Unintentionally, several empty bottles lined the table.
As Jett gradually became intoxicated, he stood up, staggering. Suddenly, a figure appeared before him.
Kate Winslow immediately supported his arm, pretending to be Chloe, "Jett, you’ve drunk too much. Let me take you home."
His vision blurry, Jett felt as if he heard Chloe’s voice.
He immediately grabbed Kate’s arm and asked, "Chloe, is that you? Is it really you?"
Seeing her scheme succeed, Kate curved her lips smugly.
"Jett, if you drink this much again, I won’t care for you anymore."
Upon hearing this, Jett’s eyes became moist.
He rasped, "Alright, I’ll listen to you. Just don’t leave me, okay?"
"Okay, as long as you behave, I’ll take you back to your room."
A hint of triumph flashed in Kate’s eyes. Once she and Jett consummated their relationship, she was confident she’d become the Sterling Family’s daughter-in-law.
Just as she was about to take Jett to a room, a shadow suddenly passed before her eyes.
Before she could react, she felt a hit on the back of her neck and instantly lost consciousness.
Jett’s body fell into a man’s embrace.
Sensing his familiar presence, Jett couldn’t hold back his tears, his voice choked as he whispered, "Chloe, I only get to see you in dreams. Let me hold you a little longer, okay?"
