Entertainment: From Street Interviews to Global Stardom-Chapter 21 - The Studio is in Shock!
Chapter 21: The Studio is in Shock!
Everyone was chatting and laughing while having dinner. Meanwhile, Wu Jing didn’t forget about the promise he had made to Yang Fan. Seizing the right moment, he steered the conversation in a specific direction and said, “Hey, Yang Fan, who are you planning to interview on this business trip?”
Previously, although Director Li had permitted Yang Fan to create a feature on the 1960 Mountaineering Team during the recording session, that session was ultimately about the historical event and not specifically about the main cast.
Therefore, in a sense, the previous report didn’t count as fulfilling the task assigned by the station.
Now that the main cast members were all gathered, and it was a break, Wu Jing enthusiastically jumped in to create an opportunity for Yang Fan!
Zhang Ziyi immediately sat upright, putting on her most elegant and ladylike demeanor. “That goes without saying! Of course, he’s going to interview me. In The Climbers, I’m the lead actress. If he doesn’t interview me, then who else would he interview?”
“Like you’re the only lead in this film,” Wu Jing retorted immediately, straightening his clothes and sitting properly as if preparing himself for the interview.
“Hey, hey, hey! Are you guys just going to ignore me like that?” Zhang Yi spoke up, winking at Yang Fan. “Could it be that Yang Fan deliberately made this trip just to interview me, the award-winning actor Zhang Yi?”
He hoped Yang Fan would play along with his act.
Hu Ge cleared his throat and laughed. “I think Yang Fan should be here to interview me. After all, what can I say? I have the most male fans!”
“What does the number of male fans you have even have to do with whether or not you’re interviewed? If you ask me, all of you—one, two, three, four—are too old-school. The audience has seen enough of you.”
“If you ask me, Yang Fan must’ve come here for me. After all, I’m a representative of the new generation of talented actors. If he doesn’t interview me, then who else? Isn’t that right, Brother Yang Fan?” Jing Boran said as he raised his glass to toast Yang Fan.
Yang Fan smiled but didn’t say a word.
Director Li was having none of it. “Hey, hey, hey! You’re all overthinking this. Yang Fan came here to interview the cast of The Climbers. And who’s the director of The Climbers? Me! Naturally, Yang Fan should interview me first.”
“You all better wait for your turn!” Director Li declared confidently.
The assistant director looked around at everyone, then lowered his head and quietly ate his food. After all, it didn’t matter who got interviewed; it had nothing to do with him!
“Assistant Director, you say it. Who do you think Yang Fan is here to interview this time?”
As the debate reached an impasse and Yang Fan continued to smile silently, everyone turned their gazes towards the assistant director, who had been minding his own business.
The assistant director nearly choked on the beer he had just taken a sip of.
“What does this have to do with me?”
But with so many people staring at him—none of whom he could afford to offend—he couldn’t remain silent.
Cold sweat dripping from his forehead, the assistant director stammered, “I think… I think… I think he’s probably here to interview all of you, right? Isn’t that right, Mr. Yang Fan?”
The assistant director looked pitifully at Yang Fan, silently begging him to step in and save the situation.
The cast and the director exchanged knowing looks and collectively nodded at the assistant director, pleased with his answer.
Yang Fan grinned, stood up, and said, “That’s right. The station has indeed tasked me with interviewing as many people here as possible.”
“I just need to know if everyone is available for an interview right now,” Yang Fan said with a smile, seeking everyone’s input.
“Available, available, available! There’s no better time than now,” Wu Jing immediately chimed in.
Director Li shot the assistant director a meaningful look. “What are you waiting for? Hurry up and assist Yang Fan! Don’t you understand why you’re here at this dinner in the first place?”
The assistant director was stunned. “Wait, this is how it’s going to be?”
But with the director giving orders, what else could he do? Resigned, he had no choice but to use his status as the assistant director of a big-budget film to act as the assistant for a small-time TV host.
Sigh, rank truly does suppress a person!
Once the assistant director was in position, Yang Fan’s professional aura as a host kicked in. With a serious tone, he announced, “Our station’s interview questions are typically sourced from highly upvoted online comments.”
“Next, I’ll be representing the netizens and asking the main cast of The Climbers a few questions.”
“At the same time, I’d like to seek everyone’s opinion. Should we conduct this interview as a live broadcast or a pre-recorded session?” Yang Fan asked formally.
While an audio recording would suffice for the station’s needs, securing video footage would be highly beneficial for the station.
After all, in this era of new media, short video platforms and live streams were all the rage. Video content was far more impactful than audio alone.
The cast and director unanimously nodded, expressing no objections to a live broadcast.
Everyone present had the same thought: they wanted to win over Yang Fan. They were also well aware that plenty of others were trying to recruit Yang Fan as well. If they didn’t seize this chance to build some goodwill, their respective companies might lose out on future opportunities.

So naturally, whatever Yang Fan wanted, they would agree to.
But if it had been any other journalist—no, even if it had been a top-tier host from another TV station—there was no way they could have secured a live broadcast interview with this group.
For people of this caliber, live interviews were only done in conjunction with television variety shows.
There was absolutely no precedent for them agreeing to a direct live-streamed interview on a streaming platform. That would be beneath them.
However, since it was Yang Fan, they were more than willing.
“Alright, thank you all for your support. Please prepare yourselves while I contact the station to borrow the official live-streaming account. I’ll need just a moment!” Yang Fan said with a smile, then stepped aside to make a call.
In the station chief’s office, the atmosphere was tense, and the director’s phone rang.
Seeing the station chief’s grim expression, the director was so scared she almost wanted to throw the phone away.
Originally, she wanted to hang up and turn off the phone to avoid upsetting the station chief.
But as soon as she took out her phone, she saw Yang Fan’s caller ID.
The director hesitated for a moment and quickly handed the phone to the station chief, “Station Chief, it’s Yang Fan’s call. Should we answer it?”
“Why is he calling at this time? Could he be calling to resign?” Shi Lei swallowed nervously.
The station chief gritted his teeth and said, “Give me the phone, I’ll answer it!”
