Era of Magic and Martial Arts-Chapter 241 - 225: Avoidance Won’t Solve the Problem—See You Tonight
Tian Tao stared at Feng Mu’s face, which alternated between sinister and gentle expressions. Perhaps because he felt guilty, he suddenly found that face eerie and unnerving.
"His expressions changed so quickly, as if his face is a mask that can be kneaded at will. Screw that."
Tian Tao cursed inwardly, unwilling to admit his inner unease, his expression growing increasingly ferocious and angry.
But not towards Feng Mu. Instead, he suddenly erupted, grabbing Wang Cong by the collar. The action was as rough as yanking a dog’s leash, dragging him outside without any explanation.
As he walked out, he roared obscenities:
"Hurry up and clean the cremation room, this bloody, filthy corpse. Who’s it here for? Damn it, I’ve lost my appetite for the night."
Wang Cong was actually no longer afraid of Tian Tao, but he still obediently allowed himself to be dragged out. This was because he really didn’t want to be in the same room as Feng Mu for even a second longer.
"Wait a minute." Feng Mu called out to the two of them.
Tian Tao paused, turning his head with a volatile expression, while Wang Cong dared not turn, inwardly cursing his luck.
Feng Mu said calmly, "These deaths have left a bad taste in my heart. I don’t need to be on duty tonight, do I? I want to go home, take a hot shower, and change my mood to better welcome tomorrow."
Tian Tao snorted coldly, still angry as he left. Feng Mu indifferently watched Wang Cong being dragged away awkwardly, mumbling to himself in a voice only he could hear:
"Escaping won’t solve anything, Captain Wang Cong. See you tonight, hehe—"
The coldness that was faintly visible on Feng Mu’s face gradually dissipated, replaced by his signature, harmless, gentle smile.
He looked around at the group of prison guards, politely requesting:
"I apologize that these corpses affected the captain’s appetite. Please, help me burn them quickly."
Those prison guards usually treated Feng Mu as if he were invisible, never acknowledging his greetings. But today, faced with a polite and well-mannered Feng Mu, although their expressions weren’t great, they nodded in response.
Some even squeezed out a slightly friendly smile.
Feng Mu understood the reason for the change in their attitude towards him and was glad for their acceptance, convinced that their attitude would be even friendlier after tomorrow.
It didn’t take long. Almost as soon as Qin Liang finished writing an autopsy report for one body, the corresponding body was quickly cremated, the entire process efficient and orderly, demonstrating professional teamwork.
"Thank you all for your help. I’m fortunate not to have to work the night shift tonight. I would like to invite you all out for dinner to express my gratitude and apologies."
Standing on the immaculate floor of the cremation room, Feng Mu bowed slightly to the prison guards who had helped, his attitude sincere and earnest:
"Please, do me the honor of accepting my invitation and don’t refuse."
The group exchanged glances, but no one spoke up.
Feng Mu had anticipated this scenario long ago, and he was not surprised.
He smiled slightly, speaking in a lower, more magnetic voice:
"Also, regarding the [Bottom Elimination System] implemented by the director, I have some immature but relevant thoughts I would appreciate your valuable opinions on."
Every word of Feng Mu’s was sincere, his eyes full of hope, as if saying: Accepting my invitation is the beginning of our friendship.
"Since Officer Feng has so sincerely invited us, I will definitely be there on time tonight," said the first prison guard who smiled, breaking the deadlock.
With the first agreement, others quickly followed, one after another agreeing.
Feng Mu’s smile became increasingly bright and genuine as he watched everyone agree.
He turned his gaze to Qin Liang and warmly invited, "Forensic Doctor Qin, please join us tonight."
Qin Liang was momentarily stunned, instinctively wanting to refuse, but Feng Mu’s warm and determined look stopped him.
Feng Mu looked at Qin Liang smilingly, with a hint of jest in his voice:
"If you don’t grace us with your presence, Forensic Doctor Qin, I’ll have no choice but to visit you after the event tonight with supper. I recall your address is..."
Feng Mu recited Qin Liang’s address slowly and accurately, each word precise. Hearing this, Qin Liang felt a surge of warmth, nearly moved to tears.
He stared blankly at Feng Mu, taking a deep breath and said hoarsely, "With Officer Feng having such consideration, how can I refuse? I will definitely attend on time."
Stepping out of the chilly cremation room, holding a stack of autopsy reports tightly, Qin Liang walked heavily into Prison Director Qian Huan’s office.
Qian Huan was sitting in a large leather chair, his sharp gaze sweeping over Qin Liang’s figure before taking the reports handed through a narrow glass gap, his brow furrowed, examining them page by page.
Qin Liang waited patiently until Qian Huan finished reviewing all the reports.
He then pulled an empty hallucinogen bottle from his pocket and said solemnly, "Director Qian, I failed to accomplish the task you entrusted to me."
Qian Huan took the empty bottle, playing with it lightly between his fingers:
"Forensic Doctor Qin, it’s not your fault. I miscalculated. I didn’t expect Feng Mu to survive. I was shocked to learn about it."
Qian Huan lightly flicked the bottle, sending it in an elegant arc into the trash can, his expression strange:
"A pawn I didn’t consider important managed to carve a path through a heavy web of conspiracy and danger. Isn’t that interesting?"
Qin Liang remained silent, unsure whether it was interesting or not.
His mind was in a fog, filled with the image of Feng Mu accurately reciting his address, which made his spine tingle the more he thought about it.
Seeing Qin Liang silent, Qian Huan chuckled indifferently, talking to himself:
"Chang Wei and the others’ schemes, though not flawless or perfectly connected, were still cunning and sinister. From poisoning to tampering with the stun baton and bribing people around him to backstab—all these combined would usually leave an ordinary person utterly defeated."
Qian Huan paused, speaking thoughtfully, "Plus, my clandestine push, yet Feng Mu emerged unscathed. It can’t be mere luck. So, Forensic Doctor Qin, when do you think he first noticed the problem?"
"Exactly. Finding out my address wasn’t a spontaneous decision. So when did he start keeping an eye on me? But why would he target me, just a forensic doctor?" Qin Liang’s mind was filled with similar doubts.
