Eternal Life Starts from Tai Chi-Chapter 63: Just Wait for Death
Song Tianyu knew he was no match for Lü Zhenghai alone; his only choice was to put his life on the line.
As for Zhao Yuhai and Li Dayi, they weren’t faring well either. He could sense a great commotion from two other directions—fights between Inner Masters had broken out.
Clearly, Zhao Yuhai and Li Dayi had also been caught by members of the Cyan Yuan Sect and were now locked in a life-or-death struggle. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
And judging by Lü Zhenghai’s words, they were as good as dead.
For the Cyan Yuan Sect to have laid such a trap, they must have positioned experts to intercept them.
"You want to make me pay? You, a man I’ve already defeated? I crippled your arm back then, and I can kill you now."
"With one less Inner Refining Elder in Lingyu Palace, its destruction is one step closer. It’s a shame your Sect Leader, Qiu Gongyi, didn’t come out. It would have been perfect to kill you both at once and save some time."
"You’re waiting for reinforcements from the Celestial Sword Sect, aren’t you? A pity. Even if you waited a year, they wouldn’t come. You’re all going to die!"
Lü Zhenghai’s words were calculated to crush his spirit.
The Cyan Yuan Sect was well aware of the Three Major Sects’ plans. They had previously sent men to the Capital City of the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty for this very reason: to hire someone to prevent the Celestial Sword Sect from intervening.
Intervening across state lines would violate certain standing agreements. Once discovered, such an attempt would be doomed to fail.
Song Tianyu’s brow furrowed upon hearing this.
The Three Major Sects had received word from the Celestial Sword Sect. By all accounts, their reinforcements should have reached Qing State by now, but they hadn’t. The delay had been blamed on floods, but now it seemed things weren’t so simple.
’There must have been some secret deal,’ he thought. ’A deal that led to the Three Major Sects being abandoned.’
"Enough talk. It’s pointless. Allow me to send you on your way!"
"You should have died all those years ago. Consider yourself lucky for living this long. And don’t worry, in a little while, I’ll send the rest of Lingyu Palace down to keep you company. You won’t be lonely."
Lü Zhenghai said with a cold smirk.
His tone was absolute, as if he were stating a foregone conclusion.
"Lü Zhenghai, don’t think you can bait me for information. I may not live through this day, but if I die, you’re coming with me."
Song Tianyu’s resolve wavered. He could feel how dire the situation was, yet he was powerless to change it. His only recourse was to risk everything to take Lü Zhenghai down with him.
Lü Zhenghai struck first, each move a lethal blow aimed to kill.
Song Tianyu tried to counterattack, but Lü Zhenghai controlled the pace of the fight, forcing him into a weary defense.
A quarter-hour later, Lü Zhenghai glanced at a wound on his left arm, a smile spreading across his face.
Song Tianyu lay on the ground, lifeless.
The plan had gone off without a hitch.
’Lingyu Palace is nothing special after all,’ he mused. ’And I have Yang Chan to thank for the idea. I never would have thought of such a perfect plan otherwise.’
’The Three Major Sects... their time is up.’
With that thought, Lü Zhenghai took Song Tianyu’s corpse and departed.
After he had gone, something stirred.
’I have to report this to the Sect immediately. There can be no delay.’
A figure emerged from the ground and sprinted back toward Lingyu Palace. This person had mastered a special Breath Concealment Technique, which allowed them to seem like an inanimate object when hiding their presence.
This person was a disciple of the Three Major Sects, serving as a scout.
Song Tianyu had known he couldn’t outrun Lü Zhenghai. So he had led him here, deliberately provoking him into talking so that the hidden disciple could relay the information back to their sect. It was the last thing he could do.
And just as planned, Lü Zhenghai, in his moment of triumph, had revealed a great deal of information. As Song Tianyu died, he even named the culprit behind the Three Major Sects’ disastrous losses.
Long after the figure had vanished, Lü Zhenghai returned, having watched the scout retreat into the distance.
’I’ve fed you such important information. Don’t disappoint me.’
’It’s hard to fight a turtle that stays in its shell. So, you use bait to lure its head out, then chop it off with a single strike. That will finish you off for good.’
Lü Zhenghai watched the scout disappear and sneered to himself.
Lingyu Palace’s technique for Concealing Breath was indeed impressive. Unfortunately, the scout hadn’t completely managed to mimic an inanimate object. When he heard the "important" news, his presence had wavered just enough for Lü Zhenghai to detect him.
But he hadn’t killed him. This plan was too good to abandon; it could be used again.
He had mentioned Yang Chan on purpose, waiting for the Three Major Sects to seek revenge. Only a desire for vengeance would draw them out of the Mausoleum Mountain Range and give the Cyan Yuan Sect an opportunity to strike.
Lü Zhenghai was a man who would even use himself as bait; he certainly wouldn’t hesitate to use Yang Chan. His sole purpose for descending the mountain was to annihilate the Three Major Sects. The faster he could achieve that, by any means necessary, the better.
In fact, he had only told a partial truth.
While the Cyan Yuan Sect had hired someone to keep the Celestial Sword Sect occupied, it was only a temporary measure. They needed to eliminate the Three Major Sects as quickly as possible.
Letting the man from Lingyu Palace carry the message back was intended to make the Three Major Sects panic. And once they were desperate, they would be easier to deal with.
Of course, one thing he said was completely sincere: it truly was a pity the Sect Leaders of the Three Major Sects hadn’t come down the mountain as well. Otherwise, things would have been much simpler.
The Cyan Yuan Sect’s own Sect Leader, Liu Xuan, had also come. However, upon seeing that the Sect Leaders of the Three Major Sects were not present, he had held back. Lü Zhenghai found that a little disappointing.
But once that scout delivered his message, the Three Major Sects would surely be unable to sit still.
Lü Zhenghai left, and this time, he was truly gone.
「...」
In the T-shaped Room, Yang Chan was checking on the injured disciples when a sudden chill ran down his spine. He glanced outside; the wind had picked up.
"Junior Brother Sun, close that window. A few of these injured disciples had high fevers this morning. They shouldn’t be exposed to a draft, or their symptoms could flare up again."
Yang Chan said, looking over at Sun Qi Wu.
When he arrived at the T-shaped Room this morning, several of the severely injured disciples were running high fevers. It had taken him a long time to stabilize their conditions.
The body is weakened after severe injury, even for Official Disciples who have mastered Power. Fortunately, he had caught it early. A full morning of work had stabilized them, but they weren’t out of the woods yet.
He needed to observe them for another day to see if the fevers returned. Because of this, Yang Chan had postponed preparing their next batch of medicine until tomorrow, just in case any other complications arose.
When Yang Chan reported the situation to Xu Gaocen, he had readily agreed. Their primary mission, after all, was to treat the Cyan Yuan Sect’s wounded disciples.
These men had shed their blood for the Cyan Yuan Sect; as loyal disciples, they could not be abandoned.
"Yes, Senior Brother Yang."
Sun Qi Wu immediately went to close the window.
The weather wasn’t cold, which was why they’d had the window open for fresh air. But if Yang Chan said to close it, he would obey. Yang Chan was the Pharmacist; he knew best.
When it came to treating the injured, their job as Pharmacist’s Assistants was to help, not to question.
Besides, after witnessing Yang Chan’s medical skills firsthand, none of them would dream of doubting him. Hadn’t he saved several disciples who were on the brink of death?
