Eternal Life: Talent Grows with Age-Chapter 214 - 149: Celestial Spirit Body, Journey to the Spirit Realm!
When Lu Chang’sheng personally came to notify Yu Hai, Xu Zhuqing, and the other two, he was pretty surprised himself.
Xu Zhuqing wasn’t too unexpected—after all, for her to step into the Innate Martial Artist realm, having a Spirit Root talent was quite likely.
But the other two were a different story.
"Qin Wan has a real knack for calculations. I suppose that’s how her Spirit Root talent shows itself," Zhuqing said with a smile.
Knowing her close friend had Spirit Root talent made her sigh in relief.
As for Yu Hai, he was still in a dreamlike daze at the moment.
"What’s my strong suit?" he asked, face full of confusion and delight.
If Guan Hongxiu hadn’t already passed out drunk nearby, she probably would’ve leaped up to the ceiling with joy.
Normally, at Guan Hongxiu’s age, you’re not supposed to get a taste of Immortal Wine.
If you’re too old—unless you have an exceptional Spirit Root talent—there’s no way the Zhu Family would show any interest in you.
But, thanks to Lu Chang’sheng pulling some strings, Guan Hongxiu got in to take the test.
Zhu Er just turned a blind eye to it—it was one more person, no big deal. He didn’t need to embarrass Lu Chang’sheng or the others over something so small.
Right now, he was actually glad he hadn’t stopped them.
Because Yu Hai’s talent turned out to be even better than anyone had imagined.
"This fellow cultivator’s talent is quite remarkable—a rare kind of Spiritual Body."
The Immortal Wine could only roughly ascertain whether someone had a Spirit Root talent or not—it couldn’t tell how good or bad that talent was.
Even so, on the first day, only about ten people made it through drinking the Immortal Wine without passing out.
Zhu Er called them up and used the Spiritual Eye Technique to inspect them.
Five had low-grade Spirit Roots, four had Grade D inferior Spirit Roots—including Xu Zhuqing and Qin Wan.
But Yu Hai, the last one, made Zhu Er absolutely ecstatic.
"What kind of Spiritual Body?"
Lu Chang’sheng asked.
Zhu Er originally wanted to keep it to himself, but after a moment’s thought decided to lay it all out.
Otherwise, once they got to the Spirit Realm, Yu Hai would find out sooner or later, and keeping it secret would only sow resentment.
"If I’m not mistaken, this is a Celestial Spirit Body."
"A Spiritual Body is a special kind of Spirit Root. People with a Spiritual Body have an extra advantage when practicing certain compatible Immortal Techniques."
"From what I know, just like Spirit Roots, Spiritual Bodies also come in Grades A, B, C, and D. The Celestial Spirit Body is middle-tier, Grade C."
As he said this, he grinned at Yu Hai. "Fellow Yu Hai, the Zhu Family knows a thing or two about Celestial Spirit Bodies. We also have Immortal Techniques that suit your style. How about I arrange things for you when the time comes?"
Lu Chang’sheng could tell right away that Zhu Er was tempted.
He felt a bit happy for Yu Hai, too.
All these years, he’d lent Yu Hai plenty of help. And, knowing Yu Hai, he’d return the favor in the Spirit Realm.
His investment was finally paying off.
······
The next night, Yu Hai held a banquet at Fenghua Building.
It was supposed to be that very night, but since Guan Hongxiu hadn’t woken up yet, they pushed it to the following evening.
There weren’t many people—just their closest friends.
"Unbelievable—truly unbelievable. Looks like the Guan Family’s finally gonna make its name."
At the feast, Guan Hongxiu was red-faced and beaming with unconcealed joy.
"I’ve got it all figured out now. From this day on, Hai and I split the duties—he’ll cultivate and support the family, I’ll marry and have kids. Wouldn’t want to waste that Celestial Spirit Body of his, after all!"
Guan Hongxiu slapped the table for emphasis.
Before, his sole aim was simply to keep the Guan family line going. But now, he was hoping future generations might have even more Spiritual Bodies show up.
"Dragons have dragons, phoenixes have phoenixes, and rats, well, they’re born to dig holes. Look at Chang’sheng—his kids all turn out talented, nothing like the average folk. So our old Guan Family’s chances of birthing a Spiritual Body are real high!"
As he spoke, Guan Hongxiu was already dreaming of a future where the Spirit Realm was crawling with Guan Family descendants blessed with Spiritual Bodies.
"It’s my Spiritual Body, what’s that got to do with you?" Yu Hai couldn’t help himself.
Why did it feel more and more like it was his old man that tested out as the Spiritual Body, not him?
"What do you mean? You’re my flesh and blood!"
Guan Hongxiu shot him a glare.
Years of living under old Guan’s high-handedness, Yu Hai had to admit, the old man kind of had a point.
Still, Yu Hai’s words made Guan Hongxiu realize he might’ve been getting ahead of himself.
After all, he was already a generation removed—not as good as Yu Hai carrying on the bloodline himself.
So he added, "And you can’t slack off—when we get to the Spirit Realm, you see if those fairy maidens can handle your blessings."
Xu Zhuqing, Qin Wan, and the other ladies at the table looked a bit awkward.
Now that he knew his son had top-notch Spirit Root talent—destined to become an Immortal—Guan Hongxiu finally understood why Yu Hai had worked so hard for so long, yet hadn’t produced any heirs.
Lu Chang’sheng cleared his throat, cutting Guan Hongxiu off.
"Say, if your teacher were still around, maybe she would’ve had a Spirit Root too?" Daoist Ruyi asked, looking a little lost as she glanced at triumphant Guan Hongxiu.
Lu Chang’sheng fell into silence for a moment.
He knew it was possible, but not likely.
Still, some things are better left unsaid; letting Daoist Ruyi hang onto a little hope wouldn’t hurt.
"Back then, we all sought immortality together. Now, there’s hardly anyone left."
At parting, Guan Hongxiu sighed.
Hong Yuan had lost his life; Kong Yuzhen, who originally stayed with the Kong Family at Jinghua Prefecture, had disappeared after Evil Cultivators stirred up trouble.
Cai Daoren, too, was still missing with no news at all.
Only he and Daoist Ruyi remained.
"The departed are gone as flowing water, Elder Guan—my condolences," Lu Chang’sheng said softly.
Guan Hongxiu nodded in reply.
