Evolution Online: I Can Fuse With All Things-Chapter 50: World-Ending Quest Rejection
Chapter 50: World-Ending Quest Rejection
Lucien thought he saw wrong for a moment. But it was there as he saw it.
Quest Failure: Destruction of the Real World.
’What is that supposed to be? A joke?’
Such a joke was very expensive. How could a quest failure in a game destroy the real world? It was a very funny joke.
But then again, maybe he was overthinking it—maybe the game’s perspective of the real world. And there could be a fake world. The Cradle World could be a fake world for all he knew.
So, he decided to exhale and not overthink what he was seeing.
Gayanna’s eyes, however, were on him, waiting for a response. She was slightly taller than he was, so her eyes were leveled a bit lower.
Lucien, pressed for a response by her gaze, eventually—after exhaling—looked at her.
"Can I have maybe more time to think about this?"
Gayanna frowned and glared at him.
"You are going to refuse?"
"What? No?!"
"Then what are you going to think about? I didn’t ask you to marry me, did I?"
Lucien’s face reddened.
"What?! No! I mean, this is fate-of-the-world level matter. I can’t just respond to you instantly. I have to find my research, know how strong the gods are and what I will be getting myself into. Besides, I also need to know if you are really that reliable. I can’t get scammed twice."
Gayanna let out a hollow chuckle, then she massaged the bridge of her nose.
"You need to know if I am reliable..."
She exhaled heavily through her mouth.
"I just told you, I am the first elf to sense and master mana. I am the first to reach the pinnacle of what a Mage should be."
Lucien looked at her, a slightly doubting light in his eyes.
"And yet you need my help to fight a god."
Gayanna stared at him blankly and raised a brow.
"A god? Seems you are mistaken about the scale of this. It is going to be a world-ending battle. Once we take one down, others will ally to take us down. So it’s not going to be a god."
Lucien raised his brows. He looked at the armor floating next to her and looked at her too.
"Yep. I have my answer. No thanks. I am not interested. I am sure you will find someone else stronger than me and use the person."
[You have refused the Hidden Quest]
Gayanna frowned.
"This is a quest for power even for you! I can help you become the greatest!!"
"Sounds like a deal with the devil. I’m in one already—I don’t want to be in another one."
Gayanna’s frown grew fiercer.
"You. Cannot. Turn. Me. Down."
"Lady Elf, looks like you have rejection issues. I can and will turn you down. I am not really obsessive about power. I just want to enjoy the game really."
Gayanna’s face boiled. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"Exactly! So accept the offer!"
[You have received a Hidden Quest]
"No! What you are offering me is to sell my soul for power! Why do I need to go after the gods if they don’t come after me!"
[You have refused the Hidden Quest]
"Gods! Are you a fool! They will come after YOU!! THEY WILL COME AFTER ALL OF YOU!!"
Lucien looked at her with blank and unbelieving eyes. After a moment of silence, he responded dryly.
"Sounds like you are just crashing out and desperate to me."
Gayanna pulled her hair, gritting her teeth. The radiance of her fine and calm demeanor was lost, replaced by that of a beautiful toxic girlfriend.
"You can’t refuse the quest."
[You have received a Hidden Quest]
"Yes I can and I have."
[You have refused the Hidden Quest]
Lucien paused and suddenly leaned his face towards Gayanna. She glared back at him.
"You just said Quest now, didn’t you?"
Gayanna narrowed her eyes.
"Quest? Yeah, and what is wrong with that?"
Lucien stared suspiciously for a few seconds and averted his gaze.
"Nothing."
’Isn’t it strange that an NPC is using the word quest?’
Maybe he was overthinking it?
He looked at her again.
"Anyways, I cannot accept the quest."
Gayanna nodded.
"Alright."
Lucien furrowed his brows at her.
"Alright?"
She shrugged and raised her hand towards the armor. Lucien watched the marble chest plate disintegrate into sparks of light and form a bracelet around her wrist.
Then she said:
"It is alright. I shouldn’t force this on you."
Lucien slowly nodded, keenly observing her eyes. He stared at her a bit more and she innocently blinked, staring back at him.
He shook his head with dry laughter.
"Yeah, no, I don’t buy that."
Gayanna shrugged with a delighted smile.
"I didn’t sell that either. But you will have to leave this place though. I know a secret passageway—I can help you there. But it’s fine, since you don’t need my help, you will find a way to face the crushing expectations of a hundred elves waiting out there for you, and somehow tell the kid that handed you a flower, ’Hey buddy, I’m checking out, not interested in leading your shitty kingdom, because your shitty papas wanna destroy the world.’"
Lucien looked at her with an expression of pale terror.
"You... monster."
Gayanna raised her chin, shadows falling over part of her face.
"You made me do it."
Lucien lowered his head for a moment.
"I’d rather just..."
[You cannot log out of this scenario]
Lucien’s eyes widened.
’What?!’
Gayanna tilted her head, looking at him with a foxy light glinting in her eyes.
A drop of sweat trailed down Lucien’s cheek.
"Wh—what d–did you do?"
Gayanna shrugged with her slender shoulders.
"What did I do? What are you talking about?"
Lucien’s voice was caught in his throat. How was he supposed to explain to an NPC that he couldn’t log out? Why did he even feel like she was lying? Something suddenly didn’t feel right about the elf lady.
Gayanna sighed.
"It’s not that hard really. You can just say no and I’ll go back to the Moonshade Pact, and tell them I have no business with you anymore."
Lucien looked at her, almost crying.
"This woman... is a witch."
