Exiled!? Ha! I have An Infinite Space-Chapter 55 -
The rain continued to fall outside as the tension inside the cabin grew heavier with every passing second, and not long after Su Long was laid down properly, hurried footsteps sounded at the door before a village physician was ushered inside by the Head Guard, his clothes damp from the storm but his expression calm and focused.
The physician moved straight to Su Long’s side, setting his bag down carefully as he glanced at her pale face and the bandage already wrapped around her injured head, then he lifted his hand slightly and spoke in a firm but respectful tone, asking everyone in the room to step outside so he could examine her properly without disturbance.
Fu Sheng hesitated immediately.
He stood where he was, his eyes fixed on Su Long’s still face, his body tense as though leaving her side was something he simply could not do, no matter the reason.
"Fu Sheng," Madame Fu said softly, placing a gentle hand on his arm, her voice filled with exhaustion and quiet reassurance, "listen to the physician, he needs space to help her, and she will be fine."
Fu Sheng’s jaw tightened as he looked down at Su Long once more, his fingers curling slightly before he finally nodded, allowing his mother to guide him away as the rest of the family slowly stepped outside the room, closing the door behind them and leaving the physician to his work.
Time passed slowly.
No one spoke much.
Some sat down, others stood silently, and a few simply leaned against the walls, listening to the rain and waiting, every sound making their hearts jump.
Fu Li sat close to Madame Fu, her hands clenched tightly in her lap, her eyes never once leaving the closed door, while Fu Sheng stood nearby, his posture rigid, his thoughts clearly far from calm.
At last, the door opened.
The physician stepped out, wiping his hands calmly as he looked at the waiting family.
"She has only fainted from exhaustion," he said clearly, his voice steady and reassuring, "the injury on her head is not severe, and I have already treated it properly, she only needs rest, warmth, and enough food, and she will recover fully."
The words washed over them like relief.
Madame Fu’s shoulders sagged as she let out a shaky breath, Fu Li covered her mouth as tears of relief finally spilled over, and even Fu Sheng’s tense expression softened slightly for the first time since they had returned.
"Thank you," Madame Fu said quickly, bowing her head slightly in gratitude.
The physician nodded and gathered his things, reminding them once more to let Su Long rest, before taking his leave and disappearing back into the rainy night.
When the family finally went back inside the room, they found Su Long lying quietly on the bed, her head neatly bandaged, her breathing slow and even, her face no longer as pale as before but still clearly tired, and for a moment, no one moved, afraid to disturb her sleep.
Fu Sheng stood closest, looking down at her with a mixture of relief and lingering fear, while the others remained quietly behind him.
Soon after, the Head Guard cleared his throat lightly and spoke up, saying that it was already very late and everyone should return to their rooms for the night, as there was nothing more that could be done until morning.
"We will take our leave now, It’s already late.. everyone should head back inside, It’s already late" he added, his voice weary, "the guards are also exhausted."
With that, he turned and left with his men, their footsteps fading into the distance as the cabin slowly settled into silence.
One by one, the family members began to enter and they all laid on the blankets on the ground.. leaving the bed for Su Long.
Fu Sheng sat beside the head as he held her hand, afraid she would disappear if he let go.. soon he fell asleep and that was the moment Su Long opened her eyes.
Su Long’s eyes opened slowly, and the moment awareness returned, the pain in her head and body struck her without warning, spreading heavily through her like a dull, crushing weight that made even breathing feel uncomfortable.
A soft hiss escaped her lips.
"...Ah..."
Her brows tightened instantly as she fought the throbbing ache, the memory of the fall and the cold rain creeping back into her mind like an unwelcome reminder.
For a few seconds, she did not move.
She simply lay there, staring upward, allowing her vision to adjust to the dim lantern light glowing faintly above the room.
Then she felt it.
A firm grip around her hand, Su Long frowned faintly as her eyes drifted downward.
Fu Sheng sat beside the bed, his head lowered slightly, his posture slumped in exhaustion as sleep had finally claimed him. Yet even in sleep, his fingers remained tightly wrapped around her hand, his hold was strong.
Su Long blinked slowly.
"...Seriously?"
She tried to shift slightly but pain shot through her head instantly.
Su Long froze again, another soft hiss slipping from her lips.
Fu Sheng stirred faintly at the movement, his fingers tightening around her hand even more despite still being asleep. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Su Long stared at him in disbelief.
"You are gripping me like I am going to run away," she murmured weakly.
The events of the night slowly began flooding back into her thoughts.
Fu Sheng jumping down after her without hesitation.
Her expression softened faintly.
A quiet sigh escaped her lips.
Carefully, she lifted her gaze and looked toward the side of the room.
There, Fu Li lay sleeping on the blankets, squeezed tightly between Madame Fu, Master Fu, and her brothers like a frightened child seeking comfort. Even in sleep, her face looked uneasy, her brows slightly drawn together as though the fear still lingered deep within her dreams.
Su Long shook her head lightly.
"...Drama queen."
But beneath the sarcasm, relief settled quietly in her chest.
At least Fu Li was safe.
At least everyone was alive.
For a brief moment, the cabin felt peaceful.
The rain outside had softened into a distant rhythm, tapping gently against the roof, the earlier chaos replaced now by silence and exhausted sleep.
Then suddenly,
FLASH.
A faint blue glow appeared before her eyes.
Su Long stiffened instantly.
"...Oh, not again."
A translucent blue screen slowly materialized in the air directly before her, glowing softly within the darkness of the room.
[ SYSTEM ACTIVATED ]
Su Long’s eyelid twitched faintly.
"You decided to show up now?" she whispered dryly, her voice low so as not to wake anyone.
The screen flickered calmly.
[ HOST STATUS: STABLE ]
[ VITALITY LEVEL: LOW ]
[ RECOVERY IN PROGRESS ]
Su Long stared at it.
"...How very reassuring."
Su Long’s eyes narrowed slightly as she stared at the glowing blue screen floating calmly before her, the faint light reflecting softly in her tired gaze.
"Oh, so you finally decided to show up," she whispered under her breath, her voice filled with irritation rather than relief. "Why are you here now?"
The screen flickered quietly.
"You call yourself my system," she continued, her tone sharpening despite the exhaustion weighing heavily on her body, "yet when I was down there, when I was literally falling into a muddy death trap, where exactly were you?"
Silence.
The blue interface remained steady.
"You could not even save me."
A faint pulse of light crossed the screen.
Then —
[ HOST MISUNDERSTANDING DETECTED ]
Su Long’s brow twitched instantly.
"Misunderstanding?"
[ SYSTEM RESPONSE: INTERVENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED ]
Her eyes widened slightly.
"...Excuse me?"
[ EVEN IF HOST HAD DIED, REINSTALLATION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED ]
Su Long blinked.
For a brief moment, she simply stared.
"...Reinstallation?"
The screen flickered again.
[ HOST CURRENTLY POSSESSES FIVE ACTIVE LIVES ]
The words settled slowly.
Then, Su Long’s brows rose sharply.
"...I have what?"
[ FIVE ACTIVE LIVES CONFIRMED ]
The irritation on her face was immediately replaced by visible confusion.
She blinked once.
Then twice.
Then slowly pushed herself up slightly before the pain in her head forced her back down with a quiet hiss.
"...Hold on."
Her gaze locked onto the screen.
"You mean to tell me," she whispered, her voice now filled with disbelief, "that I could actually die..."
A pause.
"...and just come back?"
[ CORRECT ]
Su Long stared.
Her mind struggled to process the information.
"...Why are you only telling me this now?"
The screen pulsed faintly.
[ INFORMATION UNLOCKED AFTER CONDITION FULFILLMENT ]
Su Long frowned deeply.
"...Condition?"
For a brief second, the screen remained silent.
Then suddenly,
[ HIDDEN SPECIAL MISSION COMPLETED ]
Su Long’s eyes narrowed.
"...Hidden?"
The interface brightened slightly, glowing stronger within the dim room.
[ HOST ACTION: SAVING FU LI AT PERSONAL RISK ]
[ RESULT: MISSION SUCCESSFUL ]
Su Long froze.
Her breathing slowed slightly.
"...Wait."
Her gaze sharpened.
"You are saying..."
The screen responded immediately.
[ HOST UNKNOWINGLY COMPLETED SPECIAL HIDDEN OBJECTIVE ]
Su Long’s eyelid twitched faintly.
"...Unknowingly?"
[ REWARDS UNLOCKED ]
Su Long stared at the glowing screen, the earlier irritation slowly melting into curiosity.
"...Rewards?"
The blue light flickered softly.
[ REWARD 1: FARMING SKILLS ]
[ REWARD 2: TRADE SKILL ]
[ REWARD 3: RECOVERY SKILL ]
Su Long’s eyes widened slightly.
"...Well now..."
The dull ache in her body suddenly felt far less important.
