Exploring Technology in a Wizard World-Chapter 647 - 645: The Only Voice
Chapter 647: Chapter 645: The Only Voice
Before long.
"Squeak," the door to the council hall opened, and Franklin led Kunman Casol from the Main Continent into the room.
Glancing over, one could see that Kunman Casol looked to be in his thirties, around 1.7 meters tall, slightly overweight, dressed in an extremely well-fitting Noble’s suit. He was impeccably groomed from head to toe, barely distinguishable from a true Noble. A habitual smile hung on his face; he appeared amiable and friendly to everyone he looked at. Yet, there was something disingenuous about him, as if his face were merely a mask behind which hid many unspeakable schemes and malice—such people are colloquially known... as smiling tigers.
Upon nearing the hall, before Muse could speak, Casol took the initiative to extend his greetings, looking towards Muse seated at the center, "Muse Housekeeper, it is a pleasure to meet you."
"Is it?" Muse tilted her head slightly, casting a glance at Casol, her eyes lingering on his face for a few seconds, seemingly indifferent, "I heard you insisted on seeing me. Judging by your current state, it seems you have quite a lot prepared to discuss with me."
"Should I not?" Casol shrugged his shoulders, maintaining his smile, "After all, it has been a long time since we last met; naturally, there is much to talk about."
Having said this, Casol’s tone shifted, becoming serious, and he spoke, "Do you know, Muse Housekeeper, when I heard from the Main Continent that you had botched things up on the East Coast and needed my support, I was truly surprised. After all, I had always thought highly of your ability, unlike trash like Ji Burlen..."
"Hmph." Muse snorted, her expression frosty.
Casol chuckled, "Muse Housekeeper, please don’t misunderstand. I am just speaking about the matter at hand. If I have offended you, my apologies, apologies."
"Just speaking about the matter at hand?" Muse’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Alright then, I too will speak about the matter at hand. You seem different from when I last saw you. Have you stuffed some junk into your body again to increase your already pathetically weak strength?"
If Casol’s words were indirect mockery, Muse’s were outright insults.
Upon hearing this, Casol’s face unavoidably changed, but he quickly regained his smiling composure and asked dryly, "Muse Housekeeper, what do you mean by this?"
"What do I mean?" Muse said, standing up from her seat and staring directly at Casol, "I assume you wanted to see me precisely to showcase your newly-learned ability. Well then, I’ll give you the chance; fight me and show me what you have learned."
"Are you sure, Muse Housekeeper?" Casol’s smile was sallow as he spoke, "I should remind you that my newly learned ability happens to somewhat counteract yours. Ah, it was not specifically learned to target you; it just coincidentally suppresses your ability.
Moreover, you seem to have been injured and not fully recovered. One of your eyes is blind, and your strength has greatly diminished. If I fight you now and win, wouldn’t it seem a bit like bullying?"
"Heh." Muse’s expression turned icy as she steadily approached Casol, "We’ll talk about that after you win!" With those words, a formidable aura erupted from within her, locking onto Casol tightly.
Casol felt it and his expression turned solemn as he looked at Muse, "Since Muse Housekeeper says so, I have no choice but to oblige. Let me demonstrate my latest ability, your guidance is appreciated!"
Having finished speaking, Casol clenched his fists tightly and "Poof," a thick mist of crimson fog burst forth from the pores of his body.
The blood-red fog spread quickly, enveloping Casol’s body in the blink of an eye, preventing others from seeing what he was doing.
Gradually, from within the depths of the blood-red fog, roars of giant beasts could be heard, coupled with the terrifying fluctuations of Energy.
People in the hall quickly retreated from the area covered by the blood-red mist, darting to the corners, watching Muse with uncertainty.
At this moment, Muse watched the blood-red mist, her face calm, a hint of disdain in her tranquility.
Just before the dreadful energy was released from the blood-red mist, Muse spoke, "So it’s another bloodline modification, I see. You really do intend to take this path of the weak to the bitter end, don’t you? Saying it counteracts me? I’m curious to see what form of countering it is!"
With the final word spoken, Muse fiercely stomped on the ground beneath her feet, shattering it extensively, and like a meteor, she brutally crashed into the blood-red mist.
Within the blood-red mist, purple Energy roared out, but with a single punch from Muse, the energy completely dissipated. She then plowed through the interior of the blood-red mist and burst forth.
"Snap!"
On the other side of the blood-red mist, Muse landed and stood firm, holding something in her hand that looked like leather. She rubbed it and then tossed it aside to the ground like garbage.
Behind her, the blood-red mist rapidly dissipated, vanishing in the blink of an eye to reveal Casol’s body.
At this moment, Casol’s body trembled, his skin covered with countless wounds that wept fresh blood—dark purple blood—like the mouths of infants.
But this was not the most terrifying part; Casol’s hands tightly covered his face. Beneath his fingers was a mess of blood and flesh, as Muse had forcefully ripped off his entire face.
"My... my face..." Casol called out with a trembling voice.
Muse turned around, glanced at Casol, and spoke softly, "So, it turns out that I really did rip off your face. I thought it was just a mask you were wearing, considering how fake your smile was. Heh, here’s some friendly advice: when you’ve got the time, practice smiling properly, make it less disgusting. Otherwise, even if it grows back, it won’t last long."
"You..." Casol clenched his teeth, glaring at Muse as if he was ready to fight to the death in humiliation.
Muse, however, was not intimidated in the slightest, looking straight back at Casol, "What, do you have a problem? Want to show me more of that incredibly weak ability of yours? Let me remind you, the first time was a mere exchange. If there is a second time, that would be an offense, and then I won’t hold back."
Casol’s body shuddered, and his demeanor suddenly fell. He looked at Muse with flickering eyes and said, "How could this be, how could this be... Muse Housekeeper, you... you misunderstand."
"Let’s hope so." Muse said, looking at Casol, "Alright, you’ve seen me as you wanted to, and you’ve shown your ability as well. Now go down. Next, Franklin will tell you how to arrange the people and things you brought over."
After a pause, Muse continued, "Casol, I know when you brought people from the Main Continent to support me here on the East Coast, you must have thought I was in a dire situation. You might have thought that once here, you could turn the tables and lead me. Such a pity, your ambition is not small, but your strength is too weak; you are destined to be a laughingstock, just like before. Let me tell you, only one voice is allowed here, mine. When you come here, you either obey, or... I make you obey. Understand?"
Casol hesitated for a moment and then slowly bowed his head, "Yes."
"Good, go on then." Muse nodded her head in satisfaction, then waved her hand.
Franklin stepped out dutifully and led Casol toward the hall’s exit.
Casol obediently followed Franklin, ready to leave. But as he reached the door, he suddenly stopped, as if struck by a thought, and turned back to look at Muse, "Oh, Muse Housekeeper, there is one thing I have to tell you."
"What is it?"
"This time, in coming over to support, I brought along a special item."
"Hmm? What item?"
"A Strange Species."
"Strange Species?!" Muse’s eyebrows raised.
