Saturday, just the day after Novier had gifted both brothers with their newly forged weapons, Aiden had also received the battle suits he had placed an order for.

Although he wondered how the sketchy website even managed to get various goods delivered across to many users of the platform within the academy without getting caught, he decided not to ponder too much over it.

With that out of his mind, he had informed his brother about it and following this, both he and Flynn had checked out the item in Aiden’s room, ensuring that every aspect of the suit was fully functional.

The sleek black battle suits, which were at the pinnacle of current modern futuristic science, style and functionality, had everything from the retractable helmets, to titanium-reinforced chestplates, sleekly curved shoulder guards, form-fitting gloves for a firm grip on weapons, slimly-fitted leg greaves and even boots with shock-absorbing soles to minimize noise and vibration during traversal.

On the inside of the battle suits were a network of thin wires almost completely invisible to the naked eyes, all as a result of Nano-Tech.

This tech, helped to regenerate broken or torn parts of the suit, absorb the impact of shock from external attacks while reducing damage taken by its wearer and even regulating the temperature of the wearer’s body in response to the environment they found themselves in.

In addition to all that was the suit’s ability to connect to other rankers wearing it over a fairly wide range and even monitor their vital signals through the integrated small rectangular panel present on the suit’s wrist, akin to a smartwatch.

This small panel also served as a storage space for the battle suit itself, morphing itself onto the wearer’s hand like a small, slim-fitted silver bracelet that would instantly reassume full form onto their body whenever it was needed.

This set of features, helped to provide a sense of awareness, portability and relief to the rankers in a situation where their fellow rankers were located far away from them in the fissure.

Checking once again that everything was functional, Aiden and Flynn nodded their heads in satisfaction while keeping each suit which had now morphed onto their hands like a form-fitting bracelet, into their spatial accessories.

After doing this, they both left for the VR rooms in the Virtual Simulation District with the intent to train once again, all in preparation for tomorrow, Sunday, the day they would clear the fissure.

Sunday morning, the first thing Aiden and Flynn had done they moment they had woken up was to take of their mana cuffs.

Immediately they had done so, they felt a literal weight lifted off of their beings and their bodies were as light as feather.

With that out of the way, they both quickly did the basics of early morning personal hygiene, grabbed something to eat from the freezer and as quietly as possible, headed out of the main doors of their dorm immediately after without alerting the others.

Now, presently standing in front of the serene lake that housed a fissure underneath, Aiden and Flynn stared at it for a few minutes, the early morning sun slowly casting a soft golden glow on its crystal clear waters.

"Well, this is it I guess" Flynn calmly said to his brother, a bit of anxiety in his voice.

"We’ll be fine… right?" Aiden replied to his brother, a similar hint of anxiety in his own voice too.

"Hey! Don’t raise a red flag man" Flynn commented while giving Aiden a slight harmless jab.

"Haha. My bad bro" Aiden responded with a small laughter to his brother’s gesture.

Flynn in return, had a slight smile grace his features as he and his brother once again stood in silence while taking in the calm atmosphere of the lake.

Right now, a few similar thoughts were running through their heads.

In the novel, it was never explained which monsters came out of the fissure break. Just that a D-tier ranked fissure break did happen and a bunch of cadets and workers died.

If they had at least known the monsters coming out of the fissure, they could have narrowed down how the environment of the fissure would be to a certain extent.

But they didn’t have that information and when coupled with the fact they couldn’t fully trust the novel’s contents anymore due to the butterfly effect of some of their actions and a few other reasons they had begun to understand was beyond their reasoning, they were, to say the least, quite wary of the fissure they were about to delve into.

But, since the academy didn’t take their anonymous letters and warnings to heed, they had no other choice but to try and clear the fissure themselves, all in an effort to prevent the possible mass deaths of cadets on the day of the annual banquet.

"Fuuu…"

Letting out a simultaneous deep breath of air, Aiden and Flynn retrieved their battle suit bracelets, donned it on their beings and without a moment wasted, dived straight into the lake.

Without even bothering to admire the view of beautiful underwater and lively aquatic life of the crystal clear lake that was full of various colored palettes of fishes and vibrant iridescent-colored plants and reefs, the two brothers swam straight towards the small alcove the fissure was hidden in.

Immediately they got to the obsidian-black vertical slit that looked like it had a few dimly lit stars on its surface, Flynn and Aiden found themselves sucked into it one after another with an invisible wave of energy.

-Squelch…

Landing his foot on what seemed to be soft ground, Flynn found himself immediately assaulted by a wave of frostbiting, bone-chilling cold.

His extremities, despite being covered by the entirety of his battle suit, felt completely numbed in an instant while his breaths felt like icy, frosty needles poking his throat as white vapor was released from his mouth.

Quickly, the battle suit’s features kicked in as he felt the retractable helmet cover the entirety of his head in an instant, all while feeling the rest of his body having a warm gradual flow of heat coursing through it.

In just over a few seconds after that happened, Flynn stood still, gradually recovering from the sudden situation he had being assaulted by.

After completely stabilizing, the youth then spoke up, his voice ever-so-slightly muffled by the helmet on his head.

"How welcoming…"

Expecting to hear his brother speak in response to his comment, Flynn waited for a few seconds, expecting Aiden’s reply.

However, after not hearing anything for about three seconds, Flynn turned around, only to realize that his brother was not there.

’Wait… Don’t tell me it’s that kind of fissure?’ he rhetorically questioned in an irritated tone.

"Well shit" Flynn cursed upon realizing what had happened.

Fissures, well at least a few among them, occasionally had the tendency to shuffle rankers around their environments from the moment they stepped into it.

It was, to be fair, one of the most hated things by delvers because it usually caused an instant divide in their forces and basically required them to survive alone until they could meet up with their fellow rankers.

Looking around to check if his brother was within vicinity, all that Flynn could see for miles on end was the unforgiving and utterly disorienting white abyss caused by the current snowstorm that was happening.

"Dammit. Total lack of visibility…" Flynn cursed again.

Watching as the snow and fog from the visor of the battle suit’s helmet gradually cleared up by itself, all thanks to the many features of the battle suit, Flynn slightly arched his head downwards to check the rectangular panel on his wrist.

In response to his gesture, the panel lighted up and showed a small holographic projection.

Checking that his brother’s vital signals were alright, Flynn tried to contact him but the connection didn’t go through because apparently, the distance was way too far for it to land a solid connection.

’Well, at least I know he’s safe’ Flynn inwardly commented while staring ahead at the white snowy abyss before him.

"Gotta keep moving forward then" he said as he slowly began to trudge through the snowy landscape.

Activating both his bloodlust and his mana sense at the exact same time, all in an effort to deter monsters from recklessly attacking him while also giving himself a sixth sense in this snowy blizzard, Flynn’s lively aquamarine-green eyes dulled considerably.

’We’ll meet each other if we keep heading for the boss monster anyway’ the youth calmly thought to himself, the shock-absorbing soles of his boots creating soft, satisfying squelches as he slowly kept his traversal.

-Squelch…

-Squelch…

Despite the visibility been next to zero in this snowy abyss, Flynn had correctly surmised that eventually, he would run into a monster very soon and so, he had to be completely prepared.

Not even a few seconds after that thought had crossed his mind again, a wide gaping maw shot out of the white abyss, its razor sharp teeth intent on chomping down on Flynn’s head.

Without even so much as a change in expression, Flynn sidestepped to the left, retrieved his newly forged katana in an instant and in one simultaneously fluid motion, beheaded the creature that looked like a weird fusion of an immensely large salamander and the white hairiness of a polar bear.

Blue blood sprayed everywhere, staining the snow-covered floor and Flynn’s visor as he indifferently watched the Polar Newt lay dead on the ground, unable to understand how he just had its life snuffed out in an instant.

’This… is… curious…’ Flynn mused to himself, his apathetic eyes staring at the dead creature below him.

With a very slight frown that shouldn’t even be gracing his face considering the state he was in, Flynn pulled out the mana fissure-level reader from his spatial bracelet while staring at it.

After watching the readings on the small rectangular, insanely slim, tablet-like device for about a minute, Flynn let out another curse, but this time, it was so indifferent due to the state he was in that it didn’t sound anything like the way it was supposed to.

"Fucking hell…"
