The favor I’d asked for was simple enough to a being who wore Celia’s face but wasn’t Celia. Her gaze had been calm, distant, a void stretching behind those familiar cheerful eyes.

"I’ll bring them," she’d said cheerfully, her tone light and almost childlike. "But there will be a cost."

"Another Date," I said calmly, without hesitation.

She smiled, "Yes another date"

Her words didn’t matter. Whatever the cost was, I’d decided it wasn’t mine to pay today.

And now, as the mist thickened around me, wrapping the battlefield in a shroud of uncertainty, they were here. My team. My anchors in this nightmare.

I glanced at each of them as they emerged from the veil of gray. Jess, the embodiment of flame and fury, her great sword resting on her shoulder, burning faintly. Lovia, a calm wind emanating around her body like a silent storm. Uvan, electricity sparking around his figure. And Celia, frost curling off her fingertips, her piercing gaze unshaken.

We didn’t need to speak.

In that moment, we all moved.

The air screamed as metal clashed.

Jess swung her greatsword, flames licking the blade as she met the one of the Hands. It’s void sword collided with a deafening clang, the force shaking the ground beneath us. Jess’s smirk was a flame itself, fierce and destructive.

She stepped back, her movements fluid, vanishing into the mist as the Hand’s void sword cut another deadly arc through the empty air.

Before the Hand could adjust, the mist parted briefly.

Crack!

A sharp burst of electrical energy sliced through the haze, striking with accuracy. Uvan emerged, his blade emanating lightning energy, glowing faintly in the dim light. His deep brown eyes locked onto the distracted Hand as his attack cut through the void armor with ease.

Boom!

The impact tore through the Hand’s midsection, sending pitch-dark void liquid pooling onto the muddy ground. Its armor buckled, its black larvae worm exposed and annihilated.

One gone.

Three left.

The remaining Hands shifted, their movements synchronized as they formed a defensive circle. Their pitch dark void energy pulsed in unison, a black aura wrapping around them like a living shield.

But defenses meant nothing here. Not in this mist.

A cold wind stirred. Not natural wind.. something darker, more insidious. It crawled through the mist, unnoticed until it was too late.

One of the Hands hesitated, its armored leg catching on something unseen. A faint crack echoed. Frost had crept up its limb, locking it in place.

The others turned, their void swords raised, but they, too, found themselves ensnared. Frost coated their armor, spreading with a quiet chaos that spoke of no escape.

And then..

Swoosh!

A piercing blue arrow tore through the mist, its energy trailing an untamed vortex energy in its wake. It struck one of the Hands square in the chest.

Boom!

The explosion shattered the Hand into fragments of ice and remnants of void, scattering the pieces across the battlefield.

Another gone.

Two left.

The remaining Hands didn’t hesitate. They unleashed their full power, their pitch-black void energy surging outward in a violent wave. The battlefield trembled beneath their wrath.

But something was wrong.

The frost clung to them, defying their efforts to break free. The more energy they released, the more the frost seemed to grow, spreading across their armor, seeping into their forms.

They tried to stop, but their bodies betrayed them.

The frost had crept into their very essence.

One of the Hands staggered, black void liquid spilling from its helmet as its form trembled. The others faltered, their movements sluggish, their void energy faltering as the frost tightened its grip.

The Frost Corruption was complete.

Their lives, so intertwined with the void, couldn’t withstand the frost’s unyielding embrace.

They knelt, the frost overtaking them as their energy faded.

And as their vision blurred, the darkness closing in on them, I couldn’t help but stare, their pitch black armored body dissolving into nothingness... like they had never existed...

I sighed, Finally...

****

The air was unnervingly still after the last of the Hands had fallen. The mist that had suffocated the battlefield began to dissipate, revealing the aftermath: fragmented ice, scorched earth, and faint traces of void liquid seeping into the cracks.

The familiar chime of a notification echoed in my mind.

I let the message linger before dismissing it. Victory, hollow as ever, weighed on my shoulders.

"There wasn’t any vital imprint," Celia said, her voice calm yet distant. Her deep blue eyes lingered on the fading void-stains before shifting to me. The light caught her gaze, a mixture of frustration and something else I couldn’t quite place.

I nodded slightly, meeting her stare. She didn’t look away. Instead, she squared her shoulders, planting her hands firmly on her hips.

"Young Sir," she began, each word deliberate, her blue eyes locking onto mine. "Could you explain what all of this is? What about your promise regarding.."

I raised a hand in defeat before it even started. "I didn’t expect this myself," I said, forcing a smile that I hoped was more convincing than it felt.

Her eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I thought she might press further. Instead, she sighed heavily, the tension in her shoulders easing slightly. She raised her right hand, summoning her blade with a swirl of icy energy. The cold radiated outward, biting at the exposed skin on my neck.

She tapped the flat of the blade lightly against my head.

"I forgive you this once," she said, puffing her cheeks slightly in mock annoyance. Her blade shimmered before vanishing into the air. "Only once," she added, her voice softer now, almost playful.

Before I could respond, Jess, Uvan, and Lovia joined us. Jess was the first to speak, holding something in her armored hand... a writhing black larvae worm, its segmented body pulsating faintly with void energy.

"So," Jess said, tilting her head, "what are we supposed to do with these?"

I glanced at the worm and then at the rest of my team. "You’ll have to swallow it," I said evenly. "Just like you did before any of these began. It’s the only replacement for vital imprints now."

Jess grimaced but nodded. Uvan and Lovia followed suit, each materializing their own black larvae worms. The sight of them was unsettling, their dark, glossy forms writhing as though aware of their fate. Looking at them made my stomach twist, but I kept my expression neutral as I myself have already swallowed one... three to be exact when I got here.

Celia held hers at arm’s length, her face a mask of subtle revulsion. She muttered something under her breath... something about it being "just like last time"... before turning to me.

Her gaze shifted to me, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Help me count down?" she asked, her tone lighter now, though the slight tension in her shoulders betrayed her unease.

I cleared my throat, motioning toward the others with a slight tilt of my head. "Look."

She followed my gesture, her eyes widening slightly as she realized the others had already swallowed their black larvae worms.

I couldn’t help the small grin that tugged at my lips, though I quickly straightened my face when her gaze snapped back to me. I don’t want another lecturing right now.

With a resigned sigh, Celia raised the worm to her lips and swallowed.

The change was immediate.

A surge of icy energy radiated from her, spreading outward in a wave that coated the ground in frost. The air grew impossibly cold, each breath a visible cloud of vapor. For a moment, the world seemed to hold its breath. Then, just as suddenly, the chill receded, leaving only silence in its wake.

"Now that it’s done, we need to..."

I stopped mid-sentence as a strange sensation gripped me.

The blood soaked muddy ground beneath my feet dissolved into nothingness, and the figures of my team.. Celia, Jess, Uvan, Lovia... vanished like smoke on the wind.

I was alone.

The air grew heavy, oppressive. Each breath felt like inhaling shards of glass, the weight of unseen grief pressing against my chest. My vision blurred, the edges of the world darkening as a deep, guttural hum filled the air.

My detection screamed, dragging my attention to the horizon.

The Tower of Rebirth.

It loomed in the distance, a monolithic aberration that defied all logic. Its jagged spires clawed at the ashen sky, the structure pulsating with a crimson glow that seemed to seep into the earth below. A beam of raw energy shot downward from its base, carving into the ground with relentless intensity.

The air around the tower shimmered, warped by its unnatural heat.

And then it trembled.

Two massive pillars erupted from the ground on either side of the tower, their surfaces writhing with veins of void energy. They stretched upward, reaching far beyond the tower’s highest spires.

The tower began to move.

Du!... Du!... Du!

The sound was mechanical, rhythmic, like the grinding of ancient gears. The structure twisted and contorted, stone giving way to flesh, veins pulsating with dark energy.

Gru!... Gru!... Pruuu! Kung!

The noises grew louder, more unsettling. The Tower of Rebirth was no longer a tower.

It was a figure.

Bound by the two massive void chains, the towering figure stood in the tower’s place. Its hair was a pale, sickly gold, its body an amalgamation of ashen black and tarnished gold. The air around it rippled, the oppressive grieving energy forcing me to my knees.
