Chapter 162: I’m Going to Drive You Crazy, Princess ~

Kaiser slowly moved away from the dance floor, letting Isabella join a group of ladies near the columns. He crossed the crowd with nonchalance, nodding lightly to those who met his gaze. Muffled laughter and the clinking of crystal formed a continuous sound haze. When he reached a tall table, he delicately picked up a wine glass.

He brought the glass to his lips, took a long sip, then scanned the grand room with his eyes.

A few minutes earlier, he had still been chatting with a couple of elves, a more or less ordinary conversation. Then suddenly, a light breeze swept through the room from a half-open window. One of the large curtains lifted, letting in a thin thread of pale moonlight. It revealed a silhouette standing apart on the balcony, out of sight.

Kaiser immediately recognized Princess Olivia. She stood perfectly still, back to the room. Her black silk dress absorbed almost all the light, leaving only the discreet silver threads embroidered on the sleeves and hem to shine. Her hair cascaded in a thick braid down to the small of her back.

He approached slowly, glass still in hand, his footsteps drowned out by the music. When he was close enough to be heard without raising his voice, he spoke.

"How is this possible? A princess of your rank, forced to contemplate the moon alone? Is the court so lacking in suitable company?"

Olivia did not turn immediately. Only her shoulders, barely visible in the shadow, stiffened in surprise.

"Leave me alone, Lord Paragon. Your company is no more suitable than any other, and certainly less desired." Her voice was low.

Kaiser stopped two steps away from her, leaning casually against the balustrade. He then extended the wine glass in her direction.

"A little red to soften the harshness of the night?"

She finally turned. Her eyes fixed on him without warmth.

"I don’t want it."

A faint smile brushed Kaiser’s lips.

"Probably because of nostalgia, I’ve particularly liked red wine ever since~."

"..."

He shrugged with a gesture feigning indifference and delicately set the glass on the balcony railing, right next to Olivia’s hand.

"In truth, I came to talk business. A proposal, to be precise."

Olivia narrowed her eyes slightly. The moonlight sharpened the clean, implacable line of her jaw and the severe curve of her brows.

"Business? What exactly do you want to talk about?"

Kaiser slipped his hands into his pockets, adopting a relaxed posture. Then he moved closer.

"It’s about the Pendragon Espadon. They discovered that a rank S rift has opened in a small barony near the Donoghan duchy. Their scouts saw ancient traces. Somewhere in that breach lies the sword of the first Pendragon."

Olivia’s breath quickened ever so slightly. For an instant, her gaze left Kaiser’s to rest on the wine glass placed beside her.

"If you recover it, you change everything. You’ll have your father’s recognition, and at the same time control over the Pendragons; you could even sell it on the black market to the dark elves in exchange for exclusive artifacts. The possibilities are... immense."

Olivia remained silent for a long moment. The noise of the ball was like a distant tide. Her fingers, still resting on the stone, almost brushed the stem of the glass. Finally, she raised her eyes to Kaiser again. Her expression had returned to an icy mask, but in her silver pupils now shone the cold, calculating gleam of interest.

"Your sources. Are they reliable? And this rank S rift... Do you have maps? Detailed reports on that area of Tenebris?"

A more genuine smile stretched Kaiser’s lips. He had just cast the hook. The negotiation could now truly begin.

"And what do you want in return?" she finally asked, her voice cold.

Kaiser took a step toward her, reducing the space between them without touching her.

"You," he declared, leaving little room for interpretation.

She instinctively stepped back half a pace until her back gently bumped the balcony railing. "You can dream. I have plenty of other ways to get what I want."

He tilted his head slightly, a thin smile on his lips. "Really? Are you talking about that peasant, Zane Kristen?"

Olivia clenched her teeth. Her cheeks took on a faintly rosy hue, but she did not lower her eyes.

Kaiser advanced again, and this time she felt it fully. Despite all her will, her breathing grew shorter, betraying her composure.

"You can fight as much as you want, Olivia," he murmured, his voice charming. "But no one..." He leaned in further, erasing almost all distance. Their faces were now separated by only a few centimeters.

Panicked, Olivia raised a hand to push him away. Her fingers met his chest. But the pressure she exerted remained weak. Her heart was pounding too loudly in her ears.

"...no one can drive you crazy the way I can," he let her hear.

His lips first brushed the sensitive spot just below her earlobe. Then a firmer kiss landed. It trailed down the curve of her nape, making her shiver. Olivia closed her eyes for a moment, overwhelmed.

She then felt his large hands slide along her hips, then lower. His fingers closed over her buttocks with firm, inexorable possession, pulling her even closer to him.

A violent and sudden wave of heat invaded her neck and cheeks, making her blush flagrantly.

The aphrodisiac of desire that she had intended to give Kaiser had literally turned against her, rendering her completely vulnerable to his advances.

Then Kaiser moved upward. His gaze captured hers for an instant before his mouth claimed her lips. A deep, unrestrained kiss that swept away her last defenses. He nibbled her lower lip, and he gave her a small slap on the buttocks. A muffled moan escaped from the depths of her throat despite herself.

Her hands, still placed on his chest, no longer pushed him away. They almost clung to the fabric, fingers clenched, as she let herself be carried away by the whirlwind of pleasure.

When suddenly she pushed him away, this time with a convulsive, unexpected force. Caught off guard, Kaiser stepped back one pace.

Olivia jerked her head up, trying to regain composure, to gather the scattered pieces of her control. Her slightly swollen lips remained parted; her breathing was short and hoarse. A thin strand of hair stuck to her damp temple.

"That... that’s enough," she stammered, voice choked. She averted her gaze, unable to meet his. "I... I have to go."

She turned on her heel without waiting for a reply, without another word. Her black dress rippled behind her as she strode quickly toward the doors at the far end of the ballroom.

Kaiser, motionless, made no attempt to follow her. He simply watched her walk away. A satisfied smile curled the corner of his lips.

"You shouldn’t have tried to poison me... I’m going to drive you crazy, princess ~"
