Extra's Harem: Invincibility Starts with Marriage and lots of Children-Chapter 92 - The Author is an Asshole
'Author, you are an asshole.'
While moving through the corridor and cursing that author who wrote this story and dropped it at the crucial plot point, I really felt how burdensome it had become due to this messier world having so many death flags for Kyle.
Even though he was one of the major characters, the difficulties in his path that should have boosted his strength would not come my way.
Unlike him, who would have exponentially grown, for me, those were death flags.
For the major characters, the upcoming situations where normal people could die were simply stepping stones or canon events for them to become stronger, but for me, Leon, without having a proper physique and bloodline, I was not going to advance further.
Instead of passing through the events, those events would pass through me, meaning clear death.
[Host, where are you heading?]
The system voice was the last thing I wanted to hear. Right now, I was heading towards the princess's chamber.
Now that she was not there, I had the chance to understand exactly what those entities called ghosts were trying to convey to me last night by literally making me chill to death.
Indeed, I would be the first person who was so excited to talk with ghosts, yet this was the very reason I was cursing that author, knowing well that I shouldn't ignore this feeling as it could be part of the plot, and I may miss something big.
Given the domain's strength, I did not have to fear about some entities coming within 13 meters of me.
Though I needed to do something about that cold.
'Hey, reaper, don't you have a way to repel ghosts?' Though Valeriana was the last person I wanted help from, given my life was at stake, I just put aside my ego and inquired.
I was stuck in this world to begin with due to this woman who did not even apologize.
Yet, given our lives were tied to each other, I could not even harm her.
Who knows, if I held her in my fist and punched her, she might die due to having her small body and kill me too.
:: Zzz-zzz-zz ::
'...Now that I notice,' I halted in my path as I heard the mild breathing of her and the sound of her sleep reaching my ears.
I recalled how since this morning she had been less active than usual while ranting over things.
She even acted strange when entering the isolation room in which Aleriana was training, then afterwards fell asleep—something which was confusing, but not that I could do anything until I got my hands on the progeny stone.
[Host, I think the ghosts were not trying to harm you but were contacting you.]
'Do you know how to speak the language of ghosts?' I inquired, referring to the origin of systems that were made of spirits to begin with, but given how wonderful the system had proved itself until now, I already knew the answer.
[No.]
'Bingo.'
As expected, I was up to the mark, and the system definitely performed as per my expectations of it.
Completely useless.
"Greetings, my Lord."
Before I could continue moving, I heard a voice coming from a maid who had her head bowed in her usual professional way. Yet, I stood there looking just above her head, where a window of her stats was hovering.
[Mei Lianhua, Serpent Bloodline, Venomous Jade Physique, 120 years of cultivation, Eclipsing Qi, Early 5th layer Master.]
'Huh?' Standing there, while looking towards the hovering stat and clearly towards a maid whose head was lowered, I felt instead of the stat, I was looking towards a red death flag.
'What are these people doing here?' Though I did not remember any character by that name, my eyes were focused on Eclipsing Qi, which, just like the special ones possessed by the Exorcism Sect and Ghost Sect, had a very strange ability to hide its user's overall cultivation strength.
Though I definitely wouldn't have cared as much as now to consider her death flag if it was used by the Intelligence Guild or Assassin Sect from Azure Flame Kingdom, but the issue was that this particular Qi was used by every nation other than Azure Flame Kingdom.
In conclusion, in front of me stood a spy from another kingdom, coincidentally encountering me out of all the people in the royal family and at that, within the Princess's palace, when she was away.
'Hm, should I...' Narrowing my gaze, I thought about getting rid of her. But suddenly, a thought crossed my mind: given her presence here had something to do with Valeriana.
And now that we were married, it was natural that her problem would be mine.
So, I wanted to solve this problem in a different way.
But of course, not at the risk of my life, prompting me to take out the ring belonging to one of those members of the Exorcism Sect as I called her out.
"Lift your head and take out an artifact from this ring," I ordered, throwing the ring which she caught with both hands. Looking between me and the ring, she was clearly confused.
As I observed her reaction, I thought of a way to potentially trap this woman in some place or stop her until Aleriana came back.
And in the worst-case scenario, I could just kill her.
"I don't understand—" She tried to bargain, feeling confused, but I interrupted.
"Are you dumb! Dirty commoner! Just take out the damn artifact from it!" I yelled, visibly causing her to flinch as she stumbled back, taking a step back with my intentions.
I was clearly trying to see the level of calmness she had in case her mind was strong enough, and given how she did not keep her composure, it was clear that she did have intel about me either.
Her reaction, given her identity as a spy, was of surprise—something not expected from a spy—as I clearly acted unlike what she most probably had received data about from the Information Guild, making me feel her unexpected perspective of me as I glared at her.
"Y-yes," with hesitation in her eyes, she took out a small broom-like artifact with a stick and white cloth at its other end, appearing like those from horror movies held by shamans to fend off evil spirits.
'She is much more useful than Prista.' Clearly seeing her taking out an artifact in a single try, unlike Prista, I stretched my hand to grab both the artifact and the ring, clearly not expecting anything initially, as my real aim was for this woman to imbue her internal energy within the ring so that her energy signature got recorded in it, which I could use to track her down with the help of Olea.
After all, the ghost sect's Qi had a special advantage where they could feel the energy signatures of others much more clearly than others.
Well, of course, that was plan B, as for plan C, was to kill this woman if she attacked, leaving me to start plan A first, which was simply called—Catch the rat in the trap.
"Useless piece of shit! You are fired once I wake up again!" I yelled before turning in anger, my eyes narrowing and feet continuing but suddenly I halted.
Realization dawned on me as I looked back toward the maid, who was clearly surprised and taken aback by my extreme behavior.
Yet, ignoring her, I thought, 'No, she could not be here for the progeny stone, right?'
