Extra's Path: The Eternal Frost Monarch-Chapter 44: First Incident (8)
Noah fell from the terrace.
His body twisted mid-air. He gathered mana around his feet.
Just below him was a huge panel on which the name of the shop was written.
He landed on the edge of the panel, then jumped from it and landed on the street. His landing sent a sharp pain through his back because of the hit he had taken just a few seconds ago.
Noah didn’t even look up and started to run with all his strength.
Mana enforced his movements, making him faster. He ran faster than ever. It was a run for his life. The man would come behind him at any time.
He held the spear tightly, being ready for an attack at any time.
Mana started to move towards the weapon, covering it with a blue glow.
Petrick had also followed him. He jumped from the terrace, running behind Noah.
Just then, with unbelievable speed, Petrick came behind him. He was holding daggers in both hands. He swung the dagger in his right hand. A sharp black slash shot out from the dagger, going towards Noah.
Noah, who had already sensed Petrick coming from behind, spun on his feet and swung his spear with all his might. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
The dark slash crashed heavily against his spear.
But Noah didn’t try to put much force into blocking it. Rather, he deliberately used just enough strength to not get injured. The slash was strong, and its impact sent Noah flying back a few meters. Noah rolled on the ground and got up instantly.
The man was already upon him.
Spear met dagger.
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
Noah fought with everything he had, while Petrick, with a smile on his face, casually parried his attacks as if he was just playing with him.
Petrick moved smoothly, his daggers flashing again and again, aiming for Noah’s neck, ribs, and thighs. Every attack was precise and deadly.
Noah blocked one dagger with his spear shaft and quickly stepped back to avoid the second dagger that sliced through the air where his stomach had been just a moment ago.
Each of Petrick’s strikes sent tremors through his body.
’Fuck! Even though he is using someone else’s body... someone who is so weak... why are his attacks so strong?’ Noah gritted his teeth as his body continued to ache in pain.
Just then, ice suddenly formed around Petrick’s one leg, freezing it to the ground for a few seconds.
Noah didn’t waste that opportunity.
He held his spear only in his right hand and thrust it straight toward Petrick’s heart.
Petrick immediately crossed one dagger in front of his chest and blocked the spear.
But that was not Noah’s real attack.
Noah’s free hand moved at blinding speed as a dagger made of ice appeared in his left hand. He slashed it toward Petrick’s face.
Petrick tilted his head slightly and blocked the ice dagger just in time with his other dagger.
Clang!
Their weapons locked for a brief moment. Petrick looked at Noah from a very close distance and smirked.
"You are quite amazing at using ice," Petrick said calmly. "How did you create ice without using any spell?" he asked curiously. "You are not too strong... but still you do know how to fight... to survive."
Noah didn’t reply. Instead, he suddenly kicked Petrick in the stomach and jumped back to create distance.
The ice dagger in his hand shattered into small particles.
Petrick slid back a step but didn’t lose his balance.
Noah immediately slammed the butt of his spear on the ground.
Mana shot from his legs towards the place where Petrick was standing.
Several sharp ice spikes shot out from the ground toward Petrick.
But Petrick jumped sideways and spun in the air, easily avoiding them. The spikes pierced the ground where he had been standing just a moment ago.
The moment he landed, he dashed toward Noah again at terrifying speed.
Noah barely managed to raise his spear in time.
Clang!
Petrick’s dagger collided with the spear, and he immediately followed with another slash from the other hand.
Noah twisted his body and avoided it by a hair’s breadth, but the dagger still cut his sleeve and left a deep cut on his arm.
Blood came out.
"Arrrghh!" he screamed in pain.
Noah jumped back again, breathing heavily now, blood streaming down from the cut.
Petrick, on the other hand, looked completely relaxed. He slowly walked toward Noah, spinning one dagger in his hand.
"You are running, blocking, and creating openings... You are not fighting to kill me," Petrick said with a grin. "You are fighting to survive... but you told me... try killing you... if I can. So I will do it."
Noah tightened his grip on his spear but said nothing.
’Just like I thought... the villains from novels and games really talk unnecessarily a lot.’
His mana slowly circulated through his body again, gathering in his legs and arms.
’He is too fast... too experienced... I can’t beat him in direct combat... but... I am getting closer.’
A smile appeared on his face.
What Noah wanted to do was bring Petrick toward the place where he and the others were supposed to meet.
Soon they would be there and help him.
’Also, hope Damien and others had killed the monster by now....then it will be more easy to kill him.’
Just then Petrick suddenly disappeared from his spot.
Noah’s eyes widened.
’Where?’
He instantly raised his spear. As Petrick appeared on front of him.
Clang!!!
The impact was so strong that Noah’s hands shook. Immediately after the clash, Petrick kicked Noah in the stomach with intense force.
Bang!
Noah’s body arched like a bow, and he was thrown back again, sliding across the street and leaving a long mark on the ground.
He coughed and forced himself to stand up again, holding his spear tightly.
Blood came out from his mouth as he could taste the iron in it.
Petrick slowly walked toward him again, smiling.
"Run more," Petrick said. "I like hunting more than killing."
Noah smiled. Despite the situation he was in, he was starting to enjoy it.
"Let’s fight!"
’Just a little more... I need to hold for a while. ’
With a smile, he dashed forward once again.
