Extra's Path To Demon King-Chapter 22: Countered
Chapter 22: Countered
Axel added, "I don't think there is a way to have a clear conversation with anyone and convince them to work together here, only when fighting together and showing the other contestants that it's possible to beat that, would the others join in instead of trying to escape."
Crow rebuked, "So, you want us three to start fighting that thing?"
Axel nodded, "Yes, its not like were going to die, the examiner's will not let that happen and if we continue to all run like this, everyone will slowly be eliminated. I also think we receive individual evaluations based on contributions."
"While the Examiner did say to survive, think about it? They are not looking for someone who can run away the best; rather, only by confronting the orc can we survive the longest. There's also the fact that they won't put something absolutely impossible for the test, even though it does seem impossible."
Viper stated in slight wonder, "How do you even know so much?"
Axel sighed, "No, I don't. Just think about it with a calm mind, it's not too hard to figure out."

Crow thought for a moment, and it seemed about right. So, they ended up agreeing to it.
Most of the students were running away, while some other were like them analyzing the movements of the orc and thinking about the best approach. There were weapons stacked on the side of the walls, the trio picked three weapons each.
Axel grabbed a sword, Crow grabbed a spear, and Viper grabbed a bow. All three immediately dashed towards the orc, Viper kept firing one arrow after another while keeping a minimum amount of distance. Most of the participants were still panicked, it had only been two minutes since they entered the arena.
Crow rotated his spear and jumped high in the sky as he aimed for the monsters head, the orc noticed that someone was aiming to attack instead of simply running away. It became furious at that and swung its Axe at the puny human.
Crow rotated his body and barely blocked the spear with it, and he was flung away. Thankfully, he was able to block the blow in a way that it didn't hurt him too much. Axel, at that exact moment when the orc was focused on the crow, he slid beneath the almost 1-meter-tall orc and slashed at its joints with his full strength.
A deep cut appeared on its joints, the orc howled in pain loudly. The audience did not miss that feat and cheered loudly in response, which shook the entire colosseum in a wave of excited frenzy.
Axel exclaimed in joy, 'Damn, it seems I have underestimated the advantage of having a demon bloodline inside my body. But even then it doesn't seem easy.'
Viper continued to fire one arrow after another without missing an opportunity, but the skin of the orc was too tough to be pierced by such arrows. Crow did not miss the opportunity created by Salazar as he threw his spear right at the belly of the creature. But the spear simply left a deep scratch on its body and nothing more.
Axel shouted towards his companions, "Attack its hands, we need to make it lose its weapon."
They both understood the intention of Salazar as they started targeting the right hand of the orc as it continued to swing its hammer. The monster was mostly targeting Axel as it delivered the deepest cut on its leg, which made its movement less agile.
Seeing that three people were fighting off the orc. All the other participants became astonished at that scene. Although those three didn't manage to harm the orc, they were indeed able to keep it at bay from chasing them and eliminating the other contestants.
Most of the smart ones understood the situation after they calmed down. They joined the battle against the giant, figuring out that their individual evaluations would depend on their contribution to the fight with the orc.
While some kept waiting thinking that they would deliver the final blow and get the highest evaluation with the lowest effort by playing smart. More and more people began to join the fight as the trio found more rooms to breathe. Axel slowly let the other people do more attacking and took a backseat on the fight as he began to think about the next approaches.
It was better to let the others wear it out a bit, after all, he knew that many others were like him, who were waiting for the chance to deliver the final blow and take the biggest credit. Axel snickered,
'Unless the orc is at its last leg, no one but me has enough physical strength to kill it.'
As for the reason he befriended Crow and Viper is because they seem quite useful. Its impossible for him to kill it alone, even with his advantage, so he also needed some help. Crow and Viper were looking at Axel from different corners, waiting to see what he would do.
They didn't trust Salazar blindly, they were also using him. They both would gladly steal the kill from Salazar when the moment is right. Axel also knew that obviously. It was but a paper alliance between the three of them made only for benefit.
Axel signaled towards them to join the fight again, but he was the first one to go forward and the orc didn't fail to notice him. The monster targeted him again, it seems they are able to mark individuals by their scent. He wasn't worried about it.
The orc wasn't too creative when it came to its battle style. It simply kept swinging its large axe around mindlessly while often throwing a punch here and there, it was simply a brutish way of battle that uses only its strength and nothing more.
Axel studied its attack pattern carefully and made attack in between its punches and swings, slowly lots of cuts appeared on various parts of its body. Its leg had become more sluggish. Everyone also noticed one thing by now was that, Only Salazar's attacks were able to hurt it properly, other attacks simply left some scratches at best.
All the others did their best in fighting in a way that helps Salazar maximize the amount of damage dealt to it, since the orc was still quite vigorous. The moment the orc is close to death, they wouldn't hesitate to go for the kill themselves.
Axel continued his relentless assault while keeping eye on the surroundings, the orc was losing its vigor continuously. He tried to attack its wounded joint again, but the sword was simply unable to cut through its bone. It was too tough. So, Axel could only wear it out.
However, there was a sudden shift in the against the orc all of a sudden. Viper was attacking with his arrows from afar, while the arrows were unable to pierce the skin of the Orc, it did continue to annoy it nonetheless.
There was a change in the behavior of the orc for the first time. It pulled its arm backwards and threw its large axe right at the archer, without even waiting to see if it hit the target or not, it stomped its feet on the ground, which almost made the arena shake. The shaking of the ground made everyone lose their balance for a moment. In that window, the Orc kicked Crow and a few other individuals who were enough to be labeled as troublesome by the creature.
Only Axel was able to get out of its frenzied attacks, but it almost seemed like the Orc did not target him in the first place. It was eliminating everyone else, Viper got hit by the axe, Crow was kicked in the gut, and sent flying. There were a few others who he did not know the name of were also taken out by the Orc; everyone else in the arena who were not injured moved backward to the edges in fear, everyone understood that the bastard wasn't as foolish as it showed itself to be.
Only Axel was left who was capable of fighting it. The orc turned its head and looked at Axel with a smile through its red eyes. It again let out a deranged laughter.
The entire audience became tense at that sight, people were enjoying that everyone was working together and even dealing damages to that unbeatable green monster. But it seemed like the orc had cornered everyone in just one tactic. Axel cursed in his mind for believing that the orc was stupid.
While the tension in the colosseum grew more and more, Gareth was sitting in a private chamber, there were a few more Examiner's like him where all the information was being gathered and reviewed under The head Examiner's supervision, who was a 4th phase Seeker.
Gareth eventually asked, "Sir, may I know who that boy Salazar is? He is performing exceptionally well, especially his physical strength, it's quite monstrous to say the least."
The head examiner waited for a moment and said, "Since you all are oath-bound to not reveal any information to anyone outside, and your memories related to any private information are going to be erased afterwards, I don't mind saying it. Codename Salazar is the son of a Low Grade family who operates the 'Obsidian Trade'. He is Daniel Nomrad's son, Axel Nomrad."
Gareth exclaimed in shock, "You mean the grandson of Damien Nomrad and the son of the former alchemy genius Daniel Nomrad?"
"Ah, I suppose that line explains his identity better," answered the Head Examiner.
And everyone gasped at that revelation. Damien Nomrad was by far the best Runecaster in the history of the Suncrest kingdom, even the whole of humanity revered him highly, and he was respected by all in general. While his son Daniel Nomrad was one of the most talented alchemists who had the potential to 5th phase but he seems stuck for many years as a 3rd phase, for unknown reasons.
