Extra's Path To Demon King-Chapter 66: The Show is About To Begin
Chapter 66: The Show is About To Begin
Axel’s friends were slightly embarrassed at that sight, and Emma huffed,
"This is why I don’t like coming soon, or watching from the audience."
Ezekiel nodded, "Sigh, its always embarrassing that from 1st to 3rd circle fights, the rune team is almost guaranteed to be the last always."
Axel chuckled and said calmly, "Well in 1st to 3rd circle Runecasters are only weapon engraver’s, whether we like it or not, it’s like putting a blacksmith to fight against a swordsmen, A blacksmith may create a weapon masterfully but one who can use it to its full extent is a swordsmen, it’s expected that the blacksmith doesn’t stand a chance."
"After advancing to the 4th circle, things improve highly upon creating your runic matrix artifact, which you can use to land attacks, then advancing to the 5th circle and embedding 2nd level runic language into your polygon circle, they write runes in the air itself," iterated Axel.
Jason added, "But it is when the runecaster becomes the 7th circle is the true power is revealed, standing toe to toe against even the strongest ’Sages’ and ’Arcanists’ without much difficulty."
Suddenly, someone else from the audience interjected, "Oh, you guys seem awfully confident in your high-level combatants, but that doesn’t wash away the rune towers always promising shameful performance in low and mid-ranking categories?"
The man spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear. Many of them became furious at that insulting remark, but the words spoken were the truth nonetheless. There was the clear insignia of the sage tower on his clothes, and he was hiding his level; the man was a 4th circle sage and a powerful one at that. Axel could peer through it easily.
The man’s arrogance wasn’t unfounded, if there was one tower that could almost unanimously be agreed as the strongest, it would indeed be the sage tower. Which is why mages from the Sage Tower were always arrogant, but they are strong enough to back up that arrogance nonetheless.
Just as Emma was about to reply with a snarky remark of her own, Axel stopped her, then said evenly with a slight smile to the person, "May I ask who you might be?"
"Vin from the Sage tower, 4th circle mage," declared the person proudly.
Axel chuckled. It seems the person wasn’t actually hiding his level and said, "Ashborn, Runic tower, 3rd circle mage."
"I wonder if Sir Vin is interested in making a small bet?"
Vin asked with interest, "Oh, what kind of bet?"
"A bet that in all the 3rd, 4th, and 5th circle categories of team fight’s The rune tower’s teams shall win," announced Axel.
The moment everyone heard that, a deafening silence permeated through the air, then the one named Vin burst out laughing as it was the biggest joke ever, even Emma rebuked him angrily about what he was doing out of nowhere, many in the audience shook their head’s in disappointment looking at Axel as if he was crazy or something.
While others laughed at him. But Axel didn’t care. Vin asked, barely stopping his laughter,
"And what a third circle like you can offer me? Though runecasters do intend to be filthy rich, don’t they?"
Axel thought for a moment and declared, "5 million mana stones?"
Vin’s face turned pale in fright at that insane amount. Axel’s friends also tried to stop him, but to no avail. Axel mocked, "Oh, come on, you can’t even take out this little money?"
Vin gritted his teeth and eventually agreed on it, through a mana oath, both parties had bets in effect. Axel also managed to convince his friends to go to the betting den and bet on Rune Tower’s team. Which they did reluctantly and did not bet too much. Only Emma bet all the money she had because of her womanly instincts. Though she did not really believe in what Axel had said.
While little Akon looked at the whole situation transpire with a blank look, not understanding the entirety of what was going on. Many of the audience gave Axel obvious mocking looks for wasting such a large fortune. Many even wondered how the mere 3rd circle mage got to have that much money. Even 4th circle mages had a hard time accumulating that much wealth.
But runecaster’s were always extremely wealthy, so people simply attributed it to that fact and forgot about it. His friends tried to question him about the real deal and what was going on underneath, yet Axel only gave answers like, they would see it on the competition itself.
The next day, competition in the 2nd circle teams of the various tower’s were ongoing, and again the rune tower got eliminated first. The vice tower master’s were also observing the competition from in the sky, their chairs floated in the air, barely visible to the audience or the participants.
But people knew they were watching, as many glanced above in the sky from time to time, in the category of the 2nd circles team competition, this time, the first place was not taken by the sage tower but the Arcane tower.
The audience supporting the Arcane tower cheered thunderously, while the audience supporting the Sage tower had a sour expression on their face. Another day passed like that, and then the next day came. It was time for him to join up. However, Axel was in a predicament on how exactly to handle the situation.
But, shaking his head, the clothes representing the team of the rune, he walked out. The other 19 of the 3rd circle mages of his team were waiting for him, including Emma and her brother Ezekiel. Many of them were displeased that Axel was designated as the leader. But none of them dared to complain, knowing Axel was the disciple of the vice tower master.
On the other hand Emma and Ezekiel somewhat knew that he was extremely strong. Considering his knowledge, they knew him as an exceptionally talented runecaster. But they were still doubtful about his combat prowess. They all walked behind Axel and noted his unwavering confidence. As if their leader did not even care about the competition.
With a tense expression The rune team entered the arena, and encountered the cheering audience. All the other teams also entered simultaneously. Most of them sent mocking looks towards the rune tower.
After a while, everyone was placed in their designated areas in which their flag lay, pinned to the center. They now had to protect it while taking the flag away from the other teams.
Axel issued his first order, "Protect the flag. I will be back."
They all showed dumbfounded expressions on their faces hearing that remark, Emma cursed, "What’s wrong with you? you will get instantly eliminated the moment you set foot in the other teams areas. What can you do alone?"
Many others also voiced their complaints. But he stated coldly,
"Remember, you are to follow my commands at all costs. Now be quiet and protect the flag, that’s an order."
After Axel’s command, his teammates did not dare to complain further, but some of them snickered in ridicule. They couldn’t believe such a reckless person had been taken in by the vice tower master.
The arena was quite vast and designed to be forest like area to hinder ones vision, so each of the teams did not know where exactly the other teams was or their composition.
Axel dared not use his runic eyes yet. He had no intention of revealing it so soon.
His master told him to show a spectacle so great that even the vice tower master’s would drop their jaws at that display.
He intended to do just that, activating runic eye will only draw attention to that, so he would reveal it on the later parts. Axel kept walking in a straight line, hoping to stumble onto one of the teams by chance, he hoped Emma and Ezekiel would be strong enough to protect the flag until he came back.
Thankfully, he left an artifact to Emma, he had instructed her to only activate it only if they were almost about to lose their flag and not activate it under any other circumstances. So, when it is activated, He would know about it instantly.
Finally, after walking for almost 10 whole minutes straight, Axel found his first target. The Elemental towers team.
While high in the sky, Cedric Stormscribe’s usual stoic face had a small smile on it.
The other powerhouses also noticed that and inspected the rune team, seeing how only one person went out from the team to gather the other flags, they became confused. Many of them inspected Axel more thoroughly; they all saw that the mage had exceptionally potent mana and higher reserves of it than his peers, but that was it, nothing too special.
There are always geniuses here and there popping out, who are far stronger than their peers. But still seeing the apparent expectant gaze on Cedric, they simply kept their attention on the rune team, but not expecting too much.
Cedric remarked internally with immense excitement, ’The Show is about to begin.’
