Ren held Lilith’s hand, leading her back to the same training ground where the accident had happened.

The once-damaged space was now fully repaired, as if the explosion had never happened in the first place.

When they got there, Lilith hesitated at the entrance, her gaze sweeping over the yard.

Even though all traces of the accident were gone, the air still smelled faintly of scorched wood.

She tensed. "Why are we here?"

Ren turned to her with an easy smile. "Because you need to try again."

Lilith’s face scrunched up in confusion. "Try what again?"

Ren said nothing, then her eyes widened in realization before her expression darkened. "No."

Ren just smiled at her, saying nothing

"I lost control, Ren." She said. "What if it happens again? What if it’s worse?"

Ren stepped in front of her, keeping his posture relaxed but not dismissive. "Then we’ll deal with it. Together."

She scoffed, crossing her arms. "You think it’s that simple? It’s not."

"It’s not." Ren nodded in agreement. "But you’re looking at it the wrong way."

"What?"

Ren grinned. "You’ve been thinking of your Gift as something that only destroys. Something to be afraid of."

"But have you ever thought about how it could protect you? How it could make you stronger?"

Lilith blinked. "Stronger? My power doesn’t work that way. It’s—"

"Destructive? That’s what you think." Ren interrupted. "You think your power is just destructive because every time you’ve used it, it has always destroyed things."

"It’s called Soul Dominion, Ren." Lilith said. "It’s a curse meant to destroy the soul."

"That’s where you’re wrong." Ren said confidently. He knew this power like the back of his hand. He’d read Lilith’s wiki page more times than his actual textbooks.

Okay, that’s an exaggeration.

He knew how the Gift was supposed to work.

Yes, it takes away Lilith’s emotions the more she uses it but if Lilith was actually social and had actual connections, she would naturally produce more emotions to offset the ones taken by the Gift.

"Your power is just energy, Lilith. You’ve been so focused on what it does to things, but have you ever thought about what it can do for you?"

Lilith hesitated, processing his words.

Ren gestured toward the center of the training grounds. "You don’t need to unleash your power onto everything around you."

"Instead, you can use it to reinforce yourself. To enhance what’s already there."

Lilith bit her lip, looking unsure. "And what if I can’t control it?"

Ren grinned. "That’s why I’m here. I survived last time without a scratch, remember? I’m the best person to practice with."

She gave him a long, wary look before sighing. "Fine. What do you want me to do?"

"Start small." Ren said.

"Focus on yourself. Don’t think about releasing power. Think about absorbing it. Feel it move inside you, and instead of forcing it out, let it settle."

Lilith closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.

Ren watched as her body tensed, then slowly relaxed. A faint shimmer of blue energy flickered across her skin, crackling like an untamed flame.

For a brief second, she winced, but Ren placed a hand lightly on her shoulder.

"Don’t fight it." He said softly. "Let it settle."

The crackling energy shifted, no longer lashing out wildly but instead wrapping around her form.

Slowly, it condensed, becoming more structured. Lilith gasped as a faint, translucent armor of energy formed over her body, covering her like a second skin.

Ren stepped back, watching her reaction. Lilith flexed her fingers, marveling at the way the energy moved with her, responding to her thoughts instead of acting on its own.

"It’s… stable." She whispered. "It’s not pushing out. It’s holding."

Ren crossed his arms with a smirk. "Told you."

Lilith turned to face him fully, her eyes shining, not with fear, but with exhilaration. "Let’s test it."

Ren raised a brow. "You sure?"

She nodded. "You said I could use my power to protect myself, right? Then show me if it actually works."

Ren chuckled. "Alright. Let’s see what you’ve got."

They moved, circling each other in the training grounds, the excitement building between them as they began to spar.

As they fought, Ren noticed that she was faster, stronger, more fluid than before.

He dodged and countered to the best of his ability, reinforced by the power of Unfettered Enhancement, but unlike their previous match, Lilith wasn’t as easy to defeat.

She was keeping up with him!

As their spar continued, laughter broke through the air.

Lilith, for the first time, was enjoying herself. She wasn’t afraid.

The session lasted until the sun began its descent. By the time they stopped, both were breathless but smiling.

"That was incredible." Lilith said, looking at her hands. "I never thought I could—"

"Now you know." Ren interrupted. "Your power isn’t just about destruction. It’s about you."

Lilith turned to him, and for once, there was no hostility in her expression. Only gratitude.

Later that evening, Ren was summoned to Lord Underwood’s office.

When he got there, Lord Underwood was sitting quietly behind his desk, watching Ren with an unreadable expression on his face.

The silence stretched for so long that Ren was starting to wonder if Lord Underwood had forgotten he was there.

Then, the man spoke.

"You’ve done something remarkable, Terence." He said. "My daughter… she smiles now. That’s new."

Ren inclined his head. "She’s not what people think she is. She just needed a different perspective."

Lord Underwood nodded. "I can see that. And I’m grateful for it."

He exhaled. "I’m glad that Lilith finally found someone who could do what even I, her father, can’t do. Thank you, Terence."

Ren opened his mouth and closed it, not knowing what to say. Then, an idea occurred to him.

"My lord, if I may…"

Lord Underwood gestured for him to continue.

"I have a request." Ren met his gaze evenly. "I don’t want Lilith and me to be pushed into marriage until we’re eighteen."

The lord frowned in response. "You don’t wish to honor the engagement?"

Ren shook his head. "That’s not it."

"I want her to go into it knowing it was her choice. She needs time. To grow, to find herself, to decide if this is what she wants. Not just because duty demands it."

Lord Underwood studied him for a long moment before leaning back in his chair. Then, to Ren’s surprise, he chuckled. "You really are different from the others."

Ren waited as the lord considered his words.

Finally, Lord Underwood nodded. "Very well. You have my word. The decision will be hers when the time comes."

Ren exhaled in relief. "Thank you."

Now, he could relax without having someone push an underage wife onto him.

Lord Underwood gave him an approving smile. "No, young Ross. Thank you for giving my daughter hope."
