Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 43: Morning Spar
Ren and Thorn sat in the training grounds of Ross Castle, pulling on their gear in preparation for their morning session.
It had become a habit they’d built since they were on the border. While they’d received training from the Knights there, they’d also made it a habit to train together.
As Ren tightened the straps on his gloves, Thorn glanced at him. "So, what’s the plan for keeping Lilith from hovering over you at the capital? Because let’s be honest, she’s not going to let you breathe."
Ren exhaled at his words. He’d also been searching for a solution himself. How would he dismantle a criminal organization with Lilith breathing down his neck?
"Our best bet is our choice of inn." He said. "The Underwoods are wealthy enough to afford lodging in the inner city."
"They’ll probably secure a place in one of the high-end establishments closer to the palace."
Thorn adjusted his wrist wraps. "And we’ll be staying where?"
"The outer city." Ren said simply. "Far enough that she won’t have immediate access to me but close enough that I won’t arouse suspicion when I go to see her."
Thorn frowned. "And what if she decides to just follow us around? Or decide to stay at the same inn as us? You know she’s capable of that."
Ren paused, considering. "Then we move to Plan B. We’ll carry out our operations at night. I’ll spend the day with her to keep up appearances, while you scout locations. Once night falls, we’ll move."
Thorn sighed. "So I get the grunt work while you spend time with a very beautiful noble lady. Sounds fair."
Ren smirked. "I’d switch places with you if I could."
Thorn scoffed. "No, you wouldn’t."
Ren chuckled, not bothering to deny it. He pulled on his final strap, finishing his preparations. "Let’s get to training."
The training ground was relatively empty this early in the morning, giving them ample space to spar.
Ren and Thorn moved into position and began to spar, their blades clashing in rhythmic motions as they tested each other’s speed and reflexes.
Unlike when they were younger, they fought with live steel, each one skilled enough to handle it.
While Ren had been blessed with Unfettered Enhancement, he had to admit that Thorn was a natural talent.
Maybe it was from fighting at the border or sparring against Ren almost every day for four years, but he was definitely keeping up with Ren.
Thorn’s footwork had improved even more, and Ren had to admit that he was closer than ever to ascending to Rank 3.
Just as they were getting into the rhythm of their fight, a familiar voice rang out.
"Ren!"
Both of them disengaged and turned as Lilith approached, dressed in form-fitting training gear.
Elias walked to the left and slightly behind her, keeping his expression as unreadable as usual, one hand on his sword at his side.
Lilith’s eyes gleamed with excitement as she walked towards them. "I want to spar with you today." She said to Ren. "I’ve been training, and I think it’s time I show you how strong I’ve become."
Ren met her gaze, gauging her enthusiasm. "You’re confident."
Lilith grinned. "Of course. I’ve improved a lot since you last saw me fight."
Ren nodded, stepping back from Thorn and gesturing to the sparring area. "Alright then. Show me."
Lilith’s expression brightened as she took her stance. A faint glow shimmered around her, and in a moment, her translucent blue armor manifested, encasing her form like a second skin.
She reached into thin air and a throwing knife appeared in her hand, glowing with the same energy.
Ren studied her carefully. He already knew Lilith was powerful, and he was eager to see where he stood against her.
"Ready?" He asked.
Lilith smirked. "Always."
She moved first, throwing her knife in a blur of motion. Ren sidestepped, watching as the blade dissolved mid-air before another appeared in her grip. By the time he blinked, she was already within armsreach.
She was fast, faster than before, but Ren had been fighting on the border for years. He read her body language, predicting her next attack as she lunged forward.
Their blades clashed, and Ren could feel the power behind her strikes. Just like he’d taught her, she was using her Soul Dominion to enhance herself.
Her energy pulsed through her weapons as she fought, and he had to give her credit. Her control over her Gift had become formidable.
Lilith twisted, summoning a whip of energy from her free hand, aiming to catch his leg.
Ren flickered to the side, narrowly avoiding the strike before countering with a quick slash.
She blocked, her armor absorbing the impact before retaliating with a rapid series of knife strikes.
Ren stepped forward, closing the distance between them. His sword flashed, deflecting her blades as he tried to get inside her guard. But she kept stepping back, trying to keep him at a distance.
Every time she threw a weapon, another materialized instantly, making her assault neverending.
But Ren had spent years perfecting his own combat style.
The moment he saw an opening, he lunged, feinting to her left before twisting at the last second. His blade grazed past the flash of instinctive energy at his movement, before stopping just at her collarbone.
Lilith froze.
A slow smirk formed on Ren’s lips. "You’ve improved."
Lilith’s breath was uneven, but she was smiling. "Not enough, apparently."
Ren stepped back, lowering his weapon. "You’re strong, Lilith. But I can tell you’re holding back."
Lilith blinked before tilting her head playfully. "Maybe. Or maybe I just wanted you to win."
Ren narrowed his eyes slightly. He wasn’t sure if she was teasing him or she was being serious. Either way, he knew one thing. She was much stronger than he was.
He knew what Soul Dominion could do. It was much more than just translucent armor and an infinite weapon arsenal. But even just that was nothing to scoff at.

Fortunately, her Gift wasn’t overtaking her emotions, meaning she was still in control. That was the most important thing.
Lilith let out a breath, placing a hand on her hip. "I’ll win next time."
Ren chuckled. "Looking forward to it."
As they stepped away, Thorn leaned in and muttered under his breath. "I don’t know if you should be looking forward to anything when it comes to her."
"Like we have any other choice." Ren chuckled.
