Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 112: From Stalemate To Surrounded
Chapter 112: From Stalemate To Surrounded
Due to the visual interference of the thick fog in this area, weapons like throwing knives and arrows were ten times deadlier. And Feng Jun was a cultivator at the sixth layer of a Mystic Art, with little to no cultivation of the martial path, as revealed by the leaderboard.
Han Xuhan had seen his cultivation data clearly. This was why he was so confident in ambushing Feng Jun with such a simple strategy.
No matter how fast Feng Jun’s reaction speed was, he hadn’t imagined that his targets, who hadn’t even noticed his hidden approach through the fog till now, would be so prepared for him to make a big move.
Because Han Xuhan was surrounded by law fragments, Feng Jun had received a mental instruction from prime vessel Qian Yun to use an ambush method that didn’t rely on any Mystic Art.
The moment he revealed himself with his poised shortsword, just about twenty meters behind his target, the target had turned around, holding a knife that was supposed to have been thrown at Qian Yun.
Feng Jun hadn’t had the time to dodge or hide. Han Xuhan’s movements didn’t have an iota of hesitation, certain that his feint would produce the result he wanted to see. The knife had cut through the fog, its trajectory aimed at his torso.
As its silver shadow got bigger and bigger in Feng Jun’s frozen pupils, he felt an incredible force exploding inside his consciousness. His conscious thoughts and fear of death were suppressed by a willpower far beyond his own.
With a yelp that he didn’t make, his upper body somehow bent to a side, his spine cracking and muscles protesting painfully. Feng Jun had no idea how he managed to retain his balance and not scream out from the pain while the knife passed inches above his shoulder.
"...Oops, missed that cockroach by just an inch or so. His reflexes are good! Damn!" Han Xuhan said without a hint of disappointment.
Just as Feng Jun managed to stand straight again, he noticed another knife slipping into Han Xuhan’s grip. Without delaying a second, Feng Jun cast an illusion-inducing law fragment and escaped his throwing range.
Han Xuhan stared at the spot where his opponent had just disappeared. The noise of his footsteps was receding gradually, signaling the distance he was putting between them. Another ambush didn’t seem likely at the moment.
So he immediately turned back to face Qian Yun, who was still holding a stack of contract papers over his chest defensively, appearing a bit stunned by the spectacle.
If he had any idea of what was going on in Qian Yun’s spiritual world, he’d know that ’stunned’ was an understatement. Zhao Weiqing, possessing Qian Yun’s body, was in deep trouble.
Feng Jun was his only hope to crack Han Xuhan’s defense at the moment. He himself didn’t dare to go into the fog possessing the weak prime vessel. He didn’t have adequate preparation for it, and Han Xuhan was certainly not going to allow him to take that kind of preparation here.
So he had stretched his spiritual consciousness thinner, overburdening the main body of Zhao Weiqing to save Feng Jun at the very last moment, turning him into a puppet like Qian Yun as well.
Right now, his spiritual body was broken beyond his original plans. The botched possession of Han Xuhan, Mu Ran, and the delay with Xuanyuan Zhou was only making things harder. His control over everything was slipping away slowly.
Unaware of the trouble his actions had inadvertently landed Zhao Weiqing in, Han Xuhan started yapping again leisurely.
"What a shame! I would’ve loved to teach that guy a lesson. Anyways, as you can see, we are once again in a temporary stalemate. So how about you..." he trailed off, lost in thought.
"How about I what?" Zhao Weiqing asked warily.
"I just realized that I haven’t thought of what to say after that part of my speech. Excuse me for a moment while I make something up," Han Xuhan answered, appearing distracted.
Zhao Weiqing understood that he was buying more time now. But that was actually good for him. His main body could focus on the more important tasks like refining its spirituality as long as Han Xuhan didn’t start anything troublesome here.
Besides, what could a single cultivator at the second layer of a Mystic Art even do here other than defend himself using these tricks?
It did not matter how much time Han Xuhan bought for himself. In the end, he was hardly a threat to Zhao Weiqing’s plans. With each passing second, his plans were coming closer to completion. Within a few minutes, this entire Holy Land of Laws would fall within his grasp once more...
Meanwhile, Han Xuhan finally managed to come up with the following part of his speech.
"Ah, right. Where were we? That part about being in a stalemate. So my thoughts on the current situation are... Since both of us intend to buy time in our own ways, it seems that we have the same aim and we can work together.
"So why don’t you keep standing there, I’ll keep standing here, and Brother Feng Jun will keep squatting somewhere in the fog like he’s taking a dump until new variables to our battle are introduced. This arrangement sounds reasonable, right?"
Zhao Weiqing naturally didn’t have any complaints. But he did feel his frustration and annoyance trying to explode into something violent aimed at this asshat.
Just as he was feeling conflicted over whether to just sacrifice this guy in front of him instead of using him for the purification process, another flash of violet light appeared on the platform.
Finally!
Zhao Weiqing rejoiced silently. Another soul shard has been purified!
But the flash of light did not disappear as he had expected and instead got brighter. Concentrating hard, he could sense a web of mental networks connected to his mind appearing across the platform.
As the violet light got brighter and brighter, the web of mental connection expanded continuously, strengthening his perception of the surroundings more and more, as well as giving him a certain feeling of control over everything around him.
A smirk appeared on Zhao Weiqing’s face. The wait had been worth it. Sixteen new chains of mental connection had appeared in his mind. The purification process was more or less completed!
Other than the three soul shards that had been prepared for Han Xuhan, Mu Ran, and Xuanyuan Zhou, the rest should have started assimilating with the main body...
Zhao Weiqing turned to look at Han Xuhan, who had suddenly fallen silent after seeing the appearance of the violet lights.
The cultivators who had reappeared above the platform received his orders through the mental network. Sixteen silhouettes slowly walked over toward their position in the fog.
Han Xuhan started fidgeting nervously, making Zhao Weiqing feel a rush of vengeful relish. He even shouted out his orders to let Han Xuhan hear, just so that he could enjoy the sight of his body language growing more fearful.
"Everyone, that female cultivator who was controlling the undead army might pose some problems once she returns. Take care of the zombies before she appears."
The cultivators nodded in acknowledgment of his order and rushed toward the zombies standing guard near the platform. Through the veil of the fog, Han Xuhan and Zhao Weiqing could vaguely see the chaos that ensued.
The zombies must have been ordered by Xuanyuan Zhou to remain tame and defensive until she returned. They didn’t put up much of a struggle while being beaten and chased away from the platform, deeper into the fog.
Secretly, Zhao Weiqing ordered two of the cultivators amidst the chaos to sneak around the area and attack Han Xuhan from two different directions within the fog. Then he ordered three other cultivators to stand guard near the platform and attack Xuanyuan Zhou the moment she made her appearance.
Using the thicker layers of the fog and Zhao Weiqing’s mental directions, the two cultivators, combined with Feng Jun and Zhao Weiqing himself, soon surrounded Han Xuhan from all four directions, who was completely unaware of this fact.
