Chapter 153: Businessman Xuhan On A Roll

"Visualize this scene with me. For the next few weeks, you, I, and Xuanyuan Zhou, the three of us work together to teach the basics of the language of laws to our fellow disciples.

"Word gets passed around, and people start flocking into our lectures gradually. Once our technique becomes popular at the grassroots level of the sect, our business will see a big boom!

"Then again, we’re obviously not the last generation of disciples to be recruited here. Once new disciples, our juniors, enter the sect, they’ll not have the inhibitions toward the language of laws that the current generation possesses due to their knowledge of its background.

"By then, our technique would be widely known and practiced! We’d only need to nudge the new disciples toward the technique and it’d sell like hotcakes! As you can see, our profit won’t be limited to the near future. We will be raking in spirit stones every time the sect recruits new disciples!"

"Good heavens!" Mu Ran jumped to his feet in excitement, as if he could already see a mountain of spirit stones in his imagination.

"You’re a genius, Underling! An absolute genius!"

"Ehehehe, you’re over-praising me, Boss. Your brilliance still overshadows mine by a large margin, boss! In terms of things that matter, like cultivation speed, you’ve left me in dust long ago..."

"You jest, underling. The margin I surpass you by isn’t that large. It’s just six phases of Physique Transformation, four layers of Mystic Art, and three layers of Monas- Erm, I mean, three layers of another Mystic Art..."

From Han Xuhan’s hut, two voices roaring with demonic laughter rang out for a very long time, followed by some sounds of harsh coughing and a shout exclaiming, ’’Oh, I think my qi deviation is acting up again, urrk-hawkkk!!!"

Half an hour later, Han Xuhan’s condition ’stabilized’, and Mu Ran left after being assured that his condition wouldn’t deteriorate. He was very surprised to see how quickly his underling was recovering from the sudden qi deviation.

Before leaving, he took away that aura-enhancing crystal they had confiscated from old man Di Qian on their first mission, much to Han Xuhan’s sorrow.

That gadget was so useful, dammit!

Regardless, it wasn’t his own to begin with, so he didn’t brood over it for long. His only disappointment was that he wouldn’t be able to prank his fellow disciples by suddenly ’breaking through’ in the middle of a conversation, repeatedly.

A man can only dream... sigh.

"Oi, Zhanxian, is the coast clear?" He finally asked the skeleton in a low voice, who was on the lookout at the door of the hut.

"Yeah, seems like it." Zhanxian turned around and flashed him a thumbs-up.

But just to make things sure, Han Xuhan kept up the act for a while more, lying weakly on his bed.

In this one month, he had prepared for many future scenarios. Escaping his duty as the follower of a trouble-magnet like Mu Ran was naturally one of them. He wasn’t eager to get embroiled in these horrific subplots centered around the protagonist, not before making sure that he could handle the heat.

Spitting out the blood-stimulation pill from his mouth, Han Xuhan sat up after a while and contemplated his next move.

Last week, he had received the official felicitation from the sect, along with Xuanyuan Zhou and Mu Ran. They had stood in front of the entire outer court in an assembly, and a particularly loquacious elder had lavished them with enough praise to make even Mu Ran blush.

They had received a small reward of three hundred spirit stones each (yes, three hundred spirit stones was a small amount in his eyes now), two years of free access to the archives and its library (purchases excluded), and their bi-monthly residential fees had been waived for the year. Han Xuhan’s promotion to an official disciple had also been publicly declared at that time.

It was enough to make even the most well-off disciples jealous. But thankfully, nobody went out of their way to express their envy, unlike those arrogant young masters in xianxia stories.... yet. Han Xuhan had to give that degenerate author some credit. He hasn’t at least resorted to those cheap tricks to keep readers hooked.

Of course, there were many snide remarks and doubtful questions slithering among the disciples, but none among the trio really cared enough to respond. So the commotion in the outer court had slowly died down.

But still, the possibility of jealous peers taking up the role of arrogant young masters wasn’t something he could ignore. Such incidents were common even back on Earth. How could a power-obsessed society like the world of cultivation not have the same phenomenon?

So, Han Xuhan had come up with a plan... and today he could finally execute it, now that he had broken through to the third layer. The scheme he had fed Mu Ran was but a small part of it.

"Pack the bags, Zhanxian. We’re about to do something big today. So we’ll need every type of contingency device we have amassed, just to be on the safe side."

Han Xuhan leaped out of his bed and rolled his shoulders, his head full of plans for the day.

The two of them headed to Xuanyuan Zhou’s hut, Zhanxian carrying several large bags on his back. After becoming a legitimate undead cultivator, the skeleton’s physical constitution was slightly stronger than before, perfect for doing laborious jobs, something that Han Xuhan was determined to use to his advantage whenever possible.

"My Lady, are you in there? I hope we’re not intruding upon your cultivation session!"

His shout from her yard brought Xuanyuan Zhou out of her hut. Judging by her appearance, she had probably been meditating for some time. Wearing neat, unruffled, yet dusty clothing, a soot-covered face, cobwebs on her hair, stiff posture, and puffy eyes... yep, all of these were signs of a lengthy cultivation session.

"Did I hear that right? Someone called me ’My Lady’? How strange! I don’t remember having a servant around!"

Han Xuhan coughed awkwardly. "I got used to addressing you that way... Sister Zhou. If you prefer it, I can keep calling you ’My Lady’."

"Why would I have such a strange preference... ’Brother’ Xuhan?" Xuanyuan Zhou put a whole lot of emphasis on the word ’Brother’, enough to convey the hint.

"Of course, I misspoke. My apologies. It is actually my preference. I’d rather not change the way I’ve been addressing you, My Lady. I hope you won’t mind."

Han Xuhan felt amused, having to relent on a matter so silly. He didn’t understand this girl sometimes. Why did someone so mature and intelligent act so wilful and childish over these meaningless things?

He, personally, did not care at all whether he had to call her Sister, My Lady, or Your Highness; it was all the same to him as long as the gains and compromises in their relationship remained balanced.

"Whatever you feel like, it’s up to you, then," Xuanyuan Zhou said lazily. But her gaze was sharp as she surveyed him from head to toe.

"Also, it seems like I must congratulate you. A breakthrough with that cursed physique of yours is no small feat. Well done! Now, did you come here to show off or do you need something? You aren’t the type to come for meaningless visits..."

Han Xuhan flashed her an unabashed smile and got to the point without beating around the bush. frёewebηovel.cѳm

"Ahahaha, thank you, My Lady! To be honest, I do need your help with something. Can I interest you in a financially beneficial partnership?"
