F-Rank Soul Eater-Chapter 152: It Has Found A way
At such a time, a figure rushed into the room, kicking a tall as she did.
Soren’s eyes snapped to her. "Dr kaya. Thank you for..." he paused.
She paid no attention to him.
She fell on the ground, but quickly got up. Her eyes darted around desperately, heels clicking as she hurried to the cupboards.
"Where is it? Where is it!?"
Her fingers searched, scattering table after table.
Soren was taken aback.
"Dr Kaya do you perhaps need help with..."
"Where is it!?" She screamed.
"Where is what?" He asked back.
"I... left it here!"
Finally, at a corner, her eyes fell on a black box.
Instantly, she hurried to it.
The moment she touched it, its scanned her fingers.
[Dr Kaya. Accepted]
A smooth hissing was heard as it opened up.
A huge syring the size of a baby’s forearm laid within.
On it was a label. Even from the distance, Soren could read it.
[Insulin]
With obviously shaky hands, she brought had syringe to her neck, and inserted it.
The moment the syringe released its contents, she gasped in relief.
Breathing heavy, sweat dripping down her forehead—she raised her head to Soren. "Good, you are finally awake."
Soren stared speechless.
.....
With careful steps, Soren followed after Dr Kaya—arm to his chest and groaning from time to time as he did.
They moved through the hallway of the facility.
Soren recignized it. This was the Science research institute that he, Polystar and Vass had snuck into.
Unlike back then, the place had more people. Scientists walking about, devices being transported, and two or three Red swords standing guard.
"Whats going on?" Soren asked.
"Two catastrophically abnormal incidents in one week." She giggled. "The empire is making adjustments to the Place."
A Red sword hurried to her presenting a document. She signed it, and the red sword nodded before leaving.
"Treating you was no easy matter." Dr Kaya spoke up, leading in front. "You were inflicted with corrupted soul energy. If I had not been there, you would have died a very pitiful death."
Soren nodded. "Thank you."
"Oh... its all good." Her green eyes sharpened behind her glasses, and she whispered. "Its not like I did not gain anything."
They got to another room.
Within was Cynthia, sleeping on a long bench, the window curtain—used as a blanket.
"She has been waiting for you all week." Dr. Kaya turned to Soren. "From what I heard, you owe her dinner."
Soren’s eyes widened. He had forgotten that he promised her after she defended Tommy.
"From what I coukd tell, she has eaten anything all week—waiting for you."
Those words surprised soren. He did not know she had taken those words very seriously.
"Don’t joke with her feelings, do better." Dr Kaya stated, as she turned to leave.
"Wait!" Soren called.
"YES." She paused.
"What of my friend, Tommy, and the others?" His gaze fixed on her hopefully.
"Don’t worry, give or take, you will see them in a month’s time. Its not so easy to suppress the WILL of Shades you know."
Soren nodded. "And...em..." he swallowed. "What about me?" His gaze spoke louder than his lips.
She understood what he meant. Soren was an anomaly.
And he was not so foolish to believe that after having access to jis body, she had not figured out some things.
He wanted to know if she was going to snitch on him or not.
"You?" She walked up to hom, brushing his black hair aside to reveal more of his face. "You... are my special pet. Tell me, why would I do anything to hurt you."
Even though she said those words, Soren’s instincts screamed at him, and he took several steps back.
Dr Kaya did not mind this. "Good boy." She commented.
Soren found himself looking away. Hr had faced Eldritch souls that ripped people apart like biscuit, and yet, he found himself peeling away from this woman’s eyes.
He was not a fool to think she was his friend. His judgement was not so crowded by the sentiment that she helped him.
Still—for now, she was no enemy.
"Thank you, again." He finally spoke.
"Tsk tsk tsk..." she shook her head. "Don’t thank me yet. I took my own pound of flesh."
Soren was taken aback by those words. But before he could ask, her heels were already clicking away.
"Oh..." Her retreating voice reached him. "Be very careful. You are still badly wounded. That’s the same thing for your shade."
A Red sword replaced her figure at the entrance. "I have been tasked to escort you out of the Red Zone. Please... if you may." He gestured with a hand.
Soren could only watch her disappear into the distance.
He had a very bad feeling.
However, there was nothing he could do now.
"Soooreeennn." Cynthia called from behind.
He turned to her. "Hey, Cynthia." He smiled, "how about I buy you that dinner."
Steam released from her helmet. She was definitely blushing in excitement.
Before they even got back to the dormitory, Cynthia had informed everybody that Soren was coming back.
Still, they had their meal even before the others showed up in his room.
Bloodshine literally jumped on him, then checking his body like an over worried mother.
"Why... why do you always get into trouble?" She asked.
Soren wanted to answer, but at this point, even he thought that he might as well be cursed.
Vass simply looked at him for a bit, then his gaze landed on Polystar.
If one could kill with their gaze, Vass would have murdered Polystar by now.
"What’s up with them?" Soren asked lowly.
Pencil leaned in. "I dont know. But they have been that way since they came out of the detention center."
"Oh..." Soren nodded.
Polystar, resting casually against a wall took a long look at Soren. "You are not yet dead. You continue to impress me, commoner."
"I have Doctor Kaya to thank for that." Soren replied.
"No." Polystar shook his head. "The Green Witch can do many things. But even this is outrageous.
It would interest you to know that every instructor and cadet, aside that abnormal Vandabel, that participated in the event all had to visit the sickbay."
"So?"
"They have not been discharged till now. That was over a week ago.
And from i saw in the clips, you were in the direct line of Goldsworth’s attack.
Ideally, you should have turned to dust by now."
"Oh..." Soren nodded in understanding.
At the same time, something tugged at his curiosity.
Polystar had not been there during the battle between him and Goldsworth. If he knew so much, then it was because of videos.
Soren wondered if those videos had shown the Shades leaving his body.
"Polystar, do you happen to have the video of the match."
"I thought you might ask." Polystar click a button on his wristwatch wmand flickered a finger.
Soren received it. Nervous, he pressed the play button.
The video showed from the exact moment he was pounding Goldsworth on the ground and then when Goldsworth blasted outward with Corrupted soul energy.
The screen suddenly went static, then blank.
"That’s all there is." He adjusted his glasses, "unfortunately..."
Polystar nodded.
"Corrupt Soul energy is a very dangerous and touchy subject. Ideally, only the Church of the God of the Neuralink should have access to it.
It’s how they create Red Swords to put a check on Soulbound warriors."
Soren had heard of this many times, and had even seen a Red sword sever the connection between a soulbound warrior and their Shade.
He coukd not help but ask. "If Red Swords are so capable, then why are they not fighting against Eldritch souls?"
Polystar, Bloodshine, and Tommy paused. All staring at Soren like he just said pigs could fly.
"Because they can’t." Tommy replied. "Everyone knows this. Corrupted Soul energy is dangerous to Shades, but nourishment to Eldritch souls."
"Its like a circle. Each one manages to have just the right advantage over the other. Of course the strength any can display is greatly dependent on their individual power level.
Like how a baby Eagle can do nothing to a mature mountain goat. But the goat still knows that it is its natural predator."
Soren nodded in understanding. No wonder polystar had been shocked that he survived.
Speaking this far, Soren also told his findings.
"The Shade Killer is not killing the cadets. Its their Shades taking over their bodies."
Soren further explained how he had arrived at this conclusion.
All the while, Polystar’s frown would deepen.
"So that explains that."
"Explains what?" Soren asked.
Pencil hurriedly explained.
"During the days you were out, the Shade Stealer struck again.
But this time around, it was three different places simultaneously. Six more cadets fell victims.
However, when we marched it up with information we had of the former victims, two people did not match the criteria of being instructed by the late Instructor Ivory."
Soren’s eyes sharpened. He instantly figured it out. "The Shade killer is recruiting more, but even worse, it has found a way to go past just the students Ivory taught."
