F-ranker Sword Saint: My Soulbound Sword is Secretly SSS-tier!-Chapter 299: Unsober
On the main stage, a storm of steel and wind surged as a tyrannical young man of slightly above average height fought a cursed, armored wraith of similar physique.
Skylar looked as though he would spit fire the next moment.
He had never been so angry in his entire life, but at the same time, he couldn’t even complain, or else he would look even more stupid.
He wanted to cry "unfair!" but couldn’t even admit it to himself.
Nonetheless, his arms never stopped moving, the gears of his mind shifting and turning as he tried to think of a solution.
The damned wraith in front of him was not too difficult an opponent, thanks to the scarlet pill’s effects. However, it was skilled enough that he couldn’t ignore it, either.
Skylar had been trying to go straight for his real opponent, but Commodus was extremely persistent, and infuriatingly, seemingly just for the heck of a wretched scrap.
The Sky Prince gritted his teeth so hard that it made faint cracking noises.
He couldn’t take to the skies anymore, as he didn’t have enough spare stamina. At the back of his head, Skylar began regretting being so wasteful earlier.
He had fifty Greater Stamina Potions, and yet, he was somehow forced to conserve now...
All these smaller thoughts only served to further fan the flames of the prince of House Ashwind’s anger to the high heavens.
Skylar was very skilled in hiding his emotions.
However, at that moment, fury and hatred oozed from every pore of his body as he fought off the invulnerable wraith.
Of course, he glanced at his true foe from time to time, observing what he was doing — both to protect himself and scheme his counterattack.
Skylar noticed that Daru was holding something, as though some sort of contingency.
A gray flower.
The prince narrowed his eyes, slipping to the side, getting into position, and countering with the Seven Glasswind Slash.
Each ethereal shatter, however, only stalled the cursed wraith’s inevitable malice for half a moment.
But this was enough for Skylar.
Knowing he couldn’t be indecisive any longer, the Sky Prince moved, jumping to dodge the malevolent sweep...then stepping at nothing in the air.
Once. Thrice.
Before everyone could wrap their heads around what was happening, Skylar was full-on pushing himself off the winds, meteoring at his real opponent in the distance.
Alopecion gritted his teeth at the sight, his hairline receding a bit more.
This was the movement Sword Skill used by the bastard inside the smokescreen when they fought.
Daru’s eyes, meanwhile, widened momentarily, flashing with a hint of greed.
He slipped into a stance, lashing out with Seven Glasswind Slash. Skylar sneered as a wraith trailed behind him.
In the next moment, a diagonal Crosswind Slash materialized before him, easily shattering all seven Glasswinds.
He naturally knew the weaknesses of his family’s Legacy Sword Skill, and with this, he was able to confirm that the Sword Skill his foe was using was indeed the Seven Glasswind Slash.
But Daru wasn’t fazed.
Skylar’s windy tackle was probably more powerful now, thanks to the scarlet pill, but that only mattered the other way around.
Before the Ashwind meteor crashed upon him, he struck a stoic yet mildly ridiculous pose — the bane of his foe’s Sword Skill.
However, Skylar wasn’t stupid, either.
He suddenly shifted his center of gravity, putting on the brakes and ascending skywards through nonexistent steps, then backflipping, landing nimbly behind the armored wraith.
For starters, his plan to bait out that infuriating invulnerability Sword Skill worked.
Since he had already decided to reveal his final ability, it wouldn’t be too difficult for him to avoid the "Swordspawn" anymore, and he could make his way towards his true foe again with moderate effort.
Only, he had to finish the battle before the effects of the scarlet pill and the white talisman ended.
Skylar knew time was not on his side anymore, a seed of uncertainty budding in his heart as his eyes settled upon what was on Daru’s hands again.
That gray flower...what are its effects?
Unfortunately, hesitation could not fit in his timeline anymore, so the Sky Prince charged first and thought second.
He feigned a clash with the cursed wraith, baiting out a stab before utilizing the third dimension to bypass the malicious hindrance and dash straight for Daru at the back.
Daru, however, had already decided to pull no punches.
With the Blossom Bracelet equipped, he sniffed the Sinflower, eyes turning bloodshot and boldness skyrocketing.
He shook his head with a rather maddened grin, then faced his approaching foe.
Skylar’s eyes narrowed as he slashed forth with a forceful grunt. In the next moment, a piercing clang, accompanied by a brief, screeching gale, echoed across Crownspire Arena.
"Argh!" the Sky Prince groaned, finding himself shooting back to the pursuing stone swords, barely able to avoid them by stepping towards the skies.
He finally could not suppress a desperate scowl, in utter denial that his trump cards were trumped.
His mind worked as he recovered his balance, but unfortunately, the annoying wraith gave him no time to think too clearly.
Still, Skylar was a tactician, and he determined that he still had a chance: effect duration.
Perhaps that damned flower would time out before his scarlet pill and white talisman did?
The Sky Prince’s hope almost returned...until his opponent spoke:
"There’s more where that came from."
Daru wasn’t exactly creative and original with his taunts, yet somehow, they were very effective.
Skylar’s breathing grew heavier in sheer anger at his words.
The Ashwind prince certainly didn’t appreciate being clowned with his own words, especially since this was the second time the bastard was using it against him.
To make matters worse, Daru proved it by taking out a few more Sinflowers, as if to mock his plan borne of desperation.
The Sky Prince trembled heavily as a realization settled over him.
He...will lose.
Not long after, however, he stepped onto the flat of his jikdo and soared to the skies.
This was not a wise move, given that both of them were conserving stamina, yet the tyrannical young master still did it, anyway.
Ourion hovered at a safe height as Skylar, seething with the fury of the burning heavens, turned to look, engraving the very scene before him in his mind.
Today, he, Skylar Ashwind, was humiliated. But this entire matter does not end today.
"Don’t think this is over, Daru Finnley. It would be wise for you to watch your back from now on," he threatened coldly, then turned to leave with a murderous gaze towards the horizon.
Before everyone’s wits could catch up, the tyrannical prince of the skies was already disappearing beyond the walls of the arena.
Daru, further emboldened by the Sinflower, only chuckled and grinned as he dismissed Commodus, his unsober parting words caught in all their full glory:
"Heh, what a sore loser. You’re welcome to come at me anytime. In fact, bring your whole family with you."
The arena shuddered.
