Chapter 272: Dale Brown

Williama stiffened at the name, her body momentarily freezing, as though the mention of Dale Brown had a physical effect on her. freёwebnoѵel.com

"Why do you need to find out about Dale?" she asked, her voice low and tinged with something that could easily be mistaken for fear. The change in her demeanor didn’t go unnoticed by Aiden. He raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Williama, the ever-composed, often calculating figure, was actually scared of someone. This was new.

Aiden leaned forward slightly, his gaze intense as he probed further. "What I want to do with him is none of your business," he said, "Get me his details, and I’ll make sure you get your due."

Williama shook her head almost imperceptibly, the quiet gesture belying a deep sense of urgency and fear. "Aiden, listen to me." Her voice softened, but there was a heaviness in her words. "I can help you with almost anything, but not this. Not him." She hesitated, clearly weighing her next words.

"I know you don’t think I care for you. I haven’t been the best mother. Hell, I haven’t even been a mother let alone a good one. But the truth is, I care enough about you that I’d rather not see you make a mistake you’ll regret. And Dale... he’s nothing but danger." Her eyes locked with his, pleading without actually saying the words. "Whatever you’re planning to do with him, whatever work you have in mind, just look for someone else. Anyone else."

"In that case, you can look for someone else, too, to help you boost your position." His tone was dismissive, as though challenging her to back out of this negotiation. With that, he made a motion to stand up, ready to end the conversation, but Williama wasn’t done. She wasn’t about to let this slip through her fingers.

Williama’s hand shot out to stop him, her fingers brushing against his wrist, her grip firm enough to halt him but gentle enough to avoid seeming desperate. "Aiden, please." Her voice trembled slightly, a trace of something raw creeping into her usually composed demeanor. "I’m not trying to hold out on you. I’m not playing a game or negotiating for more benefits here." She leaned in a little, her gaze intense as if trying to convey her sincerity. "Dale Brown is a dangerous man, and you don’t understand what you’re dealing with. His parents... they were not normal. I don’t know all the details, but from what I’ve heard, they screwed him over in ways that you couldn’t even imagine. And trust me when I say this, I have met him only once in the last four years. And even then, he almost decapitated me for simply talking to him."

Even now, she remembered he’d almost torn her hand off. Of course, she didn’t tell Aiden that she had tried to seduce the man. A man who was around her son’s age. But as she looked at Aiden, she knew he was not going to relent. She grimaced and said, "Look. I can’t tell you much because I don’t know much."

"He’s some kind of doctor. His degree is primarily psychology. But he’s a criminal psychologist, or something along those lines. But that’s not the worst of it. From what I’ve gathered, he’s also some kind of undercover sniper or interrogator. I am not too sure. He works for the government, in some capacity, doing things that would make your skin crawl. Those are his own uncle’s words. The man is a killer, Aiden. A professional one." She paused, letting the weight of her words sink in. "You can’t even imagine the things he’s capable of. He’s not someone you want on your bad side. Or even your good side for that matter. Just keep away from him."

"I think I can decide whom I want to be with. Where can I find him?"

Williama let out a long, heavy sigh, her eyes flickering away as she wrestled with her thoughts. She knew better than to push for more, but the temptation was hard to resist. After all, the more she knew, the better she could leverage the situation, especially when it came to negotiating for more profits.

Finally, she spoke, her voice quiet, almost reluctant. "He’s not in the country... though I can’t tell you exactly where he is."

Aiden gave her a knowing look then. "And what would you want in return for finding out where he is?"

It didn’t take long for her to come up with a list as if she was simply waiting for a question. "First, I want full access to your connections in the business world. I want invitations to the most exclusive events, the kind of circles that will give me the influence I deserve."

She paused, gauging his reaction, and then added, "And second, I want your word—no, your written promise—that you’ll help secure my future, a life where they don’t have to worry about the things I’ve had to. That means you will give me a... certain sum of money every month as allowance. For now, I think five million each month should do."

"I’ll consider your requests," Aiden said finally, his voice cold and measured, "but here’s the deal: You have twenty-four hours to get me the information on Dale’s whereabouts. If you fail, the deal is off, and you can forget about any support from me."

"Twenty- four hours? That is too less, Aiden. I cannot get that kind of..."

"Twenty four hours and not a single minute more, Mrs Brown. But, I will sweeten the pot for you. Bring me a picture of him and I will add a million extra... each month."

Even as her eyes widened at this, Aiden walked away. He simply needed to make sure that he was on the right track. He could not find any other leads that would lead to Serena. So, if Dale Brown was the man who could get him information about Serena... then he would hunt the man even from the depths of hell.
