Chapter 15

As Qin Yuchuan listened to Feng Qingyi chattering away, although there were some words he didn't understand at all, he didn't interrupt her. Instead, he quietly listened.

After arriving at the supermarket, Feng Qingyi realized that she had been talking the whole way, while Qin Yuchuan hadn't uttered a word.

"We're at the supermarket now. I feel like I talked a bit too much. Did you find it annoying?"

The corners of Qin Yuchuan's lips curled upwards slightly. "Not at all. It was rather interesting."

"That's good then. Let's go shopping together!" Feng Qingyi pushed a shopping cart towards the vegetable section.

Feng Qingyi held up her phone. "Take a look at the vegetables here. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to eat."

Through the screen, Qin Yuchuan saw all sorts of vegetables, but he hardly recognized any of them since he had never encountered them before.

"You can pick. I'll eat anything," he replied, not wanting to admit that he only knew Chinese cabbage.

Feng Qingyi thought for a moment. "Okay, let's buy some lettuce. The oyster sauce lettuce I make is delicious. And let's get some cauliflower too, to stir-fry with meat. I'll go buy some meat now. Do you eat fish?"

"Sure," Qin Yuchuan said, watching as Feng Qingyi put the vegetables into transparent bags and placed them in the shopping cart.

Isn't she supposed to pay for the groceries? There isn't even a vendor!

As Qin Yuchuan pondered this, Feng Qingyi had already picked out two fish.

Feng Qingyi dared not kill the fish herself, but there was a dedicated fish processing area here. They could even slice the fish for her. Steamed fish fillets would be perfect for dinner.

Qin Yuchuan became even more perplexed. This time, there was a vendor who helped process the fish, yet Feng Qingyi didn't pay or get stopped by anyone. Truly strange.

"Got the fish. Let's buy some pork next, and that should be enough. Making too much would be a waste," Feng Qingyi said.

Qin Yuchuan agreed with Feng Qingyi's stance against wasting food. In the military camp, rations were scarce, and there was never any waste, for sometimes they even struggled to eat their fill.

After buying the pork, Feng Qingyi pushed the cart to the weighing station, then remembered to buy bowls and chopsticks.

For chopsticks, Feng Qingyi casually picked out two boxes and put them in the cart.

However, selecting the bowls didn't go as smoothly.

Feng Qingyi loved beautiful things, and there were so many stylish bowls at the supermarket, with many attractive options.

She was about to get overwhelmed by the choices and couldn't pick a suitable set, so she finally asked Qin Yuchuan for help.

"Qin Yuchuan, take a look at these bowls and let me know which ones are better."

Qin Yuchuan stared at the entire shelf of bowls, slightly shocked. Aren't they just bowls for eating? Why the need for so many fancy designs?

"Just pick the ones in front of you," Qin Yuchuan said, feeling those bowls looked more pleasing compared to the overly elaborate ones.

Feng Qingyi picked up the bowls Qin Yuchuan mentioned. "But these aren't pretty."

"...They're just eating bowls. Why do they need to be pretty?" Qin Yuchuan didn't quite understand Feng Qingyi's mindset.

Feng Qingyi said softly, "But if the bowls are beautiful, eating would become a happy and enjoyable experience."

Although Feng Qingyi's voice was low, Qin Yuchuan heard her words clearly.

There's nothing wrong with the young lady liking pretty things.

"Then buy the ones you like."

Feng Qingyi hesitated again. "I like these three, but I can't decide which one to get."

Qin Yuchuan had no choice but to carefully examine the three bowl sets Feng Qingyi had picked out, though they didn't seem too different to him.

"Why don't you buy all of them?"

Feng Qingyi nodded. "That's a good idea. I'll get a set of each design."

After getting the bowls and chopsticks, Feng Qingyi indulged herself and headed straight for the snack aisle.

Qin Yuchuan stared at the colorful bags on the screen. "What are all these?"

"They're all delicious snacks. These potato chips taste great - I'll get you a bag too! And the chocolate over there is amazing too..." Feng Qingyi rambled on as she tossed items into the cart one after another until it was full.

"That's it for today. Let's go check out," Feng Qingyi said, pushing the cart to the cash register.

After paying, Feng Qingyi filled in an address for home delivery since there were too many items for her to carry.

Qin Yuchuan asked, "Aren't you taking the things you bought?"

"Of course I'm keeping them. I carefully picked everything out. This supermarket offers half-hour home delivery. By the time I casually walk home, the groceries should have arrived," Feng Qingyi explained.

Home delivery - Qin Yuchuan knew about that. In Shengjing, some stores would deliver pre-ordered items to your residence after they were prepared. That must be what she meant.

"But I didn't see you pay?" Qin Yuchuan finally asked the question that had been nagging at him.

Feng Qingyi turned the camera towards her hand. "See this card? It's the supermarket's shopping card. We load money onto it in advance, and then we just scan the card to pay when shopping."

Qin Yuchuan somewhat understood, realizing that she had paid, just in an unfamiliar way, so he didn't ask any further questions.

As Feng Qingyi walked along, she noticed a bubble tea shop and realized she hadn't had any in a long time. She could grab a cup.

"I'm going to buy a drink. I'll get one for you too. Do you want it hot, room temperature, or iced?"

"Hot, room temperature, iced?" Qin Yuchuan was a bit confused.

Seeing his puzzlement, Feng Qingyi rephrased her question. "Is the weather where you are hot or cold? If it's hot, you'd want an iced drink. If it's cold, you'd want a hot drink. If it's neither hot nor cold, room temperature is fine."

"It's a bit cold," Qin Yuchuan replied truthfully. Even in summer, the border region remained chilly, especially with the recent fierce winds.

"Okay, I'll get you a hot one then." Feng Qingyi entered the bubble tea shop and ordered two cups of their signature milk tea - one iced and one hot.

After buying the drinks and seeing no one around, Feng Qingyi transmitted the hot cup to Qin Yuchuan.

Upon receiving the bubble tea, Qin Yuchuan mimicked Feng Qingyi's actions, inserting the straw and taking a slow sip.

The sweet yet not overpowering flavor, intertwined with the aroma of tea, was a taste he had never experienced before.

"Isn't it delicious?" Feng Qingyi said with a smile.

Qin Yuchuan felt a little dazed looking at her smile. "Yeah, it tastes good."

"It's fine if you like it. I need to go home now, so I'll hang up. I'll send you the things I bought later, and I'll send you the dinner I cook tonight as well."

"Okay."

Qin Yuchuan looked at the person disappearing from the screen, feeling a little lost.

They lived in different worlds, and being able to meet in this form was already a rare opportunity. What more could he ask for?

As soon as Feng Qingyi got home, the things she had bought had already arrived.
