Hunter was finishing his assignment due for tomorrow when his phone vibrated against the table. He grabbed it without wasting a second more because he had been waiting for that reply. A smile sneaked across his lips when he saw the name, Goddess.

Goddess:

Why were you not in the assembly?

Hunter frowned at the question though he was expecting it. It wasn't hard to notice his absence on the dais, so it shouldn't surprise him that Hera caught on to it. He wanted to tell her the real reason but then thought of the cold war between them. One of his eyebrows arched up, and he smirked.. He could hear her authoritative tone in that message.

'Hm, let's see how it is going.'

Devil:

I was busy. Something came up.

He typed and sent it. Leaning his back against the wooden chair, he lifted his right foot to rest it on the spindle. Propping his elbow on his thigh, he stared at the phone in his hand and waited for the fiery reply he knew would arrive soon. A few seconds later, the screen of his expensive device lit up, and the vibrating sensation passed through his fingers and palm.

Goddess:

How come I didn't see you the entire day? What were you so busy with, Mr Hunter?

Hera couldn't resist the bitterness sinking its clutches into her heart. She couldn't get rid of the unpleasant images of him carrying Adelaide in his arms. She couldn't believe he was playing with her. She wished he was in front of her. If only she could dig the tip of her nails into his skin.

'How nice it will be to scratch and tear his skin with my claws!'

Hera held onto the phone as if she was clutching for her dear life while waiting for Hunter's reply.

Hunter clicked his tongue and shook his head, not at all impressed by the question. He could envision her spatting those words at him and shooting daggers with her large forest green eyes. Pushing the chair back, Hunter got up only to slump on his bed. Rolling onto his stomach, he typed his answer.

Devil:

Hm, let me guess,

You didn't see me maybe because you were busy avoiding me the entire day?

Why would you do that, by the way? Mind telling me?

Hera stared at his messages with her narrowed eyes while grinding her teeth in annoyance.

'Huh, the sassy asshole.'

Goddess:

What nonsense? Why would I avoid you?

Devil:

You weren't there in the library, nor did we meet during lunch break, and I was waiting for you at the entrance while you probably escaped through the back gate. We never once saw each other at school. It's clear you're avoiding me. Why, though?

Pulling the blanket over her legs, Hera crossed her arms and threw her head back, eyeing the ceiling. She no longer felt the need to respond to his messages, but the phone kept vibrating against her thigh.

Cursing a string of swear words in her mind, Hera read the message.

Devil:

Is it because of what happened in the morning at home? Are we fighting again?

Goddess:

What are you talking about, Hunter? What happened in the morning?

Devil:

I don't know, you tell me. Did something happen?

Goddess:

I don't know, you tell me. Did something happen?

Hera threw his words back at him and smirked in satisfaction, knowing it would annoy him more. Hunter scowled and threw his head back, grunting his anger out. He exhaled through his nose and shook his head, trying to curb his budding anger.

Devil:

Yes, Goddess, I think so. I thought we were having a moment, and as usual, you had to ruin it.

Hera bit the inside of her cheek. His words stung more than they should. Furiously she typed her reply, thumb tapping the keyboard with much more aggression.

Goddess:

You're the one who seemed off in the morning. Something changed before you rushed into the bathroom. I didn't do anything shitty you're accusing me with, Hunter.

It irked Hera more that he was pretending to be ignorant, and Hunter was annoyed that she was beating around the bush.

Devil:

If only you could open up. It would save my time and energy. I thought you knew I wouldn't force you to do anything out of your comfort zone. Guess I'm wrong. I don't understand what goes on in your stupid head.

Goddess:

Mind your fucking tone, Hunter. I feel the anger radiating from your every word. I can tell you're yelling at me through your messages.

Devil:

Yeah, right, and I love how sweetly you're sugar-coating your every word. I can sense the sugar rush in my veins.

I feel so loved, Goddess.

Hera glared at the screen. The sarcasm in his message only intensified her anger, but before she could touch the reply window, the phone started ringing, flashing Hunter's face on the screen. Startled, Hera declined the call without thinking. It was more of a reflex action. She was confused and panicked for some reason.

'The fuck is wrong with me? Why am I avoiding speaking to him?'

Hera cursed in frustration and frowned at the dark screen of her phone. She knew she couldn't ignore him forever, and the phrase even sounded stupider in her mind.

'Now or later, whatever happens, I have to face the truth at some point in time.'

She nodded with determination and took a few deep breaths to calm her nerves.

A few minutes later, her phone lit up again, and another message popped in.

Devil:

Goddess, please do me a favour. Whenever you decide to fight with me, at least let me know what I did to upset you.

Maybe a valid reason or a heads up would help if you're going to give me the cold shoulder.

Anyways, I'm guessing we're still in the middle of an unofficial fight then? I don't know what you're assuming the reason to be, but I'm sure we can't find the logic in your baseless assumptions.

I don't know if I did something that hurt or offended you. I'm no magician nor a mind reader, Goddess, so I wouldn't know unless you tell me why we're fighting.

Hera knew that tone very well, so it was no surprise that Hunter was mad. The messages kept coming in, and Hera's lips jutted out in a sad pout. She was upset that he was fighting with her even through the text messages. She shook her head, pulling her upper lip between her teeth. freℯ𝓌e𝚋𝐧𝘰vℯl.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Another message cut straight to the point, and the salty water blurred Hera's vision.

Do you trust me, Goddess?

That was the big fat elephant in the room. Hera was confused with her jumbled feelings. She thought she trusted him, but Clara was so convincing and adding more to her dilemma, Adelaide planted doubts in her mind. She was so afraid of the thought of Hunter cheating on her. Hera closed her eyes, and the tears spilt out in a rush.

The image of Adelaide mouthing surprise flashed behind her eyelids. She saw how the girl smirked at her while wrapping her arms around his neck.

Hera recalled everything Clara said, her brain analysing every possibility.
