False Villain : Anunnaki System vs Demon Contract-Chapter 62 - 059. Choosen by Gilgamesh.
Chapter 62: 059. Choosen by Gilgamesh.
It was a quiet night with a bit of high temperature in the air. The clock struck 10 pm and Lana was asleep in her room.
Herman sat on a wooden chair on the porch smoking a cigarette and Reizel stood next to him smoking a cigarette.
The two men were enjoying their relaxing time away from the tiring work after a sweaty day.
"You must be wondering why I keep kalomba, right?" asked Herman who opened the conversation while exhaling cigarette smoke out of his mouth.
Reizel’s attention was now fully focused on his father’s words. He didn’t answer out loud but his head nodded slowly.
"Do you think the world is fair?" Herman asked his son. freewebnøvel_com
"Why do you ask like that, dad?" replied Reizel who immediately put out his cigarette so he could chat with more clearance.
"You should already know the answer. That also includes wealth. No matter how hard we work, we’ll still be poor."
"That’s why Lana goes to school, right?"
"Reizel, how much do you think it would cost to send your sister to that kind of school and buy her an internet package every month?"
Reizel was silent, she had never thought that far ahead.
"Not to mention the cost of electricity and money to buy food," Herman continued, followed by one puff of cigarette then exhaled the smoke.
"But I can still buy snacks for Lana," Reizel responded swiftly.
Herman smoked his cigarette for the last time and immediately threw away the cigarette that was only left with the butt.
"You don’t understand what I mean, do you? I’ll change the question. Do you think the money from the coffee farm can cover all that stuff?"
Reizel was once again silent as he had just realized that even though they had only been renting land for coffee farming all this time, he didn’t know how his father make a living just by being an ordinary coffee farmer.
Although Reizel still helped with the family finances, the majority of the economic expenses were paid by his father. Now, Reizel was even more curious about how they had been able to live this far.
Herman lit another cigarette for him to smoke. "That’s what kalomba is for."
Now Reizel couldn’t understand what was going on.
"What’s the point of kalomba? They’re just creatures that eat coconut pulp and crash into houses in the middle of the night," replied Reizel who was skeptical of the mystical creatures his father mentioned.
Herman exhaled his cigarette smoke out of his mouth. "That’s what I wanted to tell you. Besides what you said earlier, Kalomba can also bring good luck to those who keep them."
"Luck?"
"Yeap, a bountiful harvest is one example. Basically if luck is on your side, you won’t be that poor."
"But, isn’t this wrong? I mean, kalomba are dangerous creatures. Raising that creature is not the same as raising chickens or cows," responded a slightly worried Reizel.
Herman stood up and went straight to his son. He patted his son on the shoulder. "We are poor people, we need luck. Besides, I got this from your grandfather. It’s been passed down to me, I’m just using it."
The old man walked into the house, leaving Reizel who was now lost in thought as he imagined the dilemma he was temporarily in.
Reizel sat on the chair where his father sat before and immediately leaned his back while looking up at the night sky.
The man sighed heavily then muttered. "I don’t think it’s the wrong thing to do, but I still don’t think it’s the right thing to do either."
Keeping a creature like a kalomba is a dangerous thing but then again, his father’s words have a point.
Poor people need luck and they really need luck, especially....
Reizel suddenly imagined the figure of an adult Lana while wearing a graduation outfit.
"Enough luck to at least make her go to college...." muttered Reizel who sighed heavily once again.
After a few minutes of pondering on the terrace, the wavy-haired man decided to go inside the house and immediately locked the door.
He turned off all the lights then walked towards his room. A small bedroom that was only enough for a small wardrobe for clothes, and a small mattress that was enough for one person to use.
After a conversation with such heavy topic, Reizel wanted to sleep quickly because he had a busy day ahead.
He turned off the bedroom light and lay down on the bed. It didn’t take long for his consciousness to shift from the real world to the dream world.
Unfortunately, the statement from his father was not the heavy information that would close his day.
In the dream, Reizel found himself in the middle of a large and luxurious room.
As far as the eye could see, there were only items made of gold. High walls made of gold. Large pillars made of gold and also decorated with expensive diamonds. Furniture made entirely of gold and diamonds.
In the midst of that luxury, Reizel’s eyes suddenly saw a man in golden armor, sitting on a throne that was also made of gold.
The tall man looked like an old man in his sixties, but his large body was more like he was in his thirties.
His hair was white and his beard and mustache were the same color.
The man smiled at Reizel. "Be grateful, human. You will be one of the people who will change this world."
Reizel didn’t understand what was happening, but he suddenly remembered his sister’s words and realized that the internet gossip Lana had mentioned was true.
The man swallowed his saliva as he looked at the man who seemed to be Gilgamesh.
-------------------------------------------
It was a hot noon with the heat piercing the skin. Unfortunately that was no reason not to work, even if it was the hard work of a construction worker.
While everyone else was busy and focused on doing their part, Reizel’s mind was still reeling from what he had just experienced last night.
His father kept kalomba which turned out to be a hereditary tradition and also he had a strange dream about Gilgamesh which was probably just a random dream that had no meaning.
As he was stirring the cement, everyone around him suddenly fell silent while looking up to something in the sky.
Reflexively, Reizel also looked up and found a giant disk floating in the air.
He was still puzzled by it and why everyone suddenly stopped what they were doing to look at it.
Not long after, Reizel felt something strange. Like a nonstop wave that continuously hit and shook his brain and all the cells in his body.
He felt nauseous and immediately knelt on the ground while trying to catch his breath.
"What... What... Actually... Happened?" Reizel asked as if he hoping someone would explain why he was dizzy and nauseous for no reason.
