Hogwarts, Great Hall
October 31st, 1994, 17:30
Alex finds himself sitting at a table in the Great Hall—a table behind the teachers’ tables, partly hidden from view of the students. Next to him are Tereza, Menchi, and Rishi. One more ‘girl’ is sitting on Alex’s head, munching on various food items, mostly chicken legs. After noticing that she can eat almost every type of food with no problems, Jewel has been constantly eating cooked meats and other dishes, no longer just raw meats like before.
There are four more tables where the other teams are sitting. Alex notes that not a single person has died until now, except for their own group members and maybe the mafia team, which is nowhere to be found. However, the absence of the Mafia team is still quite the shock to him. Alex doesn’t know the details, but he suspects that this team was kicked out of Hogwarts for failing to contribute enough, partly because of their hostile behavior and their actions regarding Harry Potter and the attempted theft of his Invisibility Cloak.
Suddenly, a chicken leg falls from Alex’s head and hits his nose on the way down to the table.
Jewel… please eat slowly, preferably without turning my head into a dirty dish. You can also just sit on the table and don’t need to stay on my head. These table manners are not really becoming of a princess, are they?
I’m sorry, dearest Soulmate. However, a princess will not leave her rightful place without a proper reason. This delectable chicken is just too tempting. It’s clearly not my fault. Your beautiful princess Jewel couldn’t help herself from taking a big bite. Please don’t be mad; I’ll lick it all clean, I promise ❤️!
No… it’s okay… Just eat. However, your standards are low. This garbage can’t compare to Menchi’s food.
Alex sighs. It took Jewel only a few weeks of daily training with Alex, aided by Rishi, to completely change her way of communication. Rishi, using Jewel as a study partner to learn about Legilimency and Occlumency, has constantly been talking to her, teaching her English, quickly moving into complicated topics like politics, philosophy, history, math, and even poetry, allowing Jewel access to any information she wishes, through his new abilities. Alex, however, is constantly telling her things about his life, his favorite movies, books, anime, and manga. Due to this constant diverse set of ‘education’, Jewel’s innate prodigious intelligence, and her connection with Alex—allowing her to access all of Alex’s knowledge—Jewel’s literacy has skyrocketed to levels most humans, including Alex, will probably never reach.
While eating, Alex looks at Rishi and can’t help but remember the casual words he said just a few weeks ago: “It’s good to finally have someone to talk to about deeper, nuanced topics,” shocking Alex that Jewel is already on such a level that, in Rishi’s mind, she surpasses Alex, Tereza, and Menchi.
“Yawn, it’s so boring if we all know the big surprise already, isn’t it?” Alex complains, seeing Menchi smiling at him—or, more precisely, at his head.
Jewel, despite not being able to talk, has learned to skillfully weave her web into messages, allowing her to communicate with others. Thanks to her elevated position on Alex’s head, Alex himself doesn’t even realize when she’s ‘talking’ with the others.
“Jewel told me you praised my food, calling today’s meal trash? That’s so nice,” Menchi says with a grin, happy about the compliment.
“That’s for sure. This is beyond trash,” Tereza says, stuffing her face with pudding.
So why are you stuffing your face with it then, huh?
Alex feels Jewel weaving a message and Tereza staring at it with an angry expression.
“I’m eating because I’m not trying to insult the house elves. It’s called politeness, Jewel. Don’t ask silly questions.”
It’s quite hard to argue with peasants, isn’t it? I’m growing a bit tired of having these silly arguments. Thankfully, my dearest Soulmate agrees with me, right?
Sure… I’d wish you’d start telling me what you’re writing at the same time so I can actually understand what you’re saying. It’s hard to agree with something I’m not aware of… though I trust you, and your arguments are usually logical.
Jewel’s thoughts are only for her Soulmate, not others. I couldn’t stoop so low and just repeat Jewel’s words directed towards the peasants to you as well, my dearest Soulmate.
“Alex, you need to tell me, how does Jewel sound in your mind? Arrogant, boisterous, looking down on others? Seriously, this smug spider has been getting out of hand lately. You’re obviously not strict enough, letting her walk all over you!” Tereza complains.
“She sounds kinda cute and sweet, and for once, I’m not the target of this foolishness, which I’m actually quite enjoying if I’m being totally honest… however, there may be a tiny speck of truth in what you’re saying. But it’s too late anyway. She’s already way beyond our control now, in terms of growing up—forget about being strict. That ship’s sailed,” Alex responds, not denying that he was indeed very soft toward Jewel.
“Jewel is a very logical person. As long as your argument is valid, she won’t trouble you,” Rishi adds, strangely protective of Jewel since he and Alex were mostly responsible for raising her.
“...It’s thanks to your garbage lessons that she’s constantly looking down on us, laughing at our lack of knowledge, and trying to ‘educate us.’ You should be the last one talking about logic now, you idiot. This is mostly your fault as well,” Tereza chugs down her pumpkin juice and attacks Rishi with a pouting face.
“As much as I’m enjoying this discussion, I hope it starts soon,” Alex says, sighing again.
Suddenly, the food on the tables disappears, signaling the end of the Halloween feast. Dumbledore stands up, swiftly walking toward the students, standing around the Goblet of Fire, burning with blue flames.
“Sit down, please. And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for—the champions’ selection,” Dumbledore says in a stern manner.
Alex sees how the blue flame turns into a mystifying red one as it spits out a name.
“The Durmstrang champion is… Victor Krum,” Dumbledore announces.
Shortly after, the process repeats itself and he calls out: “The Champion for Beauxbatons is Fleur Delacour.”
“The Hogwarts champion, Cedric Diggory,” Everyone claps excitedly.
“We now have three champions, but only one will go down in history, only one will hoist this chalice of champions, this vessel of victory—the Triwizard Cup!” Dumbledore says, trying to hype up the event.
Everyone goes mad as the Triwizard Cup is revealed, but directly after, the Goblet of Fire turns bright red again, spitting out one more tiny entry paper, which Dumbledore quickly grabs and reads: “Harry Potter? Harry Potter!”
“What a surprise, huh?” Alex loudly jokes as he can’t help but laugh at Dumbledore calling “Harry Potter” again and again like a total madman.
Since my Soulmate already knows what will happen, why don’t you take a more active approach? You could expose that ‘fake Moody’—that’s how you called him, right now, couldn’t you?
Instead of answering in his mind, Alex says: “It’s best to stick to the canon events. Any change is not necessarily good for us. If we don’t change anything major, we know what we’ll have to deal with. In fact, it would put us in danger if we get rid of him now, since we’re aware of his plans, and a change would only bring a random element into the mix, which we don’t want. I’m assuming the other teams are agreeing with us, since nobody took any step to change things.”
“Very true; it would be a stupid decision to throw the plot into disarray, especially when the current state of the board is in our favor. You only completely wipe the board if you see no path to victory,” Rishi states.
Alex stares at Rishi… “Are we going ahead with the plan?” slightly unsure, while all hell breaks loose around them—Karkaroff arguing with Dumbledore and everyone else being forced out of the hall, obviously the whole event ending in total chaos.
“Let’s do it, Alex… the serum arrived yesterday. We should use it now, especially because the other teams are close as well. Let’s gather, and then we can expose the traitorous team,” Tereza says, clearly intrigued. “My bet’s on the lesbian team.”
“Not this bullshit again!” Alex complains. “This is serious! Also, will they really accept these kind of q—”
“We’ll soon know. Under the Veritaserum, they’ll have to tell us the truth,” Tereza smiles, eager to find out the truth.
“You won’t be asking THAT question,” Alex states, not willing to ask something as pointlessly intrusive and private as this.
Silly peasant!
“Jewel, are you looking down on me again? Don’t think I won’t notice that smug expression. I swear, one day I’ll turn you into a real jewel for me to wear around.”
Alex sighs and notices the other teams getting up.
“...We have to move!! The other teams are already getting up. It’s better if we talk to them while they’re all together. If one team backs out, we’ve probably reached a conclusion as well,” Alex says, Rishi quickly leading the way toward the others, forcefully approaching them.
“A minute of your time? I have a proposal for everyone to consider,” Rishi says in his confident tone, the other teams curiously looking at him.
