Farmer or Cultivator? Why not both?-Chapter 42: Man vs Chicken part 1
[New Quest: Defeat the Awakened Rooster Rokku]
Ren’s eyes went wide-eyed, he was greatly surprised by this, taking a backstep in reaction to the message. Who would have thought a god would send such a specific quest? He didn’t. He turned to look at Rokku who simply stared at him. Ren wasn’t sure if the awakened bird was looking straight at him or was looking at his sides, the evolution did not particularly change the rooster’s eyes positions.
’Well what do I get in reward?’ If he was forced to do such an undignified act, then he needed to know that he would get well-compensated for it.
As soon as he had the thought, the message revealed more of itself:
[Reward]
[+10 Universal Coins]
[+1 mana replenishing potion(Alchemic mix)]
[+3 Favor points from the Lord of Balance and Order himself.]
[Time left to complete this quest: 1 hour and 25 minutes.]
[The god of trade and intelligence finds the match up highly interesting.]
[+7 Favor points from the god of trade and intelligence regardless of how the fight goes.]
[The goddess of compassion hopes you show mercy.]
[You will gain +2 favor points should you choose to leave the spirit animal alive and in a good condition.]
[The god of war craves bloodshed. Should you kill the spirit animal, you will gain +13 favor points.]
’+13, that’s a lot. And if I get to a certain number of favor points I could use them to purchase a lucky draw.’
A purple cloudy mist snaked its way to Ren’s nose when he wasn’t looking, he knew that scent more than he would like to admit. He turned, and behind him proud and humorous as usual was Enoa, with its short arms by its sides, and its eyes looking elsewhere like it was completely uninterested in what it was that was about to occur in front of it.
"What? What’s?!" It yelled, its small ears enlarging from the shock, becoming like those of a hare except they was rigid and hard, before they shrunk back once it composed itself.
"I was watching horses race you..." Enoa paused, turned to the feathery creature in its peripheral vision, and then it turned back to Ren. It zoomed at the man slowly, holding its right hand to its mouth, and whispered, "Is that a spirit animal?!"
The angel was greatly surprised by this. As much as there were few angels administered to the world of Enesh, the existence of spirit animals in the small world was even much smaller, they were a thing of wonder that even the cultivartors, scholars and magicians had not fully grasped.
Ren nodded at the angel affirming its suspicion, and then it backed up with a swift zoom back, and suddenly swerved about the awakened rooster like the start of a tornado.
Rokku was agitated by this, throwing up its wings and clucking. Seeing the angel communicate to Ren made him believe that Enoa was at the very least not a foe, and he had thought so until the creature began swirling about it. Rokku might have evolved but it still retained some of its primal instincts, and one of those was that flying creatures were bad news, it grew up knowing that they were predators, and Enoa seemed quite much like a predator as it hovered about it.
Before the rooster could tell however, its wings’ feathers sharpened as mana coated them, reinforcing them and making them as tough as steel. The rooster swiped its wings haphazardly in defense, and it made a clean swipe, catching Enoa’s torso completely off guard. The angel’s abdomen tore open, with organs spilling out to the ground, and a purple fluid draining like a fountain in the rainy season.
Ren gasped at the sight of this, stunned by such escalation. Enoa fell to the ground lifeless. He remained frozen at the sight, with Rokku still widely swinging its arms.
’Is it dead?’
Cute and small as they were, these messengers of the gods were no slackers, they were vulnerable, but they were far from defenseless.
Several speckles of light clustered about Enoa’s corpse, and suddenly there was a blip in space. The space holding Ren’s mass collapsed in a microsecond, and regenerated itself. Enoa’s disemboweled body blipped into an unscathed body, however its friendly visage had taken an extreme turn. It wore a hateful frown, eyes focused on the rooster who was now aware of what it had done. But almost just as soon as the frown came, it disappeared into a stoic neutral countenance, and it swiped the air to bring up Ren’s system.
"You have gotten a new quest, I see now. That’s why I am here. The gods want a witness. How long was I away that you have made yourself a new friend? How did you come across this one?"
" His name is Rokku, and yes, I suppose I could say he’s a.... friend."
’Maybe not, but he is going to be in charge of this place while I am gone.’
"Say, for this quest, it is fine if I leave Rokku alive."
The angel turned to the Rooster whose monocular eyes had it looking elsewhere. Rokku simply just remained an observer in their conversation.
"Let’s see. Yes! yes, spirit animals are such a rarity that even as much as the gods love to see them get punched for the funny noises they make, they do not want them dead. You can keep it alive if you want, but you could also kill it."
"Lord Carnagie would be glad you kill it, he is offering 13 favor points, that is a lot in a single go."
"What?! Shuush shuush!..." Ren uttered, trying to shut off Enoa, it was not supposed to say all that aloud. Of course he would not kill the spirit animal, he needed it, and it had not done anything deserving of death. Ren like many good men, hated killing unless there was a good justification for it.
"So, since I have been called here, I am here to judge your friendly battle, or whatever you call it. I get to call who wins. Rokku..." Enoa took a slightly different tone with the spirit animal, it forced a cheerfulness, it was either that or to unmask the rage at the spirit animal.
"You must fight Ren as much as you can. Fight with as much power you can muster, you both would benefit from a good spar as cultivators, and you could get favor from the gods, and possibly break certain barriers. Is that understood?"
Rokku closed his eyes briefly for about twenty seconds and then opened them, "Yes, I understand."
"Ren Hanaki," Enoa called out. "Are you ready?"
"I am ready."
