Farming In The Eastern Cultivation World-Chapter 70: Master or Meat?
"Boy, hurry up and teach her how to cultivate! Hurry, hurry! Don’t waste time!"
Bok Taejin silently looked up at the sky.
How could it be done so quickly?
The little girl had just eaten... Wait, eaten? It didn’t seem like she was full at all.
The little girl who had just finished the disciple ceremony tugged on Bok Taejin’s sleeve, her big eyes staring at him unblinking. "Big brother, hungry."
Second Uncle had already noticed it, so he went to fetch the bowl the little girl had used earlier and filling it with another serving of minced meat porridge.
After that he hand it over to her with one hand and patted the little girl’s head with the other. "Good child, eat up. Eat more."
Yoon Areum tilted her head in thought, her gaze still fixed on Bok Taejin, clearly waiting for his permission.
Bok Taejin took the bowl from Second Uncle and squatted down to be level with Yoon Areum.
The little girl let go of his sleeve and reached for the porridge.
Second Uncle marveled, "Such a well-behaved little girl."
Im Beomhyeon sneered, "Nonsense! She’s just missing a few screws in the head. She’s decided that since Taejin bought her, she’ll only listen to him! Won’t follow anyone else! I’m the one who paid for her! Taejin only had to move his lips! It was Taehyeon who carted her back!"
Bok Taejin gently held down Yoon Areum’s hand that was reaching for the bowl and spoke softly, "Rumi, you’ve officially become my disciple now. From now on, you need to call me Master, alright?"
The little girl bit her lower lip, thinking.
The scent of meat kept drifting into her nose.
At last, she asked, "If I don’t call you Master, I can’t drink the porridge?"
Second Uncle’s heart ached. He almost wanted to say, as long as the girl was willing, anything was fine. Whatever she wanted to eat, they’d give her, as long as the village had it—she’d never go without.
Knowing that the little girl’s intellect was somewhat lacking, Bok Taejin had to raise her properly. So Second Uncle barely managed to restrain himself, he turning around and pacing back and forth to burn off his anxious energy.
Bok Taejin’s heart ached too, but he had to be firm about the title. He nodded with a hard heart. "That’s right. If you don’t call me Master, you’re not allowed to eat."
Yoon Areum sniffled and called out with grievance, "Master..."
Only then did Bok Taejin allow her to take the bowl.
At the same time she immediately changed her tone. "Big brother."
Bok Taejin froze. He wanted to snatch the bowl back, but he was afraid the hot porridge might spill during the struggle and burn the little girl.
In that brief moment of hesitation, Yoon Areum had already scampered over to Second Uncle while clutching the bowl and drinking happily without caring how hot it was.
Second Uncle stopped pacing and protectively stood in front of her. "Taejin, you can’t rush teaching a child. Let Rumi eat her fill first!"
Im Beomhyeon leaned on Bok Taejin’s shoulder with glee. "How’s that taste, eh? I told you not to use Second Uncle to pressure me!"
Bok Taejin was already distressed over how to educate Yoon Areum in the future. Hearing that, he slapped Im Beomhyeon’s hand away in irritation. "Don’t you get tired leaning like that?"
He was still growing and hadn’t reached full height yet, so he was clearly shorter than Im Beomhyeon. That pose just wasn’t comfortable.
Im Beomhyeon laughed it off. "Tired? Not as tired as hauling goods up the mountain! Forget it! I don’t have time for you. I’m gonna go watch them pound meat."
As he spoke, he rubbed his chin and thought for a moment before glancing back at Bok Taejin. "Actually, the one who should really go is you."
Bok Taejin looked confused.
Im Beomhyeon grabbed his arm and started dragging him along while explaining as they walked, "I said I’d teach you martial arts before, but never got the chance. You should go watch how they pound the meat—you might learn something from it."
Despite being shielded by Second Uncle, and even though she was still lowering her head to drink porridge, Yoon Areum somehow sensed Bok Taejin was about to leave.
She quickly raised her head, not even caring about the porridge smeared above her lips and prepared to chase after him with the bowl in hand.
Second Uncle quickly said, "Rumi, do you want to eat more delicious things? Come with Second Uncle. Second Uncle will give you all sorts of tasty food!"
Hearing that Yoon Areum hesitated.
In her small head, what she remembered most clearly was what her mother had told her: once she was sold, she had to follow the person who bought her and listen to whatever they said.
But eating was also very important—especially after being hungry for so long today.
She’d never really had her fill before, and the food here was so delicious...
"You want to find Taejin, don’t you?" Second Uncle had already grabbed a small handful of walnut kernels meant for cooking and shook them in front of Yoon Areum.
"These are tasty too. Do you want to eat them? Taejin hasn’t gone far. At most, you’ll see him again at dinner tonight. Just stay with Second Uncle for now, okay?"
The balance in the little girl’s heart began to tip, but Bok Taejin’s weight still mattered the most.
Seeing the hesitation on her little face, Second Uncle pointed to the nearby jujube trees. "You can eat those too!"
With that small delay, Im Beomhyeon had already brought Bok Taejin to the spot.
The people who are pounding meat were busy just outside the ancestral hall in an open space, not far away.
Yoon Areum looked around carefully and could spot Bok Taejin’s figure if she focused a little.
Now that she wasn’t worried he had disappeared, the little girl happily continued eating while trying to calculate how many new tasty things she had earned.
However, she couldn’t figure it out, so she simply stopped counting—so long as it all went into her stomach, that was what mattered.
