Fate To Fake: Loved by the Fallen; Fated to Kill the Divine-Chapter 47: You should’ve gone for his head
Chapter 47: You should’ve gone for his head
Meanwhile, back on the mountain, Kai’s eyes bulged in utter disbelief, his entire face twisting in horror as he watched the scene unfold in the school below.
"What in God’s name is going on down there...?"
His voice trembled, more to himself than anyone else, as dread gripped his heart. But before he could even process what he was seeing—
SSSSSSNNNGGGG!
A searing green light exploded out of nowhere, flooding the battlefield with blinding radiance. Kai’s head snapped toward the source instinctively, eyes narrowing through the intense glow.
His breath hitched.
It was Pride.
Her body, once battered and barely moving, now shimmered with an overwhelming green aura. The deep wounds that had torn into her skin just moments ago were vanishing right before his eyes, her flesh stitching together rapidly as if time itself had reversed.
Sssnnnngggg...
Like a dormant circuit suddenly activated, the connection between her and her Master locked into place. The lost energy began surging back into her body like a broken link finally restored.
"The link... It’s been reconnected"
Envy muttered with a shocked face while struggling to stand up, and was wounded heavily.
"Nergal!!"
Kai yelled out in desperation.
Nergal flinched as his name echoed across the battlefield. Without hesitation, he growled and hurled his massive spiked ball at Pride, the weapon swelling in size midair—growing nearly ten times its original form, its spikes gleaming with fatal force, aimed straight for her face.
But just before it could strike—
Pride’s eyes shot open, glowing furiously with emerald green. Her lips curled into a confident, almost haunting grin as her platinum hair danced wildly in the swirling wind.
And then—
Slice!
In a single clean motion, she swung her blade upward. The colossal spiked ball was sliced neatly in half, the metal clanging and splitting as both halves crashed down beside her feet with a heavy thud.
Nergal snarled in rage and disbelief. Roaring, he yanked back his chain weapon and launched another volley—this time unleashing hundreds of smaller spiked balls in a relentless wave, all aimed to tear her apart.
But Pride didn’t even flinch.
Her grip tightened on her weapon. Her foot stomped against the ground with fierce determination, and in the blink of an eye, she vanished into motion. Blades whirled like a storm as she slashed down every incoming projectile with surgical precision. Not a single one touched her. Every spiked ball was cut clean midair before it even came close.
Then, in an instant, she accelerated—disappearing from sight.
A sonic pulse burst through the air.
By the time Nergal realized what had happened, Pride was already behind him, standing tall and composed. Her breathing was calm, her gaze sharp, her back turned to him as she slowly looked over her shoulder.
Chuckk...
Thud!
Thud!
Two loud, sickening drops echoed in the silence.
Nergal’s arms fell to the ground, severed cleanly from his shoulders. The weapon he wielded collapsed beside him, the golden spikes shimmering once more before they completely disintegrated into nothing.
The Doom that covered the School slowly disappeared.
And then—
Thud!
Nergal’s upper body slumped forward and dropped with a final crash, separated cleanly at the thighs. His remaining legs stood for a moment before they too crumpled beneath him.
He lay on the ground in a heap of severed limbs, eyes wide open in frozen horror.
Kai’s heart nearly stopped.
He took a single, terrified step back—only for a sudden burst of fire to explode across his face, throwing him to the side violently and sending him tumbling next to Nergal’s remains.
"Ahh—!"
Kai groaned, pain spreading through his ribs.
From the smoke, Valra emerged—drenched in water, hair clinging to her skin, her breathing ragged and heavy. Her face was twisted with rage and exhaustion as she stomped toward him.
"You thought you could just waltz in and destroy everything?!"
She spat, fury blazing in her eyes.
"Now it’s your turn to suffer, you bastard!"
Kai coughed, trying to rise, but his body betrayed him. Trembling, he gritted his teeth, forcing himself to sit up. But before he could make a move—
Pride’s blade pressed firmly against his neck.
He froze.
Kai clenched his jaw.
"...Fine. You win.... You’ve won this round..."
His voice was bitter, eyes darting between Valra and Pride. But then, a flicker of defiance returned.
"But you should’ve gone for his head!"
Without warning, he pulled a white stone from his pouch and slammed it against the ground.
SNG!
A blinding flash erupted, engulfing everything in white light. Everyone instinctively covered their eyes for a moment—just a heartbeat—and when it cleared...
Kai and his champion were gone.
Valra clicked her tongue in frustration.
Meanwhile—
A violent wave of water burst through the school’s entrance, splashing high and wide, extinguishing every remaining flame along the path. Steam hissed upward, and smoke began to clear.
The trapped students blinked, confused, but their confusion turned quickly to panic as survival instincts kicked in.
"Everyone, move! Get out! Move!!"
People screamed, shoving toward the exit. Students and staff scrambled, carrying unconscious children over their shoulders, dragging limp bodies across the wet floors. Every second counted as the creaking sound of crumbling beams echoed above them.
"Get out! NOW!"
Leo’s voice rang out above the panic. He charged through the crowd, pushing people out with both arms, clearing the path.
In the middle of the chaos, he spotted Raphael.
Without hesitation, he rushed to her and wrapped his arms around her.
"Are you alright?! Are you hurt?"
He looked her over with panic in his eyes, searching her body for injuries.
"I-I’m okay... I think I’m fine..."
Her voice trembled.
But before she could finish her sentence, Leo grabbed her hand and shoved her toward the exit.
"Get out first! Don’t argue!"
He didn’t wait.
As soon as she was clear, he turned and bolted back into the flame-filled building.
Leo’s eyes widened as he turned the corner of the smoke-choked hallway and saw them—Sakura and Luna—lying there on the scorched floor, their limbs sprawled and unmoving.
"Hey! Hey! Are you alright?!"
He dropped to his knees beside them in a heartbeat, slapping their cheeks softly, one after the other, desperation flooding his voice.
"Sakura! Wake up! Please!"
He tilted their heads gently, checking their breathing. They were still alive—faint, shallow breaths—but completely unconscious. The flames were beginning to thicken around them, heat rolling in waves as the ceiling above groaned dangerously.
"Damn it... I don’t have time..."
His arms trembled slightly as he gathered them up—one girl draped across each shoulder. Their bodies hung limp, completely reliant on him.
"I’ve got you... Just stay with me..."
He stood with effort, back arching under their weight.
He stumbled forward, feet crunching over broken glass and charred wood. Heat blasted from every direction. The smoke made his lungs burn.
But he didn’t stop.
He pushed forward, weaving between fallen beams, dodging cascading sparks. The hallway behind him collapsed with a thunderous crash, cutting off any retreat. He had only one way to go—forward.
"S-Senior..."
A weak murmur escaped from Sakura’s lips. Her face pressed against his shoulder, her voice nearly lost in the chaos.
That single word—his name—fueled his legs to move faster.
She had caught it again—that scent. The scent of him, warm and earthy, laced with ash and blood, but still comforting. Still familiar. Even as her mind faded, that smell brought her a fragile sense of peace.
Leo gritted his teeth.
"I’m here... Don’t worry. I’m not letting anything happen to you..."
He ducked low, leaping over a burning beam as it fell in front of him with a loud crash. Fire flared to his left, but he shielded the girls with his body, his shirt singeing as embers danced across his back.
And then—finally—he saw it.
The exit.
The sunlight poured through a gap where the flames hadn’t yet reached. Gasping, sweat pouring from his face, he made the final sprint.
"Leo!"
Raphael’s voice rang out as he emerged, coughing and stumbling. She rushed forward, eyes wide with relief and horror.
She caught both girls in her arms as he lowered them down carefully.
"I’ve got them," she whispered, checking their faces. "You did it... You got them out..."
Leo bent over, hands on his knees, panting heavily. His shirt was torn, his arms were burned, and ash clung to every part of him—but his face... his face showed something more.
Relief.
They were safe.
He managed to save them.
But just as the relief began to settle, a scream shattered it.
"HELP US!!"
Leo’s head snapped toward the building.
His ears twitched.
That voice... freēnovelkiss.com
It was familiar.
"No... not again..."
He turned around, breath hitching. Raphael saw the look in his eyes and reached out.
"Leo—don’t! You’ll die in there!"
But he was already running.
The hallway swallowed him again.
Smoke now burned white-hot against his skin. Explosions popped in the distance as structural beams cracked and dropped. Leo covered his head with his arms, shielding himself as he ran deeper inside.
"Where are you?! Keep shouting! I’m coming!"
He bellowed, his voice echoing down the collapsing corridor.
Just then, through the thick fog of smoke and glowing embers, he saw them.
The janitor.
The old woman stood trembling near the back of a scorched room, arms stretched protectively around two children—no older than six. Their faces were smeared with soot, tears cutting down their cheeks as they huddled close to her. Flames blocked every exit but one—and even that was fading fast.
"Janitor?!"
Leo’s voice cracked as he stumbled toward them.
The old woman turned. Hope bloomed across her tired face.
"L-Leo...?"
She looked as though she’d seen a guardian angel.
"You... you came..."
The two children turned as well, eyes lighting up through the tears.
"Big Brother!"
They cried in unison, and their tiny feet moved instinctively toward him, sprinting through the heat.
"It’s okay! Come to me! I’ve got you—"
And then his eyes caught something—something behind them.
His heart sank.
His pupils shrank.
The room behind them—
It was the storeroom. The one used for the upcoming Sports Festival.
Boxes upon boxes, shelves stacked full of firecrackers, magnesium powder, flares—everything highly flammable.
And now—
The fire had reached them.
"No... no, no—"
BOOOOOOMMMMM!!!
The entire storeroom exploded.
It wasn’t a simple blast—it was a chain reaction. Sparks erupted everywhere, fire swallowing the room like a beast unleashed.
For Leo, time slowed to a painful crawl.
He saw the fire stretching toward the janitor and the children like a tsunami of hellfire. He saw the terror in their eyes—the flicker of hope turning into dread.
"NOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
He screamed, louder than the flames themselves, as he hurled two glowing green rune stones straight toward them. They spun through the air as they reached them, but flames surged, swallowing everything in their path.... simultaneously.
The shockwave threw Leo back, his body suspended in midair.
The fire consumed everything.
His vision blurred. Smoke filled his lungs. Heat scorched his skin.
And then—
A hand grabbed him.
A hand he knew.
Right before he passed out, a blinding flash of green erupted from above him.
"LEO!!!!!!"
Raphael’s scream shattered the air like glass.
She dropped to her knees outside the building, eyes wide, hands clenched into the ground as she screamed with everything inside her.
