Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 114: Past Confession to him_Part 2
Her fingers moved with much more speed over the keys, playing her heart out while apologizing repeatedly to her sister between broken breaths.
"I am sorry, Ivy... I will find you if it’s the last thing I do. I will give you back double the amount of everything you once gave me. I will give you my life if you ask for it..." she whispered softly, her heart breaking into pieces with every promise she made.
Viola played the piano for the rest of the day, to the point that her fingers were barely able to move anymore. They trembled uncontrollably, aching from overuse. Shaking and drenched in cold sweat, she finally decided to rest her head on the cold surface of the piano.
She stared at nothing in particular, feeling loneliness consume her all over again, wrapping around her like a heavy fog. Turning her eyes slowly, she took in the vast space of the penthouse, filled with furniture meant for more than a single person, the long couch designed for a family, the extra chairs, the unoccupied guest rooms.
She thought the space was too big for her and couldn’t help but wonder if one day she would have a family in a house like this, where there would be no loneliness, where there would be no bitter regrets lingering in the air.
The darkness felt haunting now that the sun had gone down and all the lights were off in the house, expect for the city lights spilling in from the walls. The silence was suffocating and depressing, and the enormous windows that overlooked the beautiful city lights of Silver could make anyone feel extremely small and insignificant in comparison.
She couldn’t help but crave the desperate company of another being, but Zoe was busy making dresses, and Nick had left with his family to return to their main quarters, sending her a text that he would come back soon. She had no one to call and speak with, no one to talk to in order to stop this depression from swallowing her whole, no one to keep her from drowning in her thoughts.
All alone... that was what her fate seemed to be. That was what she was cursed with, perhaps. Loneliness.
Viola was on the brink of falling asleep in the embrace of her bitter loneliness when she thought she heard her phone ringing. Her eyes opened slowly, and she frowned in confusion, wondering who could possibly be calling her at this hour. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Without hesitation, she got up from the bench and walked back to where she had dropped the phone face down on the floor earlier. She picked up the call without even bothering to check who was calling. Was she truly that desperate for company?
"Hello..." she answered quietly, her voice as hollow and depressing as she felt inside her heart. She walked back toward the piano but instead of sitting down, she moved closer to the glass wall. She stared sightlessly at the city lights filled with life, though she knew many people out there were hurting alone just like her.
"Viola," his husky voice sounded in her ear, and for a second, she had almost forgotten she had even picked up a call. She moved the phone away from her ear and glanced down at it to confirm whether she had only imagined hearing his voice in her head or if he had truly called her.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the caller ID. She blinked at the sudden rush of emotion his voice brought to her, her fingers growing clammy as she recognized how painfully familiar this feeling was. But she couldn’t possibly be having it for this man...
"Sebastian..." she whispered his name, her slightly hazy mind not giving her any reason to avoid saying it. All she knew was that she felt a small pang of relief just from hearing his voice.
Sebastian’s insides warmed when he heard his name spoken so softly, and something told him immediately that she wasn’t fine. He had called her because he himself had been feeling strangely sad and lonely, a feeling he knew did not belong to him but could only be hers. Their bond was too strong; he could feel her emotions as if they were his own whenever they became overwhelming.
"What happened? Did someone upset you?" he asked, his voice smoothing into something warm and tender, like the comforting heat of summer. It was gentle, careful, like someone who truly cared about who might have hurt her.
"No one... I just feel..." she trailed off, unable to finish the sentence as her throat tightened painfully and her fingers curled tighter around the phone.
Sebastian, who had been sitting in his office, shot up to his feet abruptly. Matt, who was sitting on the couch nearby, looked up at him in confusion, but Sebastian ignored him completely at the sudden realization that something was definitely wrong. She would not sound this broken without reason.
He moved away from his desk, pacing slightly in his office space. "What do you feel, honey? Tell me. Why are you sad? Did I do something to upset you this morning, hmm?" Sebastian asked gently, his voice calm and coaxing, as though he were trying to soothe a frightened child. Matt continued watching him silently from where he sat, sensing the tension in the air.
"... "
Viola didn’t say anything. She was unable to explain to him how she felt or what had caused the overwhelming heaviness inside her chest. She kept staring at the distant lights of the other skyscrapers, wondering if she was finally losing her mind, if she was slowly going insane under the weight of her own guilt and loneliness.
"It’s nothing... I am okay," she lied, even though a part of her desperately wanted to ask him to come over and stay with her. But that was completely stupid, wasn’t it? Why would she want him to come? Was it because last night in his quarters and this morning she hadn’t had the chance to dwell on her past, since she had been too busy fighting with him and arguing?
He annoyed her endlessly, but even that irritating tension felt better than this hollow ache spreading through her heart, killing her soul.
Sebastian frowned at her words. Did she think he had been born yesterday to believe she was okay? He could feel her sadness as if it were a part of him, seeping through their bond and settling heavily in his chest. But rather than argue with her and insist that she wasn’t fine, he decided it would be better to go to her in person and make sure she didn’t end up hurting herself in her fragile state.
Holding the phone away from his ear for a moment, he turned to Matt and said, "I am retiring for the night. Handle the rest of the matters and send the documents back to the Red Moon Pack."
Matt rose to his feet, frowning. "What about Laila? She’s still waiting at your place, and you told her you’d meet her shortly. Don’t forget, it’s because of her that the Red Moon Pack is making this deal with us."
Sebastian didn’t even hesitate. "Give her any excuse. Viola needs me more, and I can’t let her be by herself in this state. Goodnight."
Saying that, he didn’t wait for Matt’s reply and strode out of his office, heading straight toward his private elevator with long, urgent steps.
