Chapter 31: Hot Blooded Cousin

Heaven’s POV

The moment we stepped into the grand hall, it was like nowhere I had ever been before. It was so beautiful. There were lots of people maybe hundreds and they all looked like royalty. Some were probably members of the pack, but they were all classy.

All of the guests wore clothes made of fine material, some dresses were long and others were short. Even the walls were covered in elegant wallpaper.

There was the clinking of glasses mixed with soft music playing in the background.

I clutched my green dress as I was suddenly feeling overwhelmed. Even though Becca assured me that I would be fine, I was still feeling like a little girl playing dress up. These people were powerful, and here I was, a former servant walking with four powerful wolves.

As soon as we fully entered the room, a man started walking toward us. He was handsome, with black curly hair that fell to his forehead and striking features, had a smirk on his face. This had to be Alpha Remus, the one who organized the ball.

He walked towards us and his eyes first landed on the quadruplets, then shifted to Sofia and me.

"Which one is the Luna?" he asked, loud enough for people nearby to hear.

He looked at Sofia first, then at me as he stared for a while.

I saw Sofia excited beside me, she already had a wide smile on her face and she looked like she was ready to speak, to tell everybody that she was the true Luna, but she didn’t get the chance to do so.

"Oh, this must be the Luna," Alpha Remus said.

He completely shifted away from Sofia and came to stand in front of me directly.

I froze, I didn’t know what to do. He took my hand in his. Before I could even think of pulling my hand away, he bent forward and kissed the back of my hand softly.

I didn’t know how to react so I just smiled at him. It was a small shy smile.

I was scared but he was being nice to me. He was the first.

Suddenly, Damian possessively pulled my waist closer to him. He didn’t say anything, but it was obvious that he wanted to let Remus know that I was taken. He was claiming me right in front of everyone.

I looked to the side and saw Sofia, she wasn’t smiling anymore. Her face was red and she was staring at me with so much hatred. I swear if looks could kill, I would already be dead on the floor. She was totally angry that Alpha Remus had noticed me first and that he picked me over her.

"Yeah, she is," Damian said coldly. He wasn’t being polite, it was like he was marking his territory.

Remus didn’t feel intimidated by Damian’s reaction, he just chuckled and finally released my hand, then looked at the quadruplets with a smile.

"Who in the world organizes a ball in the morning?" Desmond said sarcastically, as he crossed his arms over his chest. He looked around the hall with disgust as if the brightness of the morning could burn his skin.

"How are you faring, Cousin?" Damian said. He stepped forward and smiled at Remus, but it was not a friendly one;, it was the kind of smile wolves give each other just before they fight.

"I see you still like to organize balls on our behalf," Damian said, enraged.

Wait! Did Damian just call him Cousin? My heart was beating fast as I looked at Alpha Remus again, and then it suddenly clicked.

Oh, Goddess. I remember him. The memory of him that came to me was only the embarrassing ones. I quickly looked down, hoping that he wouldn’t recognize me.

"Aren’t I the best?" Alpha Remus said to Damian sarcastically. He looked very pleased with what he had done.

Then Alpha Remus turned to me. "Aren’t you going to properly introduce me to your mate?"

"Of course," Dylan said as he stepped forward. He looked more relaxed out of the four.

"This is Heaven," Dylan said pointing toward me. "And Heaven, this is Remus, our hot blooded cousin."

I nodded politely, but inside me, I just wanted to disappear. Please don’t recognize me, just see me as the Luna and leave it like that.

"Heaven, that’s such a beautiful name. But... I feel like I’ve seen you before," Remus said.

"Fuck!" I yelled in my head. He was about to recognize me. I felt the blood draw from my face completely and I turned white. I looked at the quadruplets, then at Sofia. Now was the time for her to interrupt and take the shine so that she would distract him from me, but she didn’t.

She just stood there quietly.

Remus narrowed his eyes as he looked at me. He tilted his head to the side. Then, he suddenly snapped his finger loudly.

"Now I know!" Remus said, pointing his fingers at me as if he had just found a valuable gem.

"You’re the Beta’s daughter, yes! How could I have forgotten you? I used to run around with you when we were kids. And I remember... I tried to kiss you, but you pushed me?" Remus explained, laughing and shaking his head.

I felt my face turn bright red. I remembered that day so clearly. He had cornered me near the gardens, thinking he was so smooth, and I was terrified.

"You remember me, right?" Remus asked. He took a step closer to me. He was eager to hear my response. "Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten me."

I looked past him and saw the quadruplets roll their eyes in unison. They looked so done with him.

Of course I remembered him. How could I have forgotten him? He was the quadruplets cousin, but he was also their biggest rival. They had always been competitive among themselves. Everything was a contests to then, running, fighting, studying. They were always trying to beat one another, It was a headache just watching them, let alone being around them.

I remembered one summer day in particular. Remus had asked me to be his girlfriend. We were just little kids, barely seven or eight years old. He had walked up to me with his chest puffed out demanding that I be his girl. But I didn’t like him, not even a little bit.

Back then, even though the brothers were sometimes mean to me, I still cared about them. Remus was different, he was arrogant and wicked. He would always make the quadruplets cry and feel sad whenever he won a game against them. He would tease them until they ran away sad. Seeing them cry always made my heart hurt. So, I had rejected him. I had told him straight to his face that I hated him a lot, and that I would never be his girlfriend because he was mean to my boys.

Remus was still staring at me, waiting for an answer. I was unable to speak, I wished that the ground would just open up and swallow me whole so that this torture would be over.
