Fated to the Triplet Alphas-Chapter 55: Can Help
**************
Chapter 55
~Jade’s POV~
"Xavier."
His eyes briefly changed to their lovely blue before turning red again.
My feet betrayed me. I did not know where the confidence came from, but seeing Xavier, the most composed of the Alpha Triplets, attack a student, I rushed forward.
"Xavier, please stop." I pulled him back. His jaw clenched. "Look at me," I said firmly.
For a moment, he did not. Then slowly, he did.
The fury in his eyes softened just slightly. "Jade," he said, and even through the anger, my name sounded strained.
"What happened?" I asked softly, but when I got no response, I hollered. "Xavier, what’s going on? Why did you attack him?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"He..." he fell silent. His lips trembled as though he was holding back from speaking the truth.
On the other hand, the boy swallowed hard. "I... I didn’t do anything wrong. I was joking."
My stomach twisted. "Joking about what?" I demanded.
He was silent for some seconds, then he muttered, "I said that you... you dress like you’re asking for attention."
Heat rushed through me, but not embarrassment this time. Anger.
Xavier’s chest rose heavily. I knew he was probably going to attack the student.
I glanced at the frightened student. "You... run." He glanced up at Xavier first as though waiting for some sort of command from him. "Now," I added, this time with more force in my tone.
He made a run for it as fast as his feet could take him. Ignoring the audience we had, I turned to face Xavier.
He shut his eyes and turned his head away. I knew he was still there, fighting with some semblance of control to prevent himself from going berserk.
"Xavier, look at me."
"I can’t." His chest heaved, his fingers balled into fists. I panicked, fear coursing through me. Just seeing him like this made my heart clench.
"Talk to me. Tell me. I can help."
At the mention of that. Xavier opened his eyes. They were red once more. "How can you help when this happened because of you?" he snapped.
I was taken aback, and instinctively, my hand let go. My heart ached. How was this about me? I... I had offered myself to them to help save them.
How was it my fault that he was spiralling?
My mind was clouded with the pain of being accused, and I was tempted to back away. But then his eyes flashed back to blue, and in them I saw a softness that made my heart ache.
My brows creased. "Xavier, it’s not just what he said, is it? Tell me, please. What happened?" I asked, ignoring the obvious hurt he was projecting at me.
"I... he spoke rudely about you. Worse than the lie he gave. I—I just couldn’t accept all the rude comments anymore and then... You can guess the rest."
I didn’t know what to say, considering he was right.
It was because of me. Usually, Xavier may have ignored, but since the curse was activated, they were on a loose leash.
"That was sweet, sir. However, the way you went about it would leave the disciplinary committee on your tail."
My heart flew into my mouth. I half turned to see Ziva giving us a sad smile. It was then that I fully registered that Ziva was still standing there.
My fear must have been mirrored in my eyes because the next second, she waved it off with a smile. "I’ve got your back. I won’t spill."
I should have been relieved, but now I wasn’t sure anymore.
"Don’t be scared. I mean it. I won’t spill, as long as he doesn’t." She flashed me a softer smile. "I’m kidding, but that douchebag deserved it. That being said, take him out of here. Our tour can be postponed to further notice."
I could not explain the gratitude that filled my heart. "Thanks."
With that, she walked off. I held Xavier’s hand and pulled him away from that area to avoid anyone from coming to meet us.
Just as soon as we were out of earshot, I questioned. "You were going to hurt him over that?"
Xavier’s voice dropped lower. "He does not get to talk about you like that."
The possessiveness in his tone made a few students exchange uneasy glances as we passed.
Ignoring them, I exhaled and replied rather sharply. "You do not get to threaten students in the hallway either."
Xavier’s nostrils flared. "Xavier," I continued, lowering my voice but keeping it firm, "you are making this worse."
Xavier ran a hand through his hair, frustration rolling off him in waves. "He should not have said that," he muttered.
"And you should not have reacted like that," I countered.
His eyes flickered back to mine, the Alpha glow fading but not gone entirely. "You think I can just listen to that?" he asked.
I stepped closer, lowering my voice so only he could hear.
"You think I need you fighting every boy who opens his mouth?"
Something shifted in his expression. It wasn’t anger, just more like conflict. For a long second, I thought he might ignore me, but he didn’t.
We had barely walked for two minutes when someone rushed past us, crying. We halted, then looked up to see the door to the guidance counselling office open, and Xade came out looking intimidating.
"You too?" Xade glared at us, particularly at where our hands connected.
"This keeps getting better," Javelin muttered.
"Nothing for you to worry about. Just a student who can’t handle the blunt truth," Xade briefed me. "Besides, since when did you start babysitting us?"
Xavier pulled his hand from mine and looked away.
Was he serious right now?
I scoffed internally. "Well, since you all lost control." I could see the guilt wash over Xavier. "Since you obviously do not need me and can handle yourselves, then go ahead and do so, but please no more episodes revolving around me."
Saying that, I walked away before Xade could say anything. Before I went far, I heard Xavier exhale and berate his brother, but they were not my concern anymore.
