Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 344: Death wish.
Kael.
"She wouldn’t like them!" I snarled for the nth time today as I paced from one end of the room to the other. My legs ached from walking so much and being so tense, but did that make me want to stop? Did that make me feel any better?
Of course, it didn’t.
Every now and then, I would walk up to my phone, pick it up and glance at the screen, half expecting to see a text or a call from Leilani, but there was nothing. She was radio silent and I feared that her silence had everything to do with the death of her father, Ragnar.
It had everything to do with the fact that she would— could— never bring herself to forgive us, and I... I do not know if I could live with that.
And it is for this reason that Caelum had come up with a very weird solution: which is to bombard her with gifts.
He believed that gifting any woman would make them less angry regardless of what the problem was, and while I didn’t fully buy that idea, I went along with it anyway because come to think of it, money has never been a problem for us.
"She would come around!" He snapped at me, his voice seeping into the many voices now plaguing my mind like the fucking plague itself.
I sighed and turned away from him, unwilling to listen to any more of what he had to say. I had listened and agreed to spoil her with gifts, and what has that yielded us?
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
I walked up to my phone for what felt like the umpteenth time and this time, just like the other times I checked, there was still nothing.
Zevran sighed. "I should’ve known that Leilani is different from other girls. Goddess, she must’ve thrown them out."
The idea of her throwing out those items I had used all morning to pick out made me feel bad. So bad that I didn’t even realize when I sank into a chair nearby until my back pressed against its softness. I drawled; "Let’s just call her."
"And say what?" Zevran hissed. "And say we’re sorry for killing her father in cold blood? Do you know how insane that sounds?"
"I know. I know how insane it sounds but I am willing to sound insane for her sake." I said sharply, causing both Zevran and Caelum to turn to look at me.
For a couple of minutes, none of us said anything until Caelum sighed, and I immediately knew that he was about to say one of his usual nonsense. He drawled;
"Or we could tell her that I am ready to... you know... do the exchange program."
"Stop talking about it like it’s some job or something!" Zevran snapped, exasperatedly, his face darkening so much, I feared he would literally implode. "We’re not going to allow you to die simply because you’ve decided to become some sort of messiah or something." And then turning to me, he sharply added; "And you, we do not have to call her or anything! Let’s just give her some space to think and live without making her feel uncomfortable. She will come around!"
I didn’t fully believe him but after hearing his words, I snapped my lips shut and sighed. At this point, I didn’t know what to think or say anymore. I didn’t even know what to believe, and even though I was sure as hell that Leilani could never just cook up stories from the top of her head, there was still this voice at the back of my skull. There was this voice that kept trying to convince me that she might be wrong.
She may have been given the wrong information or told the wrong thing. You know, something like that.
My phone dinged just then, and I jumped at it, half expecting it to be Leilani, but to my utmost bewilderment, it wasn’t her.
It was a text from James, the guy we had sent to drop off the items with her. It read;
She refused the gifts, Alpha.
Those words... constituted only a single line, but it told me everything I ought to know. It also filled me with the most embarrassment and disappointment that I’ve ever felt in my life. I frowned.
I was however just about to text him, informing him of what to do with the gifts when another text came in. It read;
She distributed them to her colleagues and asked me to tell you to stay away from her. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
And goddess, as soon as I heard those words, or read in this situation, I immediately had this irresistible urge to hurl my phone against the wall. But deciding against it, I shot him a quick text saying thank you and shoved my phone into my pocket.
"We’ll have to wait for a very long time then," I hissed angrily, "...because I just learned from James that she refused the gifts we sent to her and then went ahead to distribute them amongst her colleagues."
And as soon as I said that, everyone’s face darkened. Zevran turned and walked away leaving just I and Caelum behind.
Seizing that opportunity, Caelum turned to me, his voice pleading as he whispered; "Let’s just go with my plan..."
"No." I snapped in annoyance, "...if you have a death wish, then make sure you find somewhere else to die. You don’t have to drag innocent Leilani into it."
"I do not have a death wish!" He shouted at me but I simply rolled my eyes.
"Well, it looks to me like you do," I fired back, "...and it also looks to me that you’ve been trying to use this opportunity to get it."
"Kae—"
"No," I snapped, "...my answer is still no." I said, and with that, I turned around and walked away, leaving him shouting words at me. But I paid no attention to any of them.
I was done with his shenanigans.
