Felicity's Beast World Apocalypse-Chapter 33: Acceptance
The road had gone quiet after the fight. Fog drifted slowly through the hollow remains of buildings that flanked the highway, blurring their broken outlines into soft grey shapes. The world felt muffled, like it was holding its breath.
Snow Team had stopped without needing to say why.
The land had been changing for hours now. Fewer wandering dead. Tracks in the dirt that weren’t days old. Signs of patrol routes and careful clearing.
Vineyard territory wasn’t far.
Victor stood in the center of the cracked asphalt, eyes fixed on Damien.
For a long moment no one spoke.
Finally Victor said, "I want a test."
His voice was calm.
Not angry.
Not hostile.
Just inevitable.
Damien didn’t look surprised "Of course you do."
"No interference," Victor said. "Just us."
Sarge huffed quietly from where he leaned against a rusted transport carcass "Wasn’t planning to referee."
Kai folded his arms.
Rose rolled her shoulders and stepped back, vines sliding lazily into the cracks of the road.
Voss said nothing. But his attention shifted between the two men carefully.
Victor’s gaze never left Damien.
There was no challenge in it.
Just evaluation.
Damien stepped forward first.
The road ahead widened between two collapsed factory structures, leaving a patch of open pavement scarred by old battle damage.
"Here?" Damien asked.
Victor nodded once.
"It’ll do."
The others spread out around the perimeter of the clearing.
Felicity stayed near the edge of the road.
Voss moved with her without thinking, stopping just close enough that their shoulders brushed lightly when she shifted.
She leaned against him immediately.
Comfortable.
Like she belonged there.
Her hands came up and covered her eyes dramatically.
"I’m not watching," she announced, a second passed. Then her fingers parted slightly.
She peeked through them.
Kai snorted.
"You’re absolutely watching."
"I am emotionally protecting myself," Felicity said.
Voss huffed quietly beside her. His arm shifted slightly behind her back so she could lean more comfortably against his chest.
Victor noticed.
The air tightened slightly around him. Not enough that anyone else would notice.
But he did.
The fight began.
Victor moved first.
His power stayed coiled tightly against his body, heat and frost threading together along his skin as he stepped into the first strike.
Every movement was controlled.
Measured.
Damien answered with precision.
Curses unfolded in careful layers, poison that slowed but didn’t kill creeping through Victor’s limbs before being burned away by flashes of heat and ice.
Angles bent.
Force redirected.
The fight stayed quiet.
Deadly.
Efficient.
Felicity peeked through her fingers again."Oh no," she whispered.
Voss glanced down at her.
"You’re fine."
"I know I’m fine," she said.
"I’m worried about them." Her fingers opened slightly wider so she could see.
Victor saw that too.
For a moment, as Damien twisted away from another strike, Victor’s gaze flicked toward the edge of the road.
Felicity leaning against Voss, hands covering her eyes.
Peeking.
The thought crossed his mind.
She’s cute.
He struck harder.
Damien avoided the blow by less than an inch.
The fight accelerated.
Victor pressed forward.
Damien redirected.
Dust lifted in slow spirals around their feet.
Felicity squeezed her eyes shut again, then peeked. Then shut them again "I don’t like this part," she muttered.
Voss’s mouth twitched slightly.
She shifted closer against him and his tail brushed lightly against her calf before stilling again.
The fight ended quickly after that.
Victor stepped inside Damien’s guard.
Damien redirected.
Victor anticipated.
His fist stopped an inch from Damien’s throat.
Perfect.
Damien didn’t flinch.
Victor held the position for a moment longer, eyes searching Damien’s face.
Then he lowered his hand.
"He doesn’t chase power," Victor said quietly.
"He carries it."
The tension dissolved all at once.
Sarge exhaled "Good enough for me."
Felicity dropped her hands.
"Oh thank god."
She hurried forward before anyone could stop her.
Victor barely had time to straighten before she reached him.
She rose onto her toes and pressed a quick kiss to his jaw "You’re terrifying," she said softly.
Then she turned and did the same to Voss, a small kiss against the corner of his mouth.
"You too."
Voss froze for half a second.
Victor said nothing.
Felicity slipped back between them like nothing unusual had happened. Her fingers reached out automatically.
One hand rested lightly on Victor’s forearm.
The other on Voss’s.
Her fingertip traced a tiny circle against Victor’s skin.
Then another.
Then a small heart.
Absentminded.
Comforting.
Victor went still.
Voss watched her hand carefully.
She did the same thing on his arm next.
Another tiny heart.
Soft.
Unthinking.
Tommy stared openly.
"...what is happening."
Sarge dragged a hand down his face.
"Stop narrating."
They resumed walking not long after. The road curved gradually toward the hills that surrounded Vineyard.
Felicity drifted between Victor and Voss as they walked. Every few minutes her hand lifted again.
Tracing little shapes against their arms.
Circles.
Hearts.
Idle movements born from comfort rather than intention.
Neither man stopped her.
Later, when darkness settled and they stopped to rest inside the hollow shell of a warehouse, Victor opened his space pocket again.
A mango appeared in his hand.
Felicity’s eyes lit up.
"You found another one."
Victor handed it to her.
The first bite made her hum quietly.
Tommy leaned over.
"That’s illegal fruit."
Felicity laughed and tore off a slice, handing it to Damien.
Another gift.
Then she leaned sideways against him.
Victor watched.
Not stopping it.
Just watching.
When she noticed, she lifted another slice toward him.
Victor crossed the room and crouched in front of her.
She fed him.
His breath brushed her fingers.
His teeth were careful, his tongue lightly licked her finger’s.
Immediately making felicity blush.
Afterward she reached up again and traced another tiny heart against his arm.
Then one on Voss’s shoulder when she leaned back.
Later, when sleep finally pulled at her, Felicity drifted toward Damien first.
Then instinct carried her back between Victor and Voss.
The mango had been the final betrayal. Sugar, warmth, the steady presence of people who could hold ground. Her body simply decided it was done pretending to be alert.
Her head tipped sideways against Victor’s shoulder first.
He didn’t move.
Then, sometime later, she drifted again, sliding slowly until her cheek rested against Voss’s arm instead.
Voss shifted carefully so she didn’t wake.
Her hand stayed loosely curled around the fabric of Damien’s sleeve where she had grabbed it earlier.
None of the men moved for a while.
The room stayed quiet except for the distant groan of wind moving through broken metal outside.
Finally Sarge pushed himself to his feet.
"Well," he muttered, stretching his back. "If she drools on any of you, that’s your problem."
Kai snorted softly.
The rest of Snow Team gradually settled down along the far wall, giving the small circle near Felicity space without making it obvious.
Victor still hadn’t moved. His arm remained behind Felicity’s back where it had settled when she leaned against him.
Across from him Damien leaned against the wall, one knee drawn up slightly, eyes half shadowed in the dim light.
Voss sat between them, maps still resting on his lap though he hadn’t looked at them in a while.
The silence lasted another minute.
Then Damien spoke.
"You didn’t have to test me." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Victor’s gaze lifted slowly.
"Yes, I did."
Damien nodded once like he had expected that answer.
Voss finally looked up from the map "You’re alive," he said plainly. "That already puts you ahead of most."
Damien’s mouth twitched faintly. "I’ll add that to my list of accomplishments."
Victor studied him for a moment.
"You understand what standing beside her means."
It wasn’t a question.
Damien’s fingers flexed slightly where Felicity’s hand still rested against his sleeve.
"Yes."
"She attracts danger," Victor continued.
"I noticed."
"You won’t always be able to stop it."
Damien’s gaze shifted briefly to Felicity’s sleeping face.
"I know."
Victor watched that moment carefully, "Then why stay?"
Damien didn’t answer immediately.
Outside, something metal clattered softly in the wind.
Finally he said, "Because leaving would be worse."
Voss huffed quietly "That’s about the only answer that works."
Victor didn’t smile. But some of the tension in his shoulders eased slightly.
Felicity shifted in her sleep.
Her fingers tightened unconsciously against Damien’s sleeve.
Then she turned her face toward Victor’s shoulder again, breath slow and warm.
Victor adjusted automatically, angling his arm so she settled more comfortably against him.
The movement was unconscious.
Damien noticed.
"So," he said after a moment, voice quieter now, "how long before she realizes she’s doing that on purpose?"
Voss’s ears flicked.
"Doing what."
"Collecting us."
Victor didn’t respond.
Voss leaned back slightly, glancing down at Felicity where she slept between them."She already knows," he said.
Damien looked thoughtful for a moment. Then he nodded "That makes sense."
Another quiet stretch passed.
Tommy’s muffled snore drifted from the far side of the room.
Kai muttered something under his breath and rolled over.
Victor finally spoke again.
"If you ever put her in danger.."
Damien cut him off calmly.
"I won’t."
Victor held his gaze.
The silence stretched again.
Then Voss said, almost lazily, "If either of you start a fight in this room, I’m throwing you outside."
Damien exhaled softly.
Victor leaned back against the wall again.
Felicity slept through all of it.
