Chapter 636 To Your Advantage
In the spring, the days were brief in the countryside, the lotus-patterned curtains radiated warmth, and the delightful beauty therein was beyond description to outsiders. Atop the Thousand-Forsake Peak, only the two of them were present. Lin Wanrong had stayed on the mountain for several days, standing atop the peak each day to watch the sunrise and sunset with the Fairy. In the midst of the magnificent splendor, it seemed even his spirit had ascended.
Ning Yuxi, known as the Fairy herself, shone even more brilliantly after marriage, bathed in the glow of love. With her rosy cheeks and lips, she appeared shy yet joyful, like a flourishing hibiscus nourished by affection, exuding elegance and beauty beyond compare. As newlyweds, their love was deep and tender, seemingly forgetting the distinction between the heavenly realm and the earthly world.
"Sister, look, what is this?!" Lin Wanrong exclaimed with joy, scooping up a lively white fish over a foot long from the water, proudly gesturing to the Fairy.
The peak was rarely visited, surrounded by lush forests and wildlife at peace with nature, even the fish in the clear springs were extraordinarily plump. Gazing at the struggling fish tail in his hand, the Fairy couldn't help but feel compassion, "All beings have life, we should not take it lightly. Let it go, please!"
She had been a vegetarian since childhood, averse to killing, which was understandable. Lin Wanrong chuckled, releasing the white fish back into the water, teasing, "Little one, dare to peep at my wife bathing again, and you shall not be spared!"
Ning Yuxi playfully spat at him, laughing merrily, causing a few pristine waves to crash towards his cheeks.
Lin Wanrong sighed contentedly, smiling, "No wonder there is always a fragrant aura about you, Sister. It must be the good karma you've cultivated! But now I'm curious, if you're such a kind soul, why did you think of killing me when we first met in the Birch Forest?"
The memory of that perilous encounter brought a flush to the Fairy's cheeks, and she laughed softly, "I knew you would come to settle this score! Had it not been for your cunning that day, ruining Qingxuan's meditation, I wouldn't have bothered with you!"
"I wasn't being cunning, okay!" he protested, feeling wronged, "My love for Qingxuan was pure, even purer than tofu with green onions!"
Ning Yuxi took his hand tenderly, "Such purity in a person is rare in this world! I only regret not recognizing you, a pure-hearted thief, sooner."
Lin Wanrong's heart melted, and he hugged her voluptuous body tightly, planting fervent kisses on her bright red lips. The fairy gasped for breath, collapsing softly into his arms, her cheeks blushing as if they could wring out water.
"Stop fooling around. I, I have something serious to ask you!" Ning Yuxi's heart raced, she quickly restrained his wandering hand, knowing her husband all too well. With his absurdity, he might very well do something shameful right here in the spring!
Lin Wanrong blinked, puzzled, "Serious matter? Am I not attending to it right now?"
Indecent! The Fairy blushed even more, spat out, and said with infinite tenderness in her eyes, "You've been in good spirits these days. The mountain is desolate and quiet, without any excitement. Yet, you seem content to stay?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" Lin Wanrong whispered in her ear, "Anywhere with you is a place I love!"
Ning Yuxi's face flushed with a hint of red, her heart brimming with joy. "You always have sweet words to coax me! You've been up the mountain for four days without a word to the family. Weren't you worried they'd be anxious?"
Lin Wanrong replied with a teasing smile, "No worries, no worries at all, everything was prepared!"
The Fairy was taken aback, suddenly her face filled with bashful shyness. She hurriedly asked, "You mean... they all know?"
Lin Wanrong affirmed confidently, "Nothing is unspeakable! Since we are now husband and wife, should we fear the knowledge of the world? Besides, Qingxuan has known about my trip to the mountain for a long time. She even urged me to come to you sooner!"
Ning Yuxi covered her burning cheeks, trembling slightly, "I am so embarrassed!"
Lin Wanrong, with eyes wide and a smile, said, "What's there to be shy about? A husband visiting his wife is right and proper. Who would dare to gossip?"
"That's not it! Since Qingxuan knows everything, then she knows about our intimacy here—doesn't she?" The Fairy couldn't even lift her head, pounding his chest in frustration, "It's all your fault, you dreadful thief, leaving me with no face to see anyone!"
"So, you were hoping Qingxuan was oblivious to our doings on the mountain?" Lin Wanrong laughed heartily, thinking to himself, 'Women are naturally so self-deceptive.'
"Don't laugh!" The Fairy covered his mouth, her face as red as the dawn, pushing him urgently, "Go down the mountain, quickly!"
"Go down the mountain?" Lin Wanrong's face turned woeful. "Sister, we've only been married four days, and you're already casting me out?"
Seeing his pitiful look, Ning Yuxi's heart softened, and she shyly lowered her head, "Fool, you are my husband. Only you can send me away, not the reverse. Let them laugh. If I have done it, I fear no one's words! But monopolizing you on this mountain and arousing their resentment would be my great sin."
Lin Wanrong, deeply moved, grasped her hand tightly, trying to appear older and wiser, "But Sister, I think of you daily, and it pains my heart. What should I do about that?"
Her cheeks burned at his sweet nothings, a mix of shyness and joy, "There you go again, flattering. I barely believe you! Tell me, when will you meet with Junior Sister An?"
Lin Wanrong sighed, "I will go after ensuring you are well settled! The journey to the Miao village is long, and I have no news about how Sister An is faring. And with Little Sister alone on the grassland, still poisoned by the needle, how can I be at ease?"
Hearing his sigh, Ning Yuxi felt a twinge of sorrow and pinched him hard at the waist, "That's for leaving your heart everywhere! Now see how you deal with this!"
Lin Wanrong hung his head helplessly, feeling somewhat indignant inside. Between the Miao village and the grasslands, always on edge, which man has had a harder fate than him?
Suddenly, he looked up, excited, grasping the fairy's hand, "Sister, come with me! The Miao village is so far, and I'm scared to go alone!"
With his boldness, what could he possibly fear? Ning Yuxi knew he couldn't bear to leave her, feeling a warm yet sour tug in her heart, "The Miao village is Junior Sister An's territory. With her to protect you, what need have I to go? To invite her scorn?"
The Fairy's jealousy over the vixen An was perfectly justified. If she actually went, old grudges and new resentments would surge to the surface upon the encounter with her rival and sister-disciple. Lin Wanrong pondered the potential chaos, then wisely withdrew his head with a tongue stuck out. This risk was indeed not worth taking!
"As you head to the Miao village, be careful," the Fairy cautioned him while tidying his clothes, speaking gently, "Their customs are quite different from ours. The men are robust, the women passionate. If you give in to your impulses and flirt around, hmph, no one else will need to deal with you; Junior Sister An will chop you into pieces herself! You know full well what she's capable of!"
Lin Wanrong's eyes bulged, and his mouth opened wide in shock, his body quivering with fear!
Seeing his fear of An Biru reach such a state, Ning Yuxi found it both amusing and exasperating. She huffed, "The hardest person to deal with in the Miao village is your Sister An! Her words are half-true, half-false; listening to her is wrong, but not listening is even worse. You must be very careful. If you fall for Junior Sister An's pride and tricks and her people look down on you, that's when the trouble starts!"
What trouble could there be? The thought of the Vixen An's tactics sent a chill down his spine!
The fairy meticulously instructed him, then, fearing he wouldn't remember, she wrote it all down on silk and stuffed it into his bosom. Lin Wanrong nodded and held her hand tightly, reluctant to part, "Fairy Sister, are you really not coming with me? Without you, I might fall ill from longing before even reaching the Miao village!"
Ning Yuxi shook her head softly, "My going would be of no help, only causing Junior Sister An to resent me. Take more people with you, take good care of yourself on the road. Go quickly and return quickly. I will wait for you here."
Lin Wanrong nodded silently, sighing with resignation. They passed over the peak, and Li Xiangjun was no longer in the room, presumably gone to the school.
"I'm leaving now!" He tugged at the Fairy's hand, gazing at her reluctantly before slowly walking away.
The Fairy hummed softly, watching his retreating figure silently. As his steps grew distant, she called out tenderly, "Thief—"
Lin Wanrong turned his head, only to see the Fairy running towards him, tears glistening in her eyes, her dress trailing like a homeward-bound swallow, hurling herself into his arms.
His heart ached as he held her trembling body tight, burying his head in her hair, murmuring, "Sister, you really will miss me to death!"
The Fairy looked up at him with tears shining in her eyes, gazing deeply, shaking her head, "I don't know why, but last time when I saw you off the mountain, I was sad but could bear it. Today, I just can't. Your leaving seems to tear out my heart. Thief, what's come over me?"
Lin Wanrong felt warmth in his heart, kissed her gently on the ear, and whispered, "Because we are now husband and wife, bound by blood! Sister, wait for me on the mountain, I will return early!"
Ning Yuxi hummed softly, wrapping herself around him, unwilling to let go, her tears flowing silently like a spring.
"Oh right, I forgot to tell you something!" Lin Wanrong suddenly blinked and grinned at her.
The Fairy raised her tear-stained face gently, "What is it?"
Lin Wanrong leaned in, whispering mysteriously by her ear, "Sister, let's have a child too!"
"Ahh!" Ning Yuxi's face turned red to the tips of her ears, and she hurriedly pushed him away, too embarrassed to even lift her head. Lin Wanrong, however, opened his eyes wide in shock, exclaiming, "You don't want to?"
"Nonsense!" Fairy Ning scoffed softly, glaring at him before bashfully lowering her head again, her face as rosy as the dawn, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible: "To have children, you, you'll need to come more often! I, I'll wait for you—"
Lin Wanrong was so delighted he could hardly keep his grin in check: "Come, of course, I'll come! We're husband and wife now, don't you know my means? I wish I could come all the time, every moment, seventeen or eighteen times a day would not be a problem!"
You lecherous thief! Ning Yuxi, her face flushed, let out a light chuckle, finding that his trickery had lightened the sorrow of parting by a great deal. With this thief, she was never short of joy!
Descending the mountain amidst the Fairy's tearful gaze, Lin Wanrong hummed an old folk tune with carefree ease, feeling immensely satisfied. As he approached his home, he heard the cries of his two sons, wailing as if in competition, each louder than the other.
Who has upset my sons?! You dare to touch a tiger's behind? He bellowed, rushing into the house.
Inside, amidst the crying and commotion, he could hear Ning'er's laughter: "Our Xuan'er truly is his father's son—eh, Big Brother, you're back?!"
Luo Ning greeted him with a smile, and Lin Wanrong chuckled, "Xuan'er, what's wrong with Xuan'er?!"
Qiaoqiao, standing beside him, pulled at his clothes and stealthily pointed towards the wet nurse in the room: "Big Brother, look!"
Little Lin Xuan lay snugly against the wet nurse's chest, sucking greedily with puffed cheeks, the pretty wet nurse sweating with the pain. Yet Lin Xuan was the epitome of a charmer who took advantage and still looked innocent, suckling contentedly for a while before bursting into loud cries, then continuing to feed. Zhao Zheng seemed envious of his brother, lying in another wet nurse's arms and glaring at Lin Xuan, crying furiously.
Ning'er snickered and gave him a thumbs-up, teasingly saying, "Big Brother, our Xuan'er is just as naughty as you!"
Lin Wanrong turned his head away and sighed to the heavens: ‘The gods have witnessed! My son, he's much naughtier than his old man!’
He couldn't help but chuckle, sneaking into Qingxuan's room, only to find Qingxuan lounging lazily on the bed, smiling lightly at him: "My Dear—"
For some reason, the image of the Fairy suddenly surfaced in his heart, and he felt as light as a feather, rushing forward to embrace her delicate, boneless figure with a mischievous smile: "Wife, I've missed you so much these days! With Zheng'er and Xuan'er away, today should be my turn, right?!"
Qingxuan's body softened, her face blushing, she chided him playfully with a look of mock annoyance, "As a father, aren't you afraid of setting a bad example for your sons?!"
Who knows who will teach whom in the future! He laughed heartily, holding Qingxuan in his arms with indescribable tenderness.
"Looks like you've managed to take advantage this time!" Just from his demeanor, she knew what had transpired on the mountain. Qingxuan lay powerless in his embrace, sighing with resignation...
