First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 1914 - A Heart Like an Eternal, Unshakable Boulder
Chapter 1914 - A Heart Like an Eternal, Unshakable Boulder
This too was a treasure fragment. It was black throughout and about the size of an infant’s fist.
It was similar to the fragment that hid the tall, armored man’s divine wraith, and it emanated a highly distinctive, divine aura. One that seemed... inextinguishable.
Back in the Human Realm, Su Yi acquired a portion of Undying Power from A’Cai, thus gleaning insight into the mysteries of this power of the Grand Dao. He could tell at a glance that the power within this treasure fragment was extremely similar to A’Cai’s Undying Power, but it was even more startling, and even more mysterious.
Could this be Undying Demon Gold? Su Yi wondered. He wasn’t sure just what kind of divine material Undying Demon Gold was, nor did he know what it was good for. He was, however, certain that it was no ordinary treasure.
There were two reasons for his certainty.
First, Divine Son Feng Wuji had descended into the Immortal Realm, and he was most likely investigating the secrets of the prior epoch because he wanted to gather treasures like Undying Demon Gold. This was proof enough that Undying Demon Gold was extraordinary.
Second, the treasure fragment containing Undying Demon Gold had been left by a divine wraith, and divine wraiths were remnants of the prior epoch’s gods. When the Epoch Tribulation destroyed the prior epoch, it destroyed its gods, too. However, the treasure fragments containing Undying Demon Gold survived!
This was a divine material that could survive even an Epoch Tribulation, and it had survived to the present day. That was simply unbelievable.
This successfully piqued Su Yi’s interest.
First, I’ve got to find a place to treat my wounds. Then, I’ve got to do my best to clean up these divine wraiths and prepare to break into the Great Unity Stage.
Su Yi put the two treasure fragments away, then turned and left the area.
Hunting divine wraiths could temper his cultivation base, and he could even gather treasure fragments containing Undying Demon Gold in the process. Two birds, one stone.
......
A day later, Su Yi awakened from his meditation. His wounds had already knit back together, and his essence, qi, and spirit had been tempered closer to perfection. They even showed signs of an imminent breakthrough!
Without any further delays, Su Yi set off, venturing further into the Cave of Divine Tears. Along the way, he was occasionally beset by gray lightning, but this was no threat to Su Yi.
“Hm?” After advancing for about four hours, Su Yi suddenly looked up.
Countless meteorites, the corpses of long-dead stars, hovered beneath the shattered dome of heaven, completely still and silent. A hint of gold flickered on one of the meteorites, coming in and out of view.
When Su Yi examined it with his divine sense, he saw that the gold originated from burnt, blackened bone covered in cracks!

The bone was only about the size of a fist. Dazzling golden light flickered inside it, shining through the numerous fine cracks on its surface.
Don’t tell me a god of the prior epoch refined Undying Demon Gold into his skeleton? Su Yi was stunned, but before he could wrap his head around it, the bone erupted with black fog, and a hundred-thousand-foot figure appeared before him.
His eyes were like twin suns, and his body was like a pillar towering into the heavens. Turbulent death qi poured down around him. He was like a demon god straight out of a legend!
The giant threw back his head and roared, shattering the countless meteorites hovering throughout the surrounding skies.
It was a terrifying scene, as if heaven and earth were collapsing around him.
Just as I thought. It’s another divine wraith! Su Yi wasn’t scared or startled. On the contrary, he was delighted. His will to fight instantly caught ablaze.
Whoosh!
This time, he took the initiative. He shot through the air and attacked explosively.
......
An hour later, Su Yi flopped onto the ground. His flesh was in tatters, and almost his entire skeleton had cracked. His wounds were far worse than before.
This divine wraith had been far more terrifying than either the armored warrior or the Daoist!
In the end, Su Yi still had to rely on the Sword of the Nine Hells to kill his opponent.
The burnt, cracked bone had become Su Yi’s latest trophy. Just as he expected, it contained Undying Demon Gold!
As Su Yi meditated and treated his wounds, he pondered.
Almost there! Just a little more, and I’ll be able to break into the Great Unity Stage! I just wonder if the gods will be startled into action this time, too. I bet they’re already lying in wait...
......
Time slipped by. Soon, almost two months had passed since Su Yi entered the Cave of Divine Tears.
He’d fought seven blood-soaked battles during that time, slaying eight divine wraiths and gathering eight treasure fragments containing Undying Demon Gold.
Most were pieces of broken weapons, but some were remnants of bone.
His harvest was enormous.
Su Yi had ventured deep into the Cave of Divine Tears. The remnant aura of an Epoch Tribulation hung over the area. Gray lightning flashed beneath the dome of heaven, coming in and out of view. It was denser here, so even a moment’s incaution was risky.
Boom!
Heaven and earth swayed as Su Yi fought another divine wraith.
She was a stunning beauty, and she was extremely powerful, too. She was terrifying almost beyond imagination. This was the strongest divine wraith Su Yi had faced yet; none of the others were comparable.
When Su Yi arrived in this stretch of land three days prior, he saw a broken ring. This terrifying divine wraith was hidden inside.
There’d been no avoiding a fierce, brutal battle, but their first bout lasted less than ten minutes before Su Yi suffered a crushing defeat. He’d had no choice but to retreat. When his wounds healed, he returned, but he was still no match for the beautiful divine wraith. She trounced him and sent him packing once more.
This was already their third battle.
It was different from their prior battles. It was still incomparably dangerous, but this time, Su Yi’s essence, qi, and spirit had been tempered to perfection. Despite his grievous injuries, he fought with every greater valiance!
Just one step further, and this time, I’ll be able to break through. I’m sure of it!
As the battle raged on, Su Yi could clearly sense the signs of an impending breakthrough growing clearer and stronger. Just a little more, and he’d cross the threshold of the Great Unity Stage!
There was no denying it. He’d suffered a lot over the past few months in his pursuit of this next breakthrough. All this time, his breakthrough was at arm’s reach, but he couldn’t reach it. Not even fighting the divine wraiths was enough to give him that final push.
Every time he defeated a divine wraith, he acquired a treasure containing Undying Demon Gold, but even so, Su Yi couldn’t help but feel indignant over his inability to break through.
Now, finally, in this third bout against this mighty divine wraith, he sensed the signs of an impending breakthrough. The sensation was so strong. He could see it clearly!
Thus, despite his wounds piling on to the point that he knew he wouldn’t last much longer, he gnashed his teeth and fought on. He gave it everything he had.
But in the end... Su Yi still lost. He couldn’t break through, either.
He even came precariously close to dying at the powerful woman’s hands!
At a critical juncture, he had to rely on the Sword of the Nine Hells to escape, looking utterly wretched.
Thud!
The grievously wounded Su Yi toppled over, lying amidst the desolate landscape, his chest heaving as he gasped for breath.
His flesh had been ripped to shreds, and almost every bone in his body had snapped or shattered. Even his soul was in an extremely weakened state. He was so wretched that it hurt to even look at him.
But this was nothing compared to the frustration in his heart. It wasn’t even that he was that desperate to break through, but that every time he sensed an impending breakthrough, it slipped through his fingers.
That was the worst part. It was sheer torment!
“I told you that there was no way to break through in this forsaken place. Why didn’t you believe me? Why suffer like this?” The Book of Karma floated into the air, its writing tinged with heartbreak.
The Divine Replenishment Furnace poured out medicine and treated Su Yi’s wounds. It tentatively chimed in, “Your Excellency, we’re almost out of recovery medicine and cultivation resources...”
Su Yi lay there, gazing into the ruined, withered sky in silence.
Since proving his Dao and becoming an Immortal King, even during his Great Martial Grand Tribulation, he’d encountered numerous perils, but no true struggles or adversity.
It was to the point that when his repeated attempts to break into the Great Unity Stage ended in failure, Su Yi almost suspected he was in too much of a hurry. Perhaps he’d descended into obsession, and he was pushing too hard for an opportunity that couldn’t be forced.
“I dare say with certainty that if you leave this forsaken ground, you’ll prove your Dao with ease,” the Book of Karma said comfortingly.
Su Yi disregarded it. He understood what the Book of Karma was trying to say.
Earlier, he’d analyzed the situation with the Book of Karma, and they’d come up with a hypothesis regarding his inability to break through.
There were two major barriers.
First and foremost, the Cave of Divine Tears was a ruin of the prior epoch. It was not of the present epoch, and the Laws of the Immortal Realm’s natural order were nowhere to be found. How could Su Yi possibly find an opportunity to break through here?
Secondly, the aura of an Epoch Tribulation lingered here!
It seemed highly likely that the current era’s tribulations targeting Immortals trying to break through conflicted with the lingering aura of the Epoch Tribulation. Su Yi’s tribulation simply couldn’t appear here!
This was mere conjecture on their part. After all, neither Su Yi nor the Book of Karma understood the mysteries of the former epoch or the Epoch Tribulation that destroyed it. Neither could come up with any solid answers.
Su Yi admitted that this was, perhaps, why he’d been unable to break through despite repeated attempts.
But he refused to accept it!
He’d always sought a path of cultivation different from the rest. The gods condemned him as a heretic, and every time he broke through, he faced extraordinarily strange and calamitous tribulations. If not for the Sword of the Nine Hells, he could never have survived them!
Now, there were obstacles impeding his imminent breakthrough, but he never even considered retreating or trying again later. He was completely fixated on just one thing: crushing the obstacle in his path!
After a moment’s silence, Su Yi whispered, “I’m going to try again.”
It was just a few simple words spoken calmly, yet with unshakable determination. He wouldn’t let up until he’d reached his goal.
The Book of Karma fell silent.
The Divine Replenishment Furnace felt shaken. For some reason, it couldn’t help but admire Su Yi.
A day later, Su Yi’s wounds had fully knit back together. He immediately set off to fight the beautiful divine wraith once more. Victory, defeat, success, failure, life, and death... He cast all such thoughts to the back of his mind and poured the full extent of his essence, qi, and spirit into the battle.
He sought a breakthrough amidst fierce combat! His goal was to sever the obstacles in his path!
It didn’t matter how severe his injuries were. In that moment, even life and death were trivial.
Combat!
Combat!
Combat!!
His heart was as unwavering as a boulder. His Dao was the sword cutting through every obstacle in its path!
He wasn’t sure when, but leaden tribulation clouds had slowly started to gather beneath the shattered clouds, and they were gradually condensing.
