Chapter 181: Chapter 181: The White Lotus or the Pretend White Lotus (3)

"Are you guys stupid? We don’t even have a key to An Mingyuan’s place. If we go at night and he doesn’t open the door, we can’t get in. Besides, this is still uncertain. We are not going to catch him in the act, but to find out the truth. So you two need to keep your eyes open and see if An Mingyuan is really flirting with that woman!" Mi Jing said, looking at Li Bao’er and Bai Lulu through the rearview mirror to observe their expressions.

"They’re already living together. Do we really need to look anymore? I think An Mingyuan is having his cake and eating it too, keeping both Ruanruan and this new girl at the same time to enjoy the best of both worlds," Li Bao’er said.

"Sigh, it’s still too early to say anything now. Let’s see what happens first," Mi Jing sighed, still hoping that An Mingyuan had some conscience left and wouldn’t do anything to betray Ruanruan.

The rented place near downtown was only a twenty-minute drive. After the car stopped, Mi Jing and her friends stayed inside the car for a while, none of them getting out immediately.

"What if An Mingyuan isn’t at home?" Bai Lulu poked her head slightly out of the car window, looked up, and then turned to ask Mi Jing.

"We’ll just have to take our chances." Mi Jing was already prepared for a fruitless trip. She took out her phone, found An Mingyuan’s number, and pressed dial.

Beep... beep... beep...

The car was very quiet. Li Bao’er and Bai Lulu watched Mi Jing. Facing them, Mi Jing kept most of her attention on the phone, listening to the beeping sound nervously, unsure exactly why she felt this way.

"Hello, Jing, why did you suddenly think of calling me?" After a moment, the call connected, and An Mingyuan’s eager voice came through.

"Well, it’s been a while since we saw you, so we wanted to catch up. Are you free now?" Mi Jing exchanged looks and signals with Li Bao’er and Bai Lulu as she spoke.

"Yeah, I’m free! Where do you want to meet?" An Mingyuan agreed readily.

"Ahem, what if I said that Lulu, Bao’er, and I are right downstairs at your place? Would you be surprised or shocked?" Mi Jing clutched her phone tightly, a bit anxious as she awaited An Mingyuan’s response.

"...You’re kidding, right?" An Mingyuan, seemingly startled, hesitated for a couple of seconds before replying in a tentative tone.

"I’m not kidding. It’s almost New Year, and Lulu got promoted, so we wanted to celebrate with you to avoid Ruanruan complaining that we’ve been neglecting you," Mi Jing said, quickly changing the subject, "Are you at home?"

"Mingyuan, I’m ready. Let’s go!"

Just as Mi Jing finished speaking, a calm female voice came through the phone, causing Mi Jing to narrow her eyes, "Did you have plans with someone? Should we come another day?"

Of course, Mi Jing had no intention of not disturbing An Mingyuan and that woman; she wanted to test An Mingyuan’s attitude.

"You’re already here, so come up. I was just planning to go to the supermarket with my roommate to buy groceries, nothing else." An Mingyuan’s response was surprisingly calm, and his tone was fluent, as if he had nothing to hide.

But to Mi Jing, his words had a ring of irony.

Nothing else?

Ha, if there was something else, that would be something!

With a silent snort, Mi Jing remained composed, "Alright, we’ll come up now. You don’t need to prepare anything. We brought food and drinks; just open the door for us."

When she said "you," Mi Jing felt uncomfortable but didn’t let her emotions show. She thought, once they went up, they would see whether that woman was a pure white lotus or a fake one, so she stayed calm.

After hanging up, Mi Jing opened the trunk, and Bai Lulu and Li Bao’er got out to take the things while Mi Jing followed them upstairs.

"Which floor?" Only Mi Jing had been there before. Bai Lulu and Li Bao’er, unfamiliar with the place, turned back to ask her.

"Fourth floor." Mi Jing took the things from Bai Lulu’s hand, and the three of them, each carrying a bag, continued to climb the stairs.

"Jing, isn’t this too generous? Buying so much good food, isn’t it a waste on them?" Li Bao’er complained while looking through the bags.

"Then make sure you eat a lot later. Try not to let them benefit if you can," Mi Jing replied.

"Of course! If we can’t finish it, we’ll pack it up and take it back," Li Bao’er said.

This...

"I’ll leave that to you." Bringing things and then taking them back was something Mi Jing wouldn’t do, no matter how thick-skinned she was.

"Sure, in front of them, I won’t care about pride today," Li Bao’er willingly accepted the task of packing up the leftovers.

As they climbed to the second floor, they stopped discussing An Mingyuan and changed the subject until they reached the fourth floor, where An Mingyuan was waiting at the door.

"Are the things heavy?" An Mingyuan asked, smiling at Mi Jing, extending his hand to help.

"Not heavy, I can handle it." Mi Jing subtly turned away to avoid his hand and smiled.

"Come inside and sit," An Mingyuan invited them warmly.

Upon hearing that, Mi Jing didn’t exchange more pleasantries, stepping into the house and noticing a woman in the living room, seemingly pure and pleasant-looking, but not overly beautiful. However, she gave off a very white lotus vibe.

"Hello, I’m Mingyuan’s roommate, Mo Tingting." Mo Tingting stood up from the sofa, flashed a sweet smile, and showed her pearly white teeth to greet them.

"Hello, we are An Mingyuan’s college friends, and Ruanruan’s good friends. You’ve met Ruanruan, right?" Li Bao’er smiled innocently, looking cute and friendly, though anyone who knew her was aware this was a facade.

"Yes, I have! Sister Ruanruan is beautiful and elegant. Mingyuan told me that many boys liked her during school," Mo Tingting smiled and spoke earnestly, but her words made Mi Jing and the others uncomfortable.

Sister?

Who’s your relative? Besides, she isn’t much older than you. Why do you call her "sister" and keep calling An Mingyuan’s name in such a familiar way? It just sounds grating!
